2 DIPLOMA OF AVIATION (INSTRUMENT RATING) The rating authorises the holder to act as Pilot In Command (PIC) of flights under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) by day and by night in single pilot operations, and will cover departures, arrivals and instrument approach procedures, as well en-route operation standards. This rating allows you to fly in cloudy weather conditions. This is a very important skill as it allows you to fly depart, transit and arrive in restricted weather. Pilots require an instrument rating in chart and RPT jobs and to become an airline pilot this rating is a compulsory requirement. The rating takes a minimum of 40 hours, which including 20 Hours of flight simulator training and 20 hours of practical flight training. You will be taught and assessed in navigation aid tracking, instrument approaches, emergency procedures, take-off procedures and landing procedures.
