To reach the awe inspiring Brako Viewpoint climb 200m. Bring a rch and an evening snack and wine enjoy the sunset. The Brako viewpoint is breath taking with a 334m vertical drop straight in the Atlantic Ocean (note - no exposure except at viewpoint) Cars will be transported Hout Bay Heights and the start. NOTWOODY RAVINE Difficult Hike This hike is subject change An exciting rock scramble up peak above Camps Bay. In vicinity of Wood Buttress route with lots of rock scrambling and great views. Descent via Woody Ravine. Bring at least 2l water, lunch etc. Visrs and those unsure pls discuss with convenor in advance. Rain cancels. Cell: CHAMPAGNE BREAKFAST - TOKAI FOREST Venue is at the Tokai forest picnic site. Bring your skottles and breakfast goodies - we supply the champagne. Bring entry fee RED HILL TO KLEINPLAAS DAM Via Grootkop Kleinplaas Dam for tea then back via direct route. Lovely views and interesting terrain. We will be walking at a brisk pace WOODCUTTERS PATH - NEWLANDS Hike in Newlands Forest. CONSTANTIA GREENBELT - GROOTBOSKLOOF A pleasant walk, following the river Peddlars (for a lemonade?), Returning partially the same way. HAPPY VALLEY - WIT RIVER Hike from Eerste Tol along the path Happy Valley, joining the jeep track and then descending the Wit River at the Limietberg hut or closer the weir. 2 Wednesday GROOTWINTERHOEK - NEW YEAR 2015 Celebrate New Year in the Grootwinterhoek! Drive Grootwinterhoek in the afternoon of 31st December and hike down the path next the Grootkliphuis River in the evening the huts at De Tronk (13 km 3 hr). On New Year's Day hike down De Hel (10 km return), passing San rock paintings, and swim in the spectacular pool at the botm. The 2nd of January will be a more relaxing day exlore the area. Return on 3rd Jan in the early morning beat the heat. Huts are basic with bunk beds and only one shower available. Conservation fees of R60 not included in the cost. A Wildcard will cover conservation fees so please provide your Wildcard number when booking by mervyn.henderson@gmail.com. People who book after the permit payment deadline will not have this choice, so please book early! This will be a recce of sorts!!! SCARBOROUGH- KLEINPLAAS DAM From Scarorough, hike up the plateau, past Platberg, between the gap of Vlooiberg and Grootkop and down Klein Plaas Dam for tea before returning the same way. We may optionally ascend Grootkop on the way back. Walk barefoot on the sandy beach along the coast caressed by the Atlantic waves past Kakapo shipwreck the tidal pool at Kommetjie. Bring money for a pub lunch at Helmsman Pub. LIONS RUMP Delighful easy walk round the base of Lions Head. Hopefully the watsonias will be in bloom. As always the views will be stunning. Bring plenty of water and a tea snack. There is very little shade on this walk. JONKERSHOEK WATERFALLS Difficult Hike A visit two waterfalls in the Jonkershoek nature reserve. Bring costume, wild card and cash for snack/petrol costs. 3 Thursday Monday Phillip Williams :00 16:00 BP Service station Pinelands STEENBRAS RIVER SWIMMING TRAIL We head out just beyond Gordon's Bay explore the lower Steenbras gorge. Pretty river course with limited shade and cover & a few small pools along the route. Lunch & swimming sps at the quietest of the three p pools. The more energetic can climb the ridge for the view from the p before we return. No Wildcard. OTTER TRAIL The flagship trail of SA! Hike up and down the hills, through forest and along the shoreline, crossing rivers and swimming in the sea! Day 1 (4,8 km, 2 hr) Srms River Ngubu past the waterfall. Day 2 (7,9 km, 4 hr) To Scott via Skilderkrans and Bloubaai for a swim! Day 3 (7,7, 4 hr) To Oakhurst via Elandsbos and the Lottering Rivers. Day 4 (13,8, 6 hr) A more strenuous day cross the Bloukrans River. Day 5 (6,8 km, 3 hr) Nature's Valley, mostly along the plateau. Bring plenty of water NEWLANDS RAVINE Contact convenor for details CONSTANTIA VINEYARDS A pleasant ramble through the constantia Vineyards. Bring snack and water. No shade on this one. TABLE MOUNTAIN - SKELETON GORGE & DAMS From Cecilia, along the Conur path Skelen Gorge. From the p, we'll proceed up the Aquaduct for hopefully, our first glimpse of Disas. Down Disa gorge for more Disa sightings and a visit the Waterworks Museum. Then return down Cecilia buttress and back cars. A long day, bring at least 1 and a half litres water but there could be water on route. 