2 The Prez Sez: The more things change, the more they stay the same. As time goes by, we seem to have new tragedies almost daily, seemingly one after another. We have had hurricane after hurricane and the latest mass shooting, this one in Las Vegas, is very sobering. Life can be crazy busy at times and we all need to take a breath and be thankful for what we have in our lives; for who we have in our lives; and for the future that we can have. If you are able to, do something - whatever you can, to help others. With all of us doing our part, we can make the world a better place. Speaking of better places, our ski season is barreling down on us faster than you may realize. As you read this, ski and board shops are opening and it is snowing out west. By now you should be making payments on your LSC club trip that is, believe it or not, right around the corner. If you are hesitating on registering, you may be sorry because there is a good chance that trip you wanted to go on is going to be sold out. As usual, Jon and the trip committee have compiled an impressive slate of trips that is strong on value and I m sure will be overwhelming with fun. Sign up soon so you don t miss out!! We have made an adjustment to the date of our next membership meeting which is also the Central PA Ski Expo. This event will now be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Donegal Heights in Mount Joy. This change was necessary due to scheduling conflicts with the mountains representatives who have many events they are attempting to juggle during this busy time of year. I hope you can make it out to peruse the displays and maybe even win some raffle prizes. Now is your chance to get in shape for the upcoming ski and board season. Its time to get off the couch, take a walk, go for a bike ride, or just get your food intake under some type of control. With the help of a free phone app, I actually started doing this about a month ago and I am surprised at both the results that I have seen and the mountain of food that I must have been consuming. Some simple awareness, and self control, can do wonders for your BMI. I hope to see you all soon and its time to think snow! 3 FULL MOON TOUR AT WOLF SANCTUARY OF PA November 4, :30-10:00 pm Cost - $20 per person Join LSC for a fun-filled evening at the Wolf Sanctuary, 465 Speedwell Forge Rd, Lititz, PA on Saturday Nov 4th. LSC will meet promptly at 7pm right inside the entrance of the sanctuary, where we will congregate before beginning our tour. Members and their families are welcome to attend and join us. You will be responsible for the purchase of your own ticket/tickets either in advance or at the event, not through the LSC or me. I am asking, however, that you contact me if you are interested in attending so we can get an idea of who all will be joining our group. Facts about the Full-Moon Tour as written by management are as follows: Our full moon tours are a bit different. The event features a roaring bonfire (weather permitting), live entertainment, and self-guided tours. Guides are stationed at each pack throughout the event to provide information on the wolves at the sanctuary as well as facts and information about wolf conservation and biology. You may bring a blanket, flashlight, chair, non-alcoholic beverages, maybe some hot dogs, and marshmallows for roasting - please bring your own stick. Water and coffee are provided in the gift shop through the generosity of our volunteer staff. What not to bring: no pets, no alcohol, no photography lenses over 5 in length, and no tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks. Sometimes we just sit around and talk, other times we have entertainment. We always have fun and it s always about the wolves! The tour is held rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. PLEASE wear good walking shoes, as there is limited light availability and you will be walking on uneven ground. Please be mindful to avoid shining lights directly towards the wolves. Again, please RSVP if you are interested in attending. Hope to see you at the Wolf Sanctuary! Devera Kazmerski, Social Chairperson devykaz@aol.com or (717) September Membership Meeting Recap The Pressroom in downtown Lancaster provided some good appetizers for our Social Hour. Posters for the various trips this coming season were on display for trip sign-up. The highlight of the evening was the program, featuring six members of the Wounded Warrior Patrol. They provided an excellent presentation of the fine work they do for our wounded veterans and their families, with a focus on snow sports. A check for a charitable donation of $3,000 was presented to them in support of their fine work. Also, another check for a donation of $3,000 was presented to Phil Klemmer, representing the Special Olympics of Lancaster County, in support of their work with the local Special Olympian skiers. All of this was made possible by the proceeds from our annual benefit auction. Don Benninger, Programs Chair dhbenninger@verizon.net or (717) Page 3
