1 AN AGGIE NEWS PUBLICATION 2013 FROM THE PRESIDENT Dale Gibson 83 WOW!!! What a year our first year in the SEC has been!! I said it last year and I don t mind saying it again what an exciting time to be an Aggie! A winning record in the SEC for our first season! Johnny Football Manziel and the Heisman Trophy plus exciting prospects for the foreseeable future Our new decals are in I have talked to a lot of Aggies over the course of the past year that have assured me that they are members of the Denton County A&M Club.. Now let s clear the air.if you don t already have one of these decals.then you are not an ACTIVE member and I would encourage you to rectify the situation immediately. Your membership helps support our scholarship efforts. Even though I borrowed the idea from the Association of Former Students, one of my goals is to find ways to bring added value to your membership and strength to our local Aggie Network. The new decals are just one way to show everybody who WE are. I would also like to find local businesses Aggie owned or not that would like to have the 6,000+ Denton County Aggie residents patronize their establishments with exclusive offers and discounts to DCAMC members. To that end, if you are, or know of someone who fits that description, let us know. 4 Past President s Challenge for 2013 Larry Collis 83 Past President Are you a leader? In today s business world, no one can have too much leadership experience to grow their careers and their potential earnings. Did you know that being a leader in a volunteer organization can show your employer or prospective employer that you are made of the right stuff and are committed to success? Did you know that the Denton County A&M Club is a great place for you to grow your leadership skills? Or, that it s a great place to leverage your experience in a leadership role? The continuing success of the Denton County A&M Club depends upon the incorporation of new leaders while retiring officers roll out. The majority of the current officers have served together for several years and have seen the club through economic challenges and achieved successes to keep scholarships available to Denton County high school graduates attending our beloved Texas A&M University. This spirit, like that of Texas A&M, is an example of what you and every Aggie are made of. If you would like to grow your leadership skills or use your experience in a leadership role, I d like to invite you to attend an Officers Meeting (first Saturday of the month at Square One Café, located at 136 West Main St., Lewisville, TX). Please let us know you are coming by contacting: Dale Gibson 83, d.gibson83@aggienetwork.com, Drew Larson 01, drewlarson@gmail.com, Larry Collis 83, project.whisper@gmail.com, If you have time constraints and want to lead quietly, then please join or re-join the club for $25 a year either on-line at or by mailing a check to Denton County A&M Club, P.O. Box , Lewisville, TX Just a reminder that the Denton County A&M Club is a non-profit organization and depends upon memberships and donations to fund scholarships for Denton County students that enrolls at Texas A&M. If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, you may do it the same way as joining. God Bless You and Gig em, Larry Collis 83, Past-President

5 The Big Event Howdy Ags! It's that time of year again to get your hands dirty and give back to you community through the 2013 Texas A&M BigEvent! This year we are slated to help Hearts for Homes in Denton and CCA in Lewisville with a couple of their key projects that they need volunteers for. Hearts for Homes is a Christian-based outreach ministry that provides no-cost home repairs to low-income elderly homeowners in the Denton County area of Texas. Typical work includes painting, caulking, roofing, plumbing repairs, siding repairs and yard clean-up. Hearts for Homes coordinates with local agencies, churches, elderly service providers and community groups to identify low-income elderly homeowners in need of assistance. Last year we helped strip, clean, and repair a couple's bedroom, as well as clean up their kitchen and area surrounding their house. Christian Community Action (CCA) is a non-profit organization that helps the needy in the greater Lewisville area. In one year, CCA assists more than 12,000 individuals, distributes more than $1.4 million of food, and see more than 4,000 low-income patients in a health center. Last year we assisted CCA in remodeling one of their local stores that sells gently used and donated items. While last year was awesome and we did a lot of good in our community, I think we can do it bigger and better in 2013, but I need your help! Commit to one day, Saturday March 23, 2013 to spend a few hours helping those that are less fortunate and to spread the Aggie spirit. To me A&M has always been a place that instills that sense of responsibility to support those that are less fortunate, and what better way to display this than to join in a large concerted effort with your fellow Aggie family. The date of March 23rd is directly aligned with when the University will be putting on their Big Event in Bryan/College Station, so let's make this one huge day in which Aggies show the world our true colors! Contact me or kevin.dunnahoo@gmail.com if you would like to join us for this year's Denton County A&M Club's Big Event so I can get an accurate head-count to allocate between the different jobs we will have. I thank you in advance for your spirit and support! Gig 'Em!!! When: Saturday March 23, AM - 3PM (Roughly) Where: Denton County, but we will start at Square One in Lewisville for a quick breakfast and organizational meeting What: Community service in line with the University's community service day. Who: You, and any other Aggies and friends/family of Aggies you can pull along with you. (Age limits may apply, but more info to come on that later) Why: To demonstrate our Aggie Spirit in Denton County and to give back to our local community Thanks and Gig em, Kevin Dunnahoo 07 Kevin Dunahoo 07 Big Event / Young Alumni