4 John Powell Brian Ford :00 14:30 OLIFANTSBOS TO THE GATE VIA SIRKELVLEI Start at Olifantsbos picnic site and hike inland Sirkelvlei along the ridge. The path then takes us across the peninsula a higher rocky path the gate and then the lookout over Smitswinkels Bay where the cars will be. Meet at the Total garage parking in Glencairn at 09:15 consolidate cars or inside the Cape Point gate at 10:00. Bring your Wildcard or money. SILVERMINE - AMPHITHEATRE CIRCUIT Hike from parking area along Steenberg Ridge, around the reservoir on the amphitheatre path back car park. Meet at Silvermine Reservoir parking. Bring Wild card & ID or R 40 pp entrance fee. SILVERMINE, FOUR PEAKS A full days hiking around the southern Silvermine Reserve. Hike the p of Higher Steenberg Peak, Muizenberg Peak, St James Peak and Kalk Bay Peak. Great views of the southern peninsula. Includes boulder hopping up the ravine until we reach the foot of the waterfall where we may see disas. A good spot for tea, so bring yours! LION'S HEAD Join us for the 32nd anniversary of the Club, with the annual hike up Lions Head. We will ascend via the old club bench, chains, staples, ladders for celebrary champagne on p. Bring water, orange juice, snacks and camera. Phone first if you wish bring children. ORANGEKLOOF RIVER WALK Walk on the ring road and paths in this beautiful, pristine area of the Peninsula. Bring snack and water. MUST BOOK, numbers limited by TMNP. HELDERBERG TRAVERSE A circular hike which starts from the carpark and goes up Disa Gorge, then traverses along the south side of the mountain and returns the carpark on a different path.entry fee for a vehicle is. Return Gifkommetjie along the coast and up the ridge the parking area. Meet at Total Garage Glencairn share transport. Bring Wild card and ID or R 110 per Person BUCHUKLOOF Hike from Nuweberg Forest Station up the jeep track, turning off along the 'Blind' route and rejoining the jeep track the turnoff Buchukloof. Then across the Atlantic side and on Cape of Good Hope via Neptune's dairy. We ascend the cliffp and then descend Diaz beach and return the cars. Meet at the Total garage parking in Glencairn at 09:15 consolidate cars or inside the Cape Point gate at 10:00. Bring wildcard or money. We will return via the beautiful Spes Bona forest. EAGLES NEST A scramble the p see the dams. Up Cecila Ridge past Eagles Nest and via Contantia corner the p, past Camel Rock and down the dam, past the huts and on another dam or two. R420 R Distance: 30km Fitness: Average Distance: 15km :30 Tokai forest Arboretum car park SILVERMINE - RIVER WALK TO TOKAI FOREST ARBORETUM car shuttle Silvermine Dam carpark. cool and shady walk along the Silvermine river and then join up with level 5 jeep track taking us Tokai forest. 6 Brian Ford KOGELBERG TRAIL A full days hiking in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve near Kleinmond. From the Oudebosch office we hike up the Oudebosch river, around Platberg Platbos and Louwsbos, then down the Louws river the Palmiet river. After spping for a much deserved swim we hike down the Palmiet river back the Oudebosch office. This is not a difficult hike but it is looong! We will organize a meeting place share lifts and it will be an early start and a late finish. Bring Wildcard or money for permit. Car shuffle required TBA CONSTANTIA NEK TO EAST FORT VIA VLAKKENBERG Hike from Constantia Nek Vlakkenberg Nek on East Fort via Hoerikwaggo Trail. Fantastic views & vegetation with plenty of bird life. Compulsory sundowner at Constantia Nek afterwards! We will be walking at a brisk pace WOODCLIFFE CAVE TRAILS Woodcliffe is a cattle farm extending in the upper slopes of the southern Drakensberg in the north Eastern Cape and is situated 22 km from Maclear. We have booked 5 nights accommodation for 8 people at the farm (self catering). Camping is also available. We will spend 4 days exploring the many walks in the area with a possible one night in the berg at Tok's Cave for those interested in exploring further. Tok's Cave is 5 km from the farm house accommodation. See for further information. Return via Mountain Zebra National Park and Graaff-Reinet.
