1 SmallBusiness success in Penrith Small business in Penrith is going from strength to strength with technological advances growing local jobs and gaining international attention. Recently two standout local small businesses have been recognised for their business operations that have invited accolades and interest from global entities. Industrial Engineering Technology Pty Ltd (IET) is a local Penrith company that is leading the way in the manufacturing of industrial ovens for the snack food industry, an industry that uses IET as a benchmark for quality. Founder, Mr Souhel Khanania designed a patented corn chip oven so technologically advanced he has cornered the world market. With a complement of approximately 30 staff, IET manufacture the ovens exclusively here in Penrith for export around the world. Local business software specialists, ACR Business Systems celebrate 30 years of operation in Penrith this year and were recently crowned the nation s Champion Small Business of the Decade. ACR has proven success in providing end-to-end system software to businesses in the wholesale, retail, manufacturing and telecommunications industries. Small businesses such as these are the backbone of the Penrith community, they play a vital role in providing employment and in sustaining our local economy. 2 Mulgoa road widening project UPDATES The Australian and NSW Governments are working together to progress the widening of the vital 6.5- kilometre corridor between the city of Penrith and the M4 Western Motorway to cut journey times and reduce congestion. The Mulgoa Road corridor upgrade is a vital piece of infrastructure we re determined to fast track to progress Stage 1, between Jeanette Street at Regentville and Blaikie Road at Jamisontown. For more information please visit MulgoaRoadCastlereaghRoad Penrith station upgrade The new-look and fully accessible Penrith Station is on track. In the coming months the new overhead concourse will be further improved with Denver Oak ceilings and glass panel windows. When completed, customers will benefit from a new station concourse, accessible toilets and an improved transport interchange. The NSW Government is also building a new multi-storey commuter car park which will provide customers with around 430 new spaces, as well as lifts, CCTV and lighting. Penrith s new super ambulance station on track The NSW Government s $150 million Sydney Ambulance Metropolitan Infrastructure Strategy project marks the most significant single investment in NSW Ambulance infrastructure in the organisation s history and is building capacity for the future. Located at High Street, the Penrith superstation is a major investment in local ambulance services, designed to support the delivery of enhanced mobile emergency care to patients in the Penrith community and surrounding areas. Construction work is on track to be completed by late The new facility will include: parking for 22 ambulance vehicles administration, office areas and amenities on site staff parking a logistics and storage area an external wash bay (02) Shop 23 Ground Floor Tattersalls Centre, High Street, Penrith NSW 2750
3 Nepean hospital upgrade The massive $576 million redevelopment of Nepean Hospital will include: a new clinical services block, new and expanded emergency department and a short stay unit, upgraded medical imaging, at least 12 operating theatres, new helipad, 18 birthing suites (an increase of 10), more than 200 overnight beds in new accommodation, a new neonatal intensive care unit, integrated community health services and a new 650 spot carpark. Planning and consultation continues to ensure we deliver world class facilities for our community. Northern Road and M4 Bridge The Australian and NSW Government s $3.6 billion road investment program, The Western Sydney Infrastructure Program (WSIP) includes The Northern Road upgrade. The Northern Road/M4 Motorway Bridge upgrade will offer huge benefits for our community. The upgrade includes replacing the existing bridge over the M4 with a new wider bridge, realigning and widening the motorway entry and exit ramps to allow for future M4 Smart Motorway upgrades and replacing the two sets of existing traffic lights with one set. This upgrade will improve safety, increase road capacity and reduce congestion. Early works including surveying, site office set up and fencing is now underway with major construction expected to start in mid Further details can be found online at Nepean river pedestrian bridge Work continues on the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Nepean River to connect Penrith and Emu Plains. The new bridge will provide a safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists over the Nepean River and improve connections to existing and future shared paths, including the Great River Walk. Construction work began in 2016 and is expected to take about two years to complete, weather permitting. Construction is progressing and the following key activities have been completed: relocating overhead power and telecommunication lines, partially constructing the abutment on the eastern bank including piling and concrete works, constructing temporary rock platform and sheet piling on the western bank for pier construction and carrying out earth work on the western bank and along Punt Road. 4 making IT happen created more jobs NSW has the lowest unemployment of any state in Australia at 5.2 per cent. Since 2011, 300,300 jobs have been added in NSW, accounting for almost 37 per cent of new jobs across Australia in that time. Funding for Penrith schools Penrith public schools will benefit from a share of the record $219 million in additional needsbased funding in 2017, made possible by NSW signing the Gonski agreement. The NSW Government is delivering on its commitment to deliver additional school funding based on student need. better services We have increased the number of nurses, teachers and police. Between 2011 and early 2017 the number of nurses and midwives in the state has risen by 5300, there are 2150 more doctors, 1170 more police and 3800 more teachers in our schools. cheaper green slips Around $120 will be shaved off the average Green Slip for motorists in Penrith under the NSW Government s CTP reforms. The new scheme is expected to come into effect in December container deposit scheme NSW s container deposit scheme will be a world leading scheme. This is the biggest initiative to tackle litter in the state s history. A container deposit scheme is something the community has been asking for it is this government which is finally delivering it. Increasing housing supply Housing approvals and completions are at all-time highs. While we know we have more to do on tackling housing affordability, we have made massive progress on closing the housing gap left behind by Labor. $48 million for our paramedics We are investing an additional $48 million to provide an enhanced insurance scheme for NSW Ambulance Service paramedics.