6 2013 AGGIE MUSTER "Softly call the Muster, let comrade answer 'Here'..." The heralded traditional ceremony to honor those Aggies who have passed in the past year is one that our club is proud to convene for Aggies in Denton County. Last year's Aggie Muster was a resounding success! Mike Baggett 68 and his son, Carl Baggett 96, spoke on the common bond of family and service that all Aggies have with each other. Thanks to all the officers who worked diligently to provide an excellent program. We hope it served its purpose to rekindle old friendships, enabled some 'Good Bull' stories to be told, and provide a special time for reflection during Roll Call. Our speaker this year is John DeWitt 51 (see bio on next page). Dinner will be catered by our own Travis '00 & Lindsay '06 Holladay (with new baby Hallie '35?) of Square One Sidewalk Cafe & Grill. Proceeds will benefit the students selected as recipients of the Denton County A&M Club Scholarship. Tickets may be purchased at DentonCountyAggies.com. 13 Denton County Aggie Mom s Club Denton County Aggie Moms' Club exists to contribute in every way to the morale and welfare of our Aggie students, to encourage them, and to give back to A&M while having fun. We, Denton County Aggie Moms, exist solely to exemplify this purpose. Officially, the Texas A & M Mothers Clubs is an organization with chapters all over the country, formed by and for mothers of A & M students, who strive to support the University's many organizations and needs, financially and otherwise. Family Support: Monthly Meetings - We get information about A & M and its rich traditions, and we share the all about our Ags. We meet new friends at meetings and help support our fund -raisers. Information: We call or one another for support and send out a monthly newsletter. We send our Aggie families a get well or card of encouragement via s. Howdy/Potlucks: We welcome new Aggie families in July with BBQ beefs and pot luck; and have a Chili Cook-off/Dessert Bake-off in January inviting all our at home for break Aggies. Aggie Brags & Concerns: We share the ups and downs and support one another both ways - listen or give advice. Aggie Student Support: Our Student Hospitality coordinators remember our Aggies by sending them a birthday card with a $2 bill in it. Money Game: At our monthly meetings, moms donate $1 along with her Ag's name and mailing address for a drawing. For every $5 collected, a name is drawn and that Aggie gets a bonus that month! Scholarships: Denton County Aggie Moms Club raises money to give student organization s scholarships to the Aggies whose mothers are members. Since 1989, DCAM has awarded thousands of dollars worth of individual and group scholarships. In addition, we give at least one student scholarship to Texas A&M and they determine the Denton County student who is deemed appropriate for the scholarship. Boutique: Moms work together to sell Aggie merchandise primarily at the Howdy Party, a few meetings, Christmas and on Parents' weekend, where moms work the booth. Pecan Sales (Fall): Direct fundraising by Moms - all voluntary participation. Items pre-ordered and pre-paid and each mom delivers to her own customers. Silent Auction: Spring event and silent auction benefitting the Denton County Aggie Moms Scholarship fund.

14 Philip Sterling 01 Technology Chair I ve devoted a lot of time over the past few years developing a club website that s both informative and simple to use. While it s still a work-in-progress, I think you ll agree it s constantly improving. I ve designed the site to be automated, allowing members and officers alike to dynamically change its content with no technical knowledge, thus saving us all time and energy! Here are a few highlights you may find useful: Ease of Use Navigation is simple and information is [hopefully] easy to find Membership Directory Members are automatically added to the online directory upon paying annual dues, though your contact info is only visible to other club members. Non-members can still send you an by clicking on your name/photo, but your address is never displayed on the site. Contribution History Members can now print out their annual club contribution history, hopefully making tax time a tad easier Site Registration A one-time site registration replaces the old timeconsuming paper membership forms (which the technologically-challenged Ags can still use, of course)! This simple process grants you access to members-only areas and speeds up subsequent membership renewals and purchases in our secure Online Store. You can edit your profile after logging in by using the link at Webmaster s Corner the top right of any page, where you can upload your photo and update your contact information. Keeping your personal information up-to-date enables fellow Ags to contact you and allows us to notify you of any upcoming club events. Activities/Announcements All our upcoming events are displayed on our Online Calendar. The Activities page contains expanded details for our annual programs such as Muster, Business Round Table, etc. Important announcements and upcoming birthdays are displayed on our home page. Miscellaneous Be sure to browse the site for more information including photos from past events, scholarship info, and Aggie links. Please take a moment to check out DentonCountyAggies.com, and be sure to visit some of our Aggie sponsors while there! Hopefully you find the site easy to navigate and full of useful club information. I d love to hear your comments or suggestions for improvement!
