6 Maps & directions The following maps have been designed to guide you through the route, step by step. They are not, however, a substitute for good navigation. section 1 8KM From: Point (Aireville Park 600m from Registration) SD To: Waterstop 1 (Gargrave) SD It is compulsory that your team and your Support Crew carry and use Ordnance Survey maps. You should use 1:50,000 Landranger Maps 98 and 103 or you can purchase an 1:50,000 OS Select Map centred on SD Make sure you know how to read them and ensure you do not just rely on one navigator, as you never know who might drop out. The route comprises parts of the following four trails: 1. Leeds Bradford Canal 2. Pennine Way 3. Dales Way 4. Rights of Way The Pennine Way & Dales Way sections are signposted, as you would expect from a national long-distance route. However you should make sure you do use your map and compass and don t just rely on the signs. The other sections have limited signage so you will need to take extra care with your navigation. You should make sure someone is in charge Target times (hrs) 12, 18, 24, 30 of navigation over a particular section and you should also appoint someone to act as the check navigator who will keep up with the team s progress. First Aid Hot and cold drinks will be available at every checkpoint and waterstop, so please take advantage of these. It is vital to keep your body properly hydrated and nourished. First Aid support will be available at every checkpoint and waterstop, and if you have any problems you should alert a member of the event medical staff. Remember the Countryside Code Please be aware that over 1000 people will be involved with Trailtrekker and that everyone should use the toilets and rubbish bins provided at the checkpoints and waterstops. This event depends on the goodwill of local communities and others, so please be considerate and follow the Countryside Code. Estimated timings for teams attempting to complete the course within a target time. They are calculated using an average pace for each desired time. The calculations do not include time for stops on the route or at checkpoints and these should be factored in to your planning times. 1 Distance: 8km Ascent: 52m Descent: 60m N.B.
