3 Page: General The industry standard for messages is based on IATA Standard Messages transmitted on the SITA network. SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunica-tions Aéronautiques) is an organisation by the airlines for the airlines. SITA offers a number of services to the airline industry such as code-sharing, clearinghouse services, various operational services etc. In communications we are primarily interested in the SITA network for transmitting messages. In general, SITA messages are faster and more reliable than AFTN, commercial telex and/or fax Company Designators TBA Movement Messages General Aircraft movement messages serve the purpose of controlling punctual and regular operation of all flights; they are also basis for co-ordinating aircraft and crew rotation and for the registration of flight duty hours for the technical and commercial department. Stations report departures, arrivals and delays by sending a teletype departure, arrival or delay message as appropriate. The aircraft movement messages shall be dispatched immediately after departure or arrival of a flight or whenever a delay occurs. The following shall be observed: except SITA-addresses no internal addresses shall be used the formats shown shall strictly be followed corrected versions always have to be sent as complete messages; in this case the remark "corr. version" has to be stated under SI = supplementary information. For destinations for which a 3-letter airport code has been published by IATA in addition to a city code, the airport code shall be used within the text of all operational telexes. Primarily it is the task of the handling agent to transmit and other traffic related messages. This obligation is included in the IATA SGHA (Standard Ground Handling Agreement). shall be dispatched to all stations concerned with the flight Arrival. 7 Page: Delay Codes General Delay codes are used to document delay reasons and/or other irregularities. IATA stipulates that numeric codes are preferred, but in our part of the world letter codes are more common Codes The codes are reserved for the operators internal use.
