2 Peter Cribb updated us all on the progress and direction of this project which arose from the container the club sent to Sri Lanka last year. This container contained not only materials and requisites for the Sputnik Girls Orphanage and school but a full set of playground equipment obtained from Geelong Council. Don t ask why, ask why not? Slides to Sri Lanka When we think of the number of hospital beds we have sent overseas, which otherwise would have been scrapped, the same applies to playgrounds. Of the 80 municipalities in Victoria, the majority would relace several playgrounds annually. We have a link to the playground manufacturers for the type we need metal not wood due to the climate in Sri Lanka. We are calling this project SISL Based on the work already completed and with the legal and logistical details now sorted, Peter has been spruiking the project and message far and wide. At the recent Municipal Association of Victoria Parks & Gardens Conference he was able to reach representatives from councils across Victoria. He also has the support of Past District Governor Neville Joh for the project. Peter visited Sri Lanka and met with the Rotary Cub of Colombo last year. He has now established a link to the Sri Lankan army who have agreed to transport and install playgrounds which we send. Playgrounds are very rare in Sri Lanka, and with what councils would normally pay to have a playground dismantled and scrapped, they could save money by us taking it off their hands. The playground we sent to Kurunegala has become the playground for the whole wider community, an area the size of Geelong. When the container is fitted out, it will be the community library and toy library. A fabulous outcome for this large community.

3 Flem-Ken Festival of Arts and Ideas Today we heard from Anne McMahon as she updated s all on progress for this amazing new venture for our club. For those who may have forgotten, this concept arose from the Community Connects Forum we held in October last year at Kensington Town Hall. With a strong and rich arts culture in Flemington and Kensington, an Art Show was first suggested but has grown into an Arts Festival encompassing not only visual art but dance, drama, music and performance. Anne showed us the map locating elements and activities across the geographical area some events already locked into place and others awaiting an announcement re the funding applications she has made to both Moonee Valley and Melbourne Councils. These grant announcement are not until early June but work and planning continues to take place. A small but dedicated team of local artists, community members and interested residents meets regularly with small sub groups working on specific ideas. Anne has held many, many meetings with schools, local groups and community members. Confirmed events include the Gala Opening to be held at Kensington Town Hall on Thursday October 11th which will also include an Art Auction, Silent Auction and formal opening of the show. SAVE THE DATE!! Based on the grants funding, a celebration f funding will be held on June 20th with drinks and nibbles. James Fitzgerald from Younghusband has offered their Demo Suite for meetings and has been very supportive. Anne and Allan are seeking sponsors currently and we are keen to get the traders from both Flemington and Kensington on board. Hoping to obtain an empty shop in Racecourse Rd to use as an admin and ticket sales venue during the festival. Fabiola Pantea has been working with Anne on marketing, and Paul Perrottet will create website and Facebook pages to link to our website and be shown on all promotional materials. A Poster Project will launch in June with posters being displayed in shop windows which will hopefully increase street traffic with an Art in the windows exhibition. Additional admin and support staff have been organized through the Brotherhood of St Laurence Job Ready program to help with wait staff and admin during the festival. All members will be asked to commit time to a specific task once the funding is confirmed. Partnerships have already been confirmed with the Flemington Association, Kensington Community Children's Co-op, Christ Church, Flemington Community Centre, Kensington Neighborhood House, Mount Alexander College, Flemington Theatre Company, Farnham Street Learning Centre, North-West Mental Health at Travancore. Flemington Traders, Nelson Alexander and Younghusband Group are also committed.

6 Guest Speaker James Fitzgerald JAMES FITZGERALD is the Property Development Manager at Impact Investment Group which is managing the development at the Younghusband site in Elizabeth Street, Kensington. James background is engineering and he has previously worked on the Regional Rail Link and also for Engineers without borders. He runs a volunteer group Around Australia with Engineers. James said that what he gets about Rotary is community and connection. Impact investment group was founded by a group of people who wanted to work on environmentally and socially ethical investment ideas. They are based on the Small Grants idea backed by the Lieberman family. There are a pool of people who want to have their money invested in ethical investments. IIG also has the dream factory in Footscray, a socially conscious coworking space for startups, freelancers, creatives, social impact and emerging technologies. IIG are also the biggest private owner of solar farms in Australia, with Ross Garnaut the chair of our solar board. The Younghusband Wool, store: James heads up the urban renewal section. Younghusband is the second investment of this type. It is a 100 year old woolstore with five building, purchased in 2015 and with strong community consultation at every step. The architect they have previously worked on MONA in Tasmania with Fender Katsalidis and will now work on Younghusband site. IIG shared all aspects of the Master plan with community for consultation, and staging plan. The plan has been endorsed by the Kensington Association,. Stage one is the 3 storey red brick building Stage two is next to flour mill, and is possibly an 8 storey commercial site. Stage three is the rest of site There is no residential space included, all commercial industrial mixes A public park will be installed on the corner of Elizabeth and Chelmsford Streets. Plans are also in place for some Early Childhood, educational and commercial artisan spaces by This project is about a $200 million investment The man building is currently 74% occupied but doesn t feel fully occupied. IIG are committed to keeping their tenants and will relocate while works happening. About 25% will stay. About 49% of space will be Commercial office and just signed a new group for the top Floor. Solar panels will be installed through with about 440 megawatts in total, aiming for 6 Star rating. Comprehensive traffic and parking study done, stage one impact assessment completed also for road closure reports. All streets remain as is, some parking. Access to 3 stations and a bus. Stage three win include the park and underground parking and deliveries. The Project is all leasehold with a full time Vern onsite,.

Anne McMahon requested items for the Silent Auction at the Gala Opening and Art items for the Art Auction. Allan Bruno reported on the Bunnings BBQ and advised that our next commitment is for the Flemington Library s 50th Anniversary on Saturday May 26th in the carpark behind the Library. BBQ will run pm and all members will be needed as we are operating 3 separate BBQs for Halal and vegetarian options as well as the usual. Lesley McCarthy reported that she had delivered another 300 books to Wingate Avenue and Hopetoun Maternal & Child Health Centres for the 1,000 Stories Project. Sam then reminded everyone of District Assembly on May 20th, District Changeover on June 3rd and the club changeover on June 29th. Celebration Days for this week are: Wednesday May 9th Free trade Saturday, Fair Trade day and Lost sock day.
