9 Kit List It is recommended that your son brings with him, the following items:- General Clothing/Items- Underpants/boxers Jeans/tracksuit bottoms T Shirts Sweatshirts/jumpers Socks Comfortable second pair of shoes (eg : trainers) Boots/stronger pair of outdoor shoes Toilet bag containing toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo/shower gel, comb etc. Towel Swimwear/swim goggles Nightwear (eg: pyjamas) Zipped wallet for money Any regular medication (please advise on the YELLOW Parent/Carer Consent form 1 ) Ski/Boarding clothing/items - Ski jacket Salopettes (ski pants) Ski hat (+ balaclava, face mask, neck ruff etc.) Ski goggles & ski sunglasses Ski gloves (+ wrist guards if boarding) Ski socks Long sleeve roll/polo neck Skiing sun cream & lip salve Thermal underclothes (t-shirts/long johns) Note: your son will be provided with the following kit as part of the trip: Skis & poles/snowboard, ski/snowboard boots, helmet. Remember, it could get very cold and it is all about layers of clothing 9
10 Additional information Money For reasons of security and convenience, we would prefer all pupils get a pre-loaded Canadian dollar currency card. All places in the resort accept them and there are several ATMs where the boys can withdraw money. We are recommending the Caxton FX card so that all pupils have the same one. We want the pupils to have two cards if possible. We will keep one as a spare for any emergencies. Also we will require the card PIN number so we can keep a note of it if your son forgets it! We also recommend your son takes some $ cash for the beginning of the holiday (say $30 - $50) so he has money on him for incidentals before we get to Panorama, as well as some Euros for incidentals in Amsterdam airport. Don t forget that shopping will be done before we get to Panorama but he will be able to use his pre-loaded dollar card there. Drop-off & Pick-up The meeting and collection point for this trip is Manchester airport (NOT school). DROP OFF - You need to ensure that your son is dropped off at Manchester Airport at 04.00am on Sunday 7 th April PICK UP You will need to pick your son up, again from Manchester Airport at approximately 11.30am on Sunday 14 th April Pupil Mobile Phones/Gadgets Obviously for a trip of this nature, your son will also be able to take his own mobile phone to contact you as well as any other digital device he wishes to take with him. Please just make sure your son s mobile phone operates in Canada. However, it must be noted that the security of any of these devices lies with your son. If your son wishes to phone home via a normal pay-phone we suggest he buys a local pre-paid phone card as it is much cheaper than phoning directly using the hotel phone or his mobile phone. Also a travel plug adaptor will be needed. Telephone code for the UK from Canada is followed by the home number e.g Free WiFi is available in the hotel so he will be able to contact you free via WhatsApp/Facetime etc. as well. Insurance Insurance for all pupils on this trip is covered by the school s travel insurance policy. 10
11 Food For the majority of the holiday, breakfast and an evening meal are included each day. The one main exception is lunch and it will be up to the boys to buy their own in the numerous restaurants, fast food outlets and cafeterias in the various locations at Panorama. Budget around $15-$20 per day. Miscellaneous Time difference Please note - the time difference between Panorama and the UK is -7 hours. Shopping On arrival in Calgary on the Sunday afternoon/early evening on the way to Panorama we will be visiting an outlet shopping mall Crossirons Outlet. Here the boys will have around two hours to shop so they must bring enough money to do so if they so wish. The shops on site can be seen on their website:- Sightseeing in Calgary A coach sightseeing trip around Calgary has been arranged for the last day before we fly home. We will endeavour to go round as much of the touristy parts of Calgary as possible to see some of the main attractions. Note there will be no opportunity to shop within Calgary itself and pupils will be accompanied on the tour at all times. 11
12 Canadian eta Travel code & Passport All passengers travelling to Canada must have an eta approval code. I would be grateful if you could apply for this and provide me with the approval code and bring it to the information meeting.
