1 Opening by Master of Ceremony (MC) Joseph Suidan, Head of Ground Operations, IATA IGHC Ground Handling Conference Joseph Suidan joined IATA in July 2008 as Assistant Director, ISAGO. Before joining IATA, Joseph spent close to seven years as Airport manager Canada for Austrian Airlines. Prior to that, he served as Regional Manager Sales and services and Head of Toronto and Montreal Stations for Royal Jordanian Airlines for 17 Years. During these years of service, Joseph worked very closely with the commercial and industry affairs departments of various Airlines, Regulators and Airport Authorities of Canada, Austria and Jordan. Joseph has served extensively on various Conferences and Committees during his years with the Airline industry. He was also a Member of the AOC (Airline Operating Committee) for a period of ten years. Round Table Discussion: Honoring the Business Relationship Moderator: Bob Gurr, Director Sales and Marketing, BidAir Services (Pty) Ltd. With more than 35 years experience in the aviation industry, Bob has spent the past eighteen years working for leading South African ground handling companies. Prior to his direct involvement in ground handling he was employed by two national airlines as Airport Management. He has a wellrounded perspective of the dynamics of ground handling through being both a buyer and a seller of services over the past twenty five years. Having joined BidAir Services during 2004 he played a pivotal role in the project which culminated in them emerging as a major provider of quality ground handling services in the Southern African market. His current role is that of Director Sales and Marketing Bob chairs the Airside Operators Association of South Africa, representing providers of ramp, cargo, catering, security and fuel services to the airline industry and has served as an Officer of the IGHC since 2006.
2 Panelists: David Laufer, President & CEO, Laufer Aviation GHI Ltd. Mr. David Laufer was born in New York in 1960 and educated in the US. He moved to Israel where he served as a pilot in the Israeli Air Force, completing his military service with the rank of major. In 1986, he joined Laufer Aviation as Operations Manager and in 1991 was appointed General Manager. In 2004, he initiated the merger between Laufer Aviation and GHI, which created Laufer Aviation-GHI in 2007 Mr. Laufer holds the position of chairman of AVIANCE the international alliance for ground handling companies, a position he has held since 2001 Sally Leible, President & COO, Airport Terminal Services Ms. Leible has been with Airport Terminal Services since its inception in She started as a Station Manager in St. Louis and has consistently progressed through the management ranks to include Vice President of Operations and Vice president of Sales & Marketing through to her current position as President and Chief Operating Officer. Under Ms. Leible s leadership, the company has grown dramatically, from one airport location to over 35 airports served in the US and Canada. Ms. Leible serves on the Board of Directors for Aviance (an international marketing alliance of aviation ground handling companies), IAHA (International Airline Handling Association) and is active in IATA/IGHC. She is also active in the Airline Service Council under the auspices of NATA. Ms. Leible was selected as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in St. Louis by the St. Louis Business Journal.
3 Salih Samim Aydin, Member of Board Directors International Aviation and Public Affairs, Celebi Aviation Holding In July 2010, Samim became the President, Ground Services Europe for Celebi. Before joining the Celebi Group in 2005, he was the Director of Terminal Operations in Manila, where he was seconded by Fraport, from 2000 to He then worked at the company's Frankfurt Head Office until mid-2005 and became CEO of Celebi Ground Handling in Prior to this Samim was the CEO and Board Member of Bayindir Antalya Airport Terminal Management (from 1997 until 2000). After the start-up of operations, he managed this first BOT project in Turkey. He gained his BSc in Mechanical Engineering with two majors in Machine Design and Industrial Engineering at Bogazici University in Samim speaks English, French and German and holds a private pilot's licence. Max Corsi, Manager Airport Operations & Ground Safety, Air Transat Panos Nicolaidis, Ground Operations Director, Aegean Airlines Panos Nicolaidis received his B.A in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Findlay, Ohio, USA. After completing his studies he joined the aviation business. In 1999 he joined Aegean Airlines as the airline s major hub Station Manager, Ground Handling Agreements Manager and acting also as Deputy Ground Operations Director. In 2010, he moved to his new position as Ground Operations Director, Aegean Airlines. He has an extensive in depth knowledge of airline operations and the associated problems. He was one of the main contributors for the successful acceptance of Aegean Airlines as a member in Star Alliance. He is a member of the IATA AGSA working group since 2004.
