3 Objectives To create a new and demonstrably Australian event that: Raises Australia s business profile More effectively attracts and promotes sponsors in a new and creative manner Facilitates the interaction of business and government people Attracts and encourages Australian Alumni (Vietnamese with Australian qualifications), through the cultural hook of an iconic Australian event, to become more engaged with the Australian business chamber Lays the foundations for an annual event, if deemed appropriate 3

4 The Foyer Guests were greeted with a: Huge back drop of Ben Thanh market, a life sized horse ( Makaybe Diva, the three times winner of the Melbourne Cup) Creative replica of Flemington Racecourse s finish post which was actually modelled off the gates of the Saigon Zoo; and Ticket box emblazoned with sponsors logos Birdcage (corporate marquee) entrance 4

5 The guests arrive for A Day at the Races - Pt 1 The guests included: 7 Consuls General (Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Canada, Malaysia and the Netherlands) Senior executives of organisations such as AusCham s Platinum Sponsor, ANZ (see below left) 5

6 The guests arrive - for A Day at the Races Pt 2 The violinists played while guests mingled. The entrance to the Ballroom resembled a marquee. At the Melbourne Cup, the corporate marquees, referred to as the Birdcage, is where the Who s Who of business, entertainment and politics gather. 6

8 190 engaged guests attended the Tabcorp Saigon Cup in its first year 8

9 Sponsors logos beamed brightly from the giant LED screen behind AusCham s President and the MCs. 9

10 Welcome from the Melbourne Cup s Official Broadcaster Greg Miles is the Official Broadcaster for the Melbourne Cup This year, 2014, Greg called the Melbourne Cup for the 34 th time This year, Greg recorded a special video message for the Tabcorp Saigon Cup (see below right) in which he welcomed guests and congratulated AusCham Soul Corporation sponsored the opening live performance 10

11 The Professional Fashion Show The professional fashion show by Kan Kanemura, with models from CA3, blended cultures and eras Unlike Vietnam (with the exception of the conical hat), hats are a Melbourne Cup and western tradition Mr Kanemura s unique hats were worn together with a modern interpretation of the Vietnamese ao dai Traditional Vietnamese music was adapted with a modern flavour 11

12 The Ladies Fashion Show The guests jumped out of their seats cheering and mixing! Sponsors prizes were very well received. 12

13 The Men s Fashion Show The Men s Fashion Show and the Best Dressed Table also had guests out of their seats offering plenty of comments and applause! Sponsors prizes very well received. 13

14 Let the Races begin A form guide (circled, far left and promoted in advance on the exclusive Tabcorp Saigon Cup website) promoted sponsors and had full details of the races The 5 Races were named after sponsors: eg, The Park Hyatt Cup, The Salinda Premium, The Banyan Tree Lang Co Race, The Nam Hai Nights and The Six Senses Triple Punters pledged donations 14

15 Place your Pledges Pledges / donations were then lodged with AusCham s resident bookie The highest pledge for each horse was then uploaded onto the big screen Note: Only the highest pledge for each horse was accepted. All lower pledges were considered void. 15

17 Results and Rewards Results announced Sponsors prizes promoted and gratefully received LUCKY DRAW Separate competition Each guest had one chance to guess the winning horse, in each race, totally free of charge If their horse won, they entered the lucky draw for Sponsors prizes. 17

18 $5,565 in pledges donated to Heartbeat Vietnam The highest pledge for each horse in each race was collected and entirely donated to Heartbeat Vietnam In total, $5,565 was raised and donated Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) Left untreated, 85 per cent of children born in Vietnam with a CHD will not make it to their 18 th birthday In Vietnam, it is estimated that at any given time, 20,000 children require a life saving heart operation Each operation costs, on average, $3,000 Thanks to matching funding from provincial governments and insurance coverage secured by Heartbeat Vietnam, the cost to a donor such as the Tabcorp Saigon Cup, is just $1,000. To come along to a Saigon Melbourne Cup event, celebrated in Saigon, was an amazing experience. Everyone is asking, Is it going to be happening again? I had a fantastic day. They d be crazy not to hold it again. I think it s a wonderful thing. To bring something from Australia to Vietnam and to get people excited That s very, very special. Created genuine excitement among attendees Has prompted several sponsors to register an interest in being involved in the event again Built a platform for a similar event to be held in 2015, if deemed appropriate 23
