The group has made sgnfcan conrbuons owards resorng he mangrove ecosysem and preservng he bodversy of he reserve and surroundng areas, affecng a oal of 100 square klomeers. Ther success has seen he progressve reurn of hreaened jackal, mongoose, cve, gray duker, paas monkey and bushbuck. The Vllage of Andavadoaka Madagascar Economc and envronmenal facors n Madagascar s vllage of Andavadoaka were hreaenng he local ocopus populaon, pung a major sran on he vlage s radonal source of lvelhood. In 2004, PACINDHA, n parnershp wh he communy and local auhores, se ou o resore he plan populaon, whch had been endangered by overuse and bush fres. Communy proecon commees n 10 vllages have snce proeced and resored 200 hecares of degraded Dearum Mcrocarpum. Susanable harvess have provded ncome for women s cooperaves, chldren s school fees, agrculural ools and lvesock. Burkna Faso s rural women s assocaon, Songaab- Yalgré, has been workng o produce organc shea buer for expor nernaonally for 12 years. The assocaon now works wh 11 vllages and over 3,000 women, dsrbung ncome equally amongs members of he collecve. As a resul of hs nave, he ncome of 1140 rural women has rpled and nearly 20,000 shea nu rees are proeced and managed whou pescdes. The assocaon devoes a poron of s resources o HIV/AIDS educaon and leracy ranng for women and youh. Kpsana Crane and Weland Conservaon Group Kenya The Kpsana Crane and Welands Conservaon Group (KCWCG) formed n 1990 as a parnershp of local communes o conserve and resore he Sawa Swamp Naonal Park n Kenya. Through proecng and resorng weland areas, hs nave has ensured ha neghbourng communes have access o a relable and clean source of waer year round. As a resul of he conservaon group s efors, communy members are now engaged n new ypes of busness such as beekeepng, eco-oursm, and agro-foresry. These effors have resuled n a fvefold ncrease n he grey crowned crane populaon as well as ncreased ncome from honey, fsh, and produce sales. Aman Naure Reserve Tanzana The Aman Naure Reserve was founded n 1997 n he submonane fores ecosysem of he Eas Usambara Mounans. Communes resden n he reserve have worked wh park offcals o esablsh an ecooursm venure and encourage susanable fsh, buerfly, dary, and land farmng pracces whch have lead o subsanally hgher producon and ncome. Tranng on bo-nensve gardenng, sol eroson, and susanable foresry pracces has also spread hroughou he communes ha lve n he reserve. As sakeholders n he reserve s producve capacy, he communes earn a ffh of he revenue from he ecooursm venure and he Aman ecosysem remans sable and healhy.

Aharam Tradonal Crops Producers Company (TCPC) Inda Aharam TCPC s an agro-bodversy enerprse ha works wh margnal farmers and landless laborers o encourage he conservaon of radonal crop dversy n Tamlnadu, Inda. Aharam s acves nclude he collecon and culvaon of over 50 seed varees for 15 speces of radonal crops, he susanable collecon of 45 speces of medcnal herbs and he provson of ranng n organc farmng o local farmers. By faclang access o new markes and markeng locally-produced and colleced crops, Aharam has generaed ncreased ncome for 150 farmer, arsan and self-help groups. Ths nave has also conrbued o he response o he 2004 sunam by asssng survvors o produce hgh value goods and develop pracces o reduce vulnerably o fuure dsasers. PENAGMANNAK, a federaon of 17 communy organzaons, works o proec he M. Talns - Twn Lakes Bodversy Conservaon Area. Through a comprehensve se of conservaon naves, he local farmers are engaged n sol and waer managemen whle ohers communy members help monor and evaluae bodversy n he surroundng foress. The esablshmen of a communy-based wldlfe sancuary, home o housands of endemc flyng foxes, has been a noable success. A growng ecooursm ndusry has rased enough revenue o allow mos of he local chldren o aend school. Cener for Empowermen and Resource Developmen (CERD) Phllppnes In 1996, he Cener for Empowermen and Resource Developmen (CERD) enered no parnershp wh he local vllage leaders n Hnauan Bay o caalyze envronmenal conservaon and economc developmen. The nave has ncluded he creaon of seven fsh sancuares, resoraon of 117 hecares of mangroves, and successful lobbyng for reform of local fshng law. The Shdhula Swanrvar Sangsha reaches an esmaed 87,000 famles each year. Fre-relaed envronmenal degradaon and unsusanable harvesng pracces n he welands of he upper Sepk Rver n Papua New Gunea hreaened he crocodle populaon, a valuable resource o local communes. In response, he communes parnered wh he governmen, NGOs, and busnesses o fnd a soluon. SWMI esablshed gudelnes for he susanable harves of crocodle eggs, and oversees proecve measures for nesng crocodles and her haba. These acves have led o a reassurng rse n he crocodle populaon as revenue from he susanable harves of crocodle skns and eggs provdes valued ncome o he sakeholder communes. Crab Bay Communy Resource Managemen Inave Vanuau The Malekula Island communy launched he Crab Bay Communy Resource Managemen Inave n 2000 o hal he declne of he local marne ecosysem. Wh he closure of sx hundred hecares of fshng area and he provson of vllage-based educaon n susanable resource managemen, he nave has successfully replenshed he local land crab populaon. Wh over 90% of he communy nvolved n he projec, he number of crab burrows has ncreased eghfold and he number of Troch (seashells) has grown fvefold n only wo years. The revalzed local fshery supples he communy wh food and he sale of surpluses has led o ncreased ncome whch has gone largely owards chldren s school fees, and basc healh servces. Phu My Leprona Weland Conservaon Projec Venam The leprona grasses ha grow near Phu My Vllage are cusomarly woven no a varey of radonal handcrafs. These grasses comprse he las exensve remnan of leprona grassland ecosysem of he Mekong rver dela. To save he speces as well as he communy s mos valuable resource, he Phu My Leprona Weland Conservaon Projec was born. Vllagers have been enforcng a new model of leprona harvesng, such ha harvesng only he desrable grasses has replaced mass and ndscrmnan cung. Invasve weeds have also been argeed and eradcaed.