4 Round Table Discussion: Should Ground Handling be a Certified Trade? Moderator: David Clark, Head of Ground Operations Quality and Training, British Airways David is Head of Ground Operations Quality & Training within British Airways, reporting to the Director of Operations and responsible for worldwide ground operations standards including aircraft de/anti-icing, along with compliance oversight and ground handling training. He has worked for BA for 14 years, initially as an aeronautical engineer but more recently in a number of ground operations roles including airport management, ground handling safety and operational auditing. His current role also includes membership of the crisis management team, chairing the airline's crisis response to operational disruption and aircraft incidents. David has been a member of the IATA Safety Audit Ground Operations (ISAGO) Oversight Committee since it's inception and also sits on the UK CAA's Ground Handling Operations Safety Team (GHOST). 5 Dimitrios Sanos, Product Manager, Airport & Ground Operations Training, IATA Dimitrios is a member of team managing training programmes, reporting to Head of Instructor Led training at IATA s Training and Development Institute. He is currently based at Geneva Head Quarters. He manages the IATA s training programmes globally, related to Airports Planning and Management and Ground Operations. His primary role is to monitor training activities in his area of expertise, develop new training courses and enhance existing, maintain and develop faculty membership worldwide, as well as manage global market research analysis to cover the training needs of airlines, airports and ground service providers. He is a Physicist, with Masters Degree in Airport Planning and Management and recently completed his MBA at Kent Business School. Prior to joining IATA in 2010, he worked for Aegean Airlines and Goldair Handling in Athens, Greece, in different operational and management positions. He started his career as a Technical Project Manager in IT Network sector. 6 Henrik Ambak, VP Ground Services & Commercial IT, Cargolux Airlines International S.A. Henrik spend 16-years in operational and commercial management roles in airport and cargo handling as well as trucking services before joining Cargolux in 2001 as Head of Ground Services. Since then Henrik has with Cargolux served as Head of IT responsible for the implementation of the outsourcing of IT followed by the responsibility for the establishment of the corporate environment strategy and action plan. In 2008 Henrik returned to Ground Services (Service Contracting, Standards & Procedures, Ground Safety, ULD management, Customs and ebusiness) and at the same time took up the responsibility for the IT services used by the Sales & Marketing Division. He further serves as an Officer of the IATA Ground Handling Council. Javed Malik, Director Ramp Operations & Maintenance, Bangkok Flight Services Vinay Bhalla, Safety Manager - Ground, Emirates Graduating with a BSc in Physics from Mumbai University in 1990, Vinay attended Parks College of St. Louis University and graduated in 1994 with a BSc in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and an Associates in Aircraft Maintenance Management. In 1996 he graduated from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburgh, with an MSc in Aviation Safety. Whilst completing his Masters, Vinay enrolled and joined TWA as an intern in the Performance Department and continued as an intern with TWA Corporate Safety. In June 1996 he joined Trans State Express as a Quality Engineer. On his return to Dubai, he joined Emirates Airlines in the Ground Safety department and has been part of the team since In 2006 he was promoted to the position of Safety Manager Ground, responsible for investigation into aircraft ground damage, personal injury, dangerous goods and station audits. He is an active member to the IATA Airside Safety Group, IATA Ground Damage Database Team. Vinay was instrumental in hosting two Airside Safety seminars in Dubai.
7 Round Table Discussion: Cost Versus Service The Ground Handling Business Model Conundrum Moderator: Marsha Rivera-Ragusa, Director Contracts, Procurement Ground Operations, British Airways Marsha began her aviation career in 1975 as a manager for an airline catering company and joined British Airways in 1977, working in a variety of positions within in-flight and ground operations before joining the Procurement Department in She is currently Director Procurement responsible for the contracting of ground operation services in the North America, Mexico, Caribbean and Asia-Pacific. Marsha has been active in the IGHC and AGSA Working Groups for several years and is currently Chairman of the IGHC. Panelists: Barry Nassberg, Executive Vice President & COO, Worldwide Flight Services Barry Nassberg is Group Chief Operating Officer of Worldwide Flight Services, the global airport services company and world's largest air cargo handler. Barry has been with WFS for almost 20 years, initially in Europe during its days as a subsidiary of American Airlines, and later in Asia as he led the company's rapid growth in regions beyond its traditional strongholds in Europe and North America. He began in aviation as a Passenger Services Agent some 34 years ago, later joining Pan American Airways in a career that would eventually encompass the full range of airline and airport services activities. Barry lives in Hong Kong, and oversees the global activities and development of WFS, with a particular focus on its entry into new markets. Mr. Nassberg is a native of New York City, but has spent most of his youth and professional life outside the USA. 8 Walter Riggans, Divisional Vice President Airport Services (Outstations), Emirates Walter has over 40 years Industry experience starting with Caledonian Airways, later British Caledonian, before moving to Highland Express, SITA, SriLankan and now Emirates. He has been based in the UK, Nairobi, Lagos, Freetown, New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and now Dubai. He is presently Divisional Vice President Outstations for Emirates Airport Services. Carlos Romero, Global Director of Ramp Safety, LSG Sky Chefs 28 Years in safety arena started in June 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah for Marriott In-Flite as city safety manager. In 1989 became regional director of safety of North America which included 17 facilities. Then became company became Caterair International Corporation that year also. I then became Corporate Director of Loss Prevention in Maryland until n 1995 the company became Sky Chefs and in 1998 became LSG Sky Chefs until present. During those years held positions in Security, Quality, Workers Compensation, and Employee Safety. I have been an active member of the following groups: The Flight Safety Foundation GAP Ground Accident Prevention group for 4 years Active member of the Airbus A-380 catering safety group for 3 years. Active member and past chairman of the ARTEX National Safety Council International Air Transport Section (one of the oldest sections of the National Safety Council). Member of IATA ISAGO task force from inception Active member of IGOM task force Member of the ASG-Airside safety group for last 2 years Founding President of Carbon-Emery EMT Association Member Governor s Mental Health and Public Health Advisory group in Southeastern Utah
9 Anna Lysek, Vice President of the Board, GDN Airport Services Sp. Z.o.o. Anna graduated in Economy at the University of Gdansk, Poland. She started to work for the Aviation industry In 1991 in London, as a Reservation and Ticketing Clerk for LOT-Polish Airlines. After two years she took up the position of Sales Executive. In 1995 Anna moved to Gdansk and joined the newly established ground handling company LOT-ULG ( now GDN Airport Services ) where she held the position of Cargo manager, Sales Manager and Quality Manager. In 2000 she was appointed Vice President of the Board.
