1 February 2010 Dear Friend: The Women s Philanthropy Board has as its core mission to foster independence as financial decision makers and donors, serve as philanthropic role models and enhance leadership skills in aspiring philanthropists. With this in mind, we are pleased to share information about a new joint venture between the College of Human Sciences Women s Philanthropy Board and Auburn University s Early Learning Center in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. This summer (July 2010), we will pilot a philanthropy camp for children ages 6-12 called Camp icare. Through this experience, we seek to teach children the basic skills of being money smart and philanthropically engaged. Camp icare will take place in the Early Learning Center right at the heart of AU s campus for four mornings from Monday, July 12 Thursday, July 15, Children will have a fun-filled experience as they explore themes of financial and philanthropic stewardship and leadership. The tuition for Camp icare will be $150 per camper. Please see the enclosed information which outlines the curriculum and activities of Camp icare. In addition, you will find some camp basics and forms that must be signed. The deadline to register your camper for Camp icare 2010 is May 31, We are happy to answer any of your questions about Camp icare and encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Drop Off Information: On the first day of Camp icare, please bring your camper to the Auburn University Early Learning Center (ELC) which is located in the heart of AU s campus. During the first morning of Camp icare, we will need to ensure that your child is appropriately registered and that we have your child s completed medical release form and other documents on file. Please drop your camper off each morning at 8:00 am (no later than 8:10 am) in front of the Auburn University Early Learning Center. See enclosed map for parking information. Pick up Information: Please pick up your child each day no later than 12:00 noon. If an emergency situation arises which prevents you from being on time to pick up your child, please call the Camp icare Directors. An extended or delayed pick up will result in a fee of $1.00 per minute and will be assessed beginning at 12:00 noon each day. If you have made arrangements with another person to pick-up your child after camp, please bring a signed note to this effect to check-in on the first day of camp.

5 Information What to bring/wear to Camp icare Completed medical release form: Please complete and/or fax, bring or mail a completed medical release form no later than June 30, Please submit this form to Camp icare, 210 Spidle Hall, Auburn University, AL or fax to Comfortable and appropriate clothes and shoes: Camp icare participants should wear comfortable summer clothes. Please have your camper wear athletic shoes with closed toes. Open toe shoes such as flip flops, crocs or sandals are not appropriate footwear for Camp icare. Campers will play on the ELC playground and will take part in various activities, so please dress them in clothes that can get dirty. Supplies: Camp icare participants will be given supplies for the camp duration including pens, pencils, paper, etc. Please do not bring supplies to Camp icare. Snacks: Camp icare participants will be given a snack each morning during the camp. If the camper has any food allergies, please alert the camp directors immediately and indicate the food allergy on the registration form. Cell Phones: We do not encourage campers to bring cell phones to Camp icare. We understand that parents may feel more comfortable knowing their child is carrying a cell phone. For this reason, cell phones are allowed at Camp icare, however, campers must turn off their cell phones during the morning sessions. If a situation arises in which you need to immediately contact your child, please use the emergency contact information provided. Auburn University is not responsible for cell phones that are lost or stolen during Camp icare. What NOT to bring to Camp icare: Portable electronic and/or gaming devices will not be allowed at Camp icare. Skateboards, bikes or other wheeled devices. Pets of any kind Food, candy or chewing gum

Camp icare is a summer camp experience for kids ages At Camp icare financial and philanthropic responsibility are taught through engaging and informative courses, activities and field trip experiences. During this information-packed camp, students will become more in-tuned about being money smart and philanthropically inclined. Who should attend? Does your child think money grows on trees? Do you find yourself wondering how to teach your child about the value of money? Does your child care about people and how to make the world a better place? Is your child aware that they can make a HUGE difference in the lives of others at a young age? If you answered yes to any of these questions and you have a child ages 6 12 then Camp icare is an ideal option for you. When is Camp icare? Monday, July 12 Thursday, July 15, :00 am 12:00 noon each day How does Camp icare work? Camp icare is a four-day, morning camp for students ages (Students must have completed Kindergarten.) During Camp icare campers will participate in dynamic, hands-on learning and service oriented activities. The topics that are covered will include wants vs. needs, leadership, and giving (time, talent, treasure and trust). Daily schedules for campers are provided below. 7 Who will be supervising my child? All instructors, Camp icare counselors, and staff have undergone a rigorous application and screening process. All personnel have experience working with children and have undergone specific training for this camp. What makes this camp unique? Camp icare is the first camp of its kind on the AU campus that is dedicated to teaching kids how to be money smart, understand wants vs. needs, and practice philanthropy. Through this unique learning program, campers will develop their leadership and giving skills while making a positive impact on others. How will Camp icare help my child succeed in the future? Camp icare is designed to foster children s imaginations, develop leadership, encourage compassion, and highlight the need for children to be money smart while helping others. After participating in Camp icare we believe your child will feel empowered and encouraged to make a difference in the world. Are there any scholarships available for Camp icare? At this time there are no scholarships available for Camp icare. Did you know that we offer an Early Bird special? Early-Bird Discounts are available with completed registration forms and payment by Thursday, December 31, This discount is not available after January 1, What is included in the camp fees? What do I do if my child requires a prescription medication while attending the program? For students who require prescription medications while attending the program, it is essential that parents complete this form and upon camp check-in, bring the medication to a Camp icare staff person clearly labeled with student name, contents, and dosage information.
