3 Sutherland to Cronulla bike path update Over the past few months the community has provided feedback on the proposed route for the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL) (shared pedestrian/bike path). The SCATL route would extend 10.6 kilometres and connect Sutherland, Kirrawee, Gymea, Miranda, Caringbah, Woolooware and Cronulla train stations. Approximately 3.1 kilometres of the route would be within the rail corridor. A detailed description of the proposed route and design is contained in the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link Review of Environmental Factors document, which has been made available for comment at An expert team of engineers, planners and designers has been developing the details of the proposed route that will best connect cyclists and pedestrians with shops, schools, public transport and the beach. Wharf upgrades The restoration work by Sutherland Shire Council at Hospital Bay Wharf in Cronulla and Lilli Pilli Wharf in Lilli Pilli is now complete, assisted with $114,000 NSW government funding under the Better Boating Program. Both wharves have been restored in a way that preserves the iconic, mid-twentieth century style of maritime infrastructure. The innovative design and construction work has ensured the community has access to safe and high quality facilities, while maintaining the beautiful character of these wharves. Lilli Pilli Wharf The NSW government has also contributed funding to upgrades at Bonna Point in Kurnell and Wally s Wharf and will contribute $250,000 to upgrading the Tonkin Street boat ramp in Gunnamatta Bay. CRONULLA UPDATE / FEBRUARY
4 $50k graffiti grant in Caringbah The NSW government has awarded funding of $50,000 to Sutherland Shire Council to transform graffiti-covered Park Lane Caringbah into a safe and attractive space. Graffiti costs over $100 million each year to clean up in NSW. That s money better spent on things that matter like schools, hospitals or roads. Anyone can report graffiti to the NSW Graffiti Removal hotline on Council also has a Report It app, which can be downloaded via itunes or Google Play. With (L-R) Miranda MP Eleni Petinos and Attorney General Gabrielle Upton $550k+ upgrades at Caringbah and Cronulla stations Over $550,000 worth of security and safety improvements have been completed at Caringbah and Cronulla stations. The improvements include new security fencing on the southern side of Caringbah station (320m) and the eastern side of Cronulla station (150m), tree trimming and Help Point improvements. The work is part of a $20 million program being delivered by Sydney Trains to improve safety and security at 43 stations around the network. Sutherland Shire recycling centre Sutherland Shire Council has received more than $223,000 from the NSW government to help build a new community recycling centre at a former council depot on Bates Drive, Kareela. This will enable the council to manage up to 85% of household problem wastes that are traditionally disposed of at chemical clean out days, including gas bottles, batteries, paint, oils, lamps containing mercury and smoke detectors. The grant is one of 10 Community Recycling Centre grants awarded to councils as part of the NSW government s $465.7 million Waste Less, Recycle More initiative. More information about Waste Less, Recycle More can be found at waste-less-recycle-more.htm 4 CRONULLA UPDATE / FEBRUARY 2016
