2 Preparation in College 15 th July Travel Dates 16th to 19 th July

3 Monday 15 th July Arrive at CamVC; normal College timings. Preparation for the trip: French language activities both for beginners and those already studying French to include the very basics for beginners of course! Investigation of the Paris landmarks that we will be seeing

9 Money: We recommend some for shopping/snacks (service station stops) Mobile phones: Mobile phones are not necessary but may be bought and used at these times: On the journey for listening to music/entertainment For the purpose of taking photographs In an emergency to contact a member of staff on the trip This is common sense etiquette but Mobile phones should not be used as an alternative to engaging in conversation. The whole purpose of the trip is to meet new people, experience a different culture and share enjoyable activities. Unhelpful or excessive use of mobiles can be a barrier to face-to-face interaction and could mean that you miss out on great opportunities.

10 What to pack A packed lunch for the outward journey or money to purchase a snack Sufficient & appropriate clothing for 3 nights away and variable weather conditions incl. rain Nightwear Personal toiletries Personal medication (travel sickness tablets, hay fever, etc.) A rucksack/bag for use during the trip Comfortable shoes Pen & paper Small French dictionary (perhaps on your phone) Quiet entertainment for journeys e.g. ipod, books, games Camera Mobile phone (permitted see additional notes) Sun cream & hat & sunglasses Electric adapter for the continent Plastic bag for dirty laundry Towel DVD for the coach (PG/12 only!) One main piece of luggage that you can carry yourself plus one smaller bag for out and about

11 Terrorist Activity in Cities Please do not be alarmed by this but know that we are taking this situation seriously and always consider very carefully whether different trips/visits should go ahead. Current advice from the Police, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Cambridgeshire County Council says that trips and visits can/should still go ahead. If this changes, we will make changes to what we are planning to do or to what is already taking place, and parents will be informed. For all trips, we already have a number of measures in place to ensure the safety and security of staff and students, especially if an emergency situation presents itself. County have issued advice on what we should be doing to make sure we are prepared if such a situation occurs in light of recent events all of which we are already doing. Parents are free to decide for themselves if their son/ daughter will go on a trip. Staff will be briefed about what to do if a threatening event occurs and Senior Leaders will be on hand to help via phone contact. Government advice has been included in trip packs around the idea of RUN- HIDE- TELL and staff and pupils have been/ will be briefed on this. If there are any concerns during the week the school can be contacted or out of hours the on call SLG number can be used (on the information letter).
