Beautiful views over Camps Bay and Oudekraal CONSTANTIABERG VIA TOKAI LOOKOUT Hike up Constantiaberg via Tokai Lookout and down Hout Bay side the p of Blackburn and back the dam. Rain cancels SUNBIRD CENTRE WALK Walk from the Sunbird Centre past the Golf Course through Fish Hoek and back. Bring money for ice cream. Rain cancels. CONSTANTIABERG CIRCUIT A long walk circumnavigate Constantiaberg.We will head out Blackburn ravine, descend the conur path, pass the Manganese Mine the saddle. Along jeep track through upper Tokai Forest, then up Elephants Eye path back dam. Bring water, lunch and be prepared for all weather conditions. Bring Wildcard or pay OPPELSKOP Hike the upper conur path via the Platteklip Gorge route and continue up the saddle Saddle Rock and then along the Oppelskop Ridge the ruins. Continue East and join the Lower Traverse back Platteklip and the cars. GHOST TOWN AMBLE Refer P45 of 's book. Starting from Red Hill Road hike Kleinplaas Dam and may make an optional deur the p of Grootkop. Having explored Kleinplaas Dam hike down an old ghost wn at Brooklands, a remnant of the Apartheid Era and walk around the ruins and sad relics of the past. Bring water, tea and lunch. Distance: 15km Easy scramble 09h00 at Cnr. Red Hill Rd and Klawer Valley Rd and park under the large bluegum trees or meet at the Blue RouteTokai Pick n Pay Parking Area at 08h00 share transport and petrol. 15/06/2013 Julyan Symons :00 Theresa ave Camps Bay PENNYS CAVE n 1799 Joshua Penny (pressganged in the Royal Navy) deserted in Cape Town, and lived for 14 months on Table Mountain. We will walk up as close the cave he used as can be walked easily. 1

SILVERMINE - SPITZKOP Hike Spitzkop via a circular route with viewa of Noordhoek Valley. Rain cancels VLAKKENBERG FROM CONSTANTIA NEK A hike up from Constantia Nek East Fort near Hout Bay; steep initially but delightful views and easy walking through fynbos s known for it's great variety. A visit the manganese mine near the finish if time permits. Bring at least 2L water and lunch snacks etc. Car shuttle required. Silvermine non pay side : Gate 2 Silvermine : DASSIES KASTEEL TRAVERSE Route takes us around the base of Kleintuin Kop. The route up is a SCRAMBLE which traverses the rock bands.tea on p, with great views from the Kasteel, then down via Berties' Balcony. Rain cancels. Non members please phone convenor in advance CHAPMANS PEAK FROM SILVERMINE DAM We will start at the Silvermine dam and hike up the Noordhoek Peak route and branch left down the saddle and then up Chapmans Peak. We will descend wards Noordhoek Beach where the hike ends. A car shuffle is necessary. Bring entrance money or your Wild Card SILVERMINE CIRCUIT VIA WOLFKOP A pleasant circular walk from the car park, over the saddle near Wolfkop wards the installation, past Junction Pool, down Princes Kasteel waterfall and back along the jeep track the cars. Rain cancels. Money for car guard OUDEKRAAL RAVINE & GROOTKOP Hike along the Pipe Track and up Oudekraal Ravine Grootkop. An interesting route with great views. Return via Kasteelspoort or Woody Ravine. for times KLEINTUINKOP SILVERMINE Walk up Maiden Peak then Crassula Path on Kleintuinkop. Bring money for car guard. Rain cancels HELLS GATES An easy walk from Constantia Nek Orange Kloof along a circuit route, crossing no fewer than 7 ravines and then see a gem of a waterfall. The route is mostly on gravel road. The costs are for a donation the guide and permit. Note: Limit of 12 PEERS CAVE WANDER See P73 of 's book. Lunch at Tunnel Cave. Visit some ancient hisry where this cave became famous in 1927 after father and son team found artefacts and remains of human bodies dating back years. 4 10/08/ /08/2013 Anthony Sneath :00 BOTSWANA OKAVANGO DELTA TRAIL Botswana Okavango Delta Trail August Final arrangements have been made for this trail and the itinerary and costs are as follows: 10 The horse-riding has had be cancelled due very high costs. It has been replaced by more affordable game-viewing from safari vehicles; and we now have kayaking, hiking and game-viewing as the three activities. Horse riding can be added before or after the Safari privately for those interested The dates and itinerary are :- 12th 13th & 14th August : kayaking, fishing and walking in Moremi etc ( ; 14th 15th & 16th August : game-viewing and walking in Khwai. We will arrive at Maun on the 11th and overnight there. VLAKKENBERG FROM PRICE DRIVE Starting at Price Drive, the hike ascends steeply initially, but worth it for the great views from the p of Vlakkenberg.. The spring fynbos should be good, also the views of Orange Kloof and surrounds. Rain cancels, phone if uncertain. RIGHT FACE/ARROW FACE TRAVERSE Difficult Hike Totally spectacular route across Africa Face. Very exposed in some places. As I am not as fit as I was, this will be done at a gentle pace, and is an ideal opporunity for the slightly faint-hearted do this route. Lunch at the ledge below the cableway, and then down India Venster JUDAS PEAK Steep walk from Ruyterplaats area up a view point below the peak. CECELIA FOREST RAMBLE A long but pretty and rewarding hike. After the initial steep ascend the p/hoerikwaggo huts, it is relatively flat. Along the front overlooking Kirstenbosch, through a magical forest the back dams, via the museum,a peep over the Atlantic side and across a dam wall back on the road and return via a different route. Ablutions with hot showers. Maybe there will be still be snow on the Matroosberg. We will do day walks and climb the Botterboom Tafelberg. Interesting walk back the cars including the old railway tunnels and bridges with great views. Slackpacking included so just daypacks needed. Cost is R300 per person which includes the train ride, accommodation, hiking and slackpacking. Contact for booking. Further details follow closer the time. If the weather is not good the farmer is happy for us postpone until the following weekend, ie 06/09/ /09/2013. One day's leave needed GIFKOMMETJIE, HOEK VAN BOBBEJAAN Start from Gifkommetjie area, walk Hoek van Bobbejaan via the inland route. Return Gifkommetjie along the coast and up the ridge the area.this is a lovely inland walk with views ending with an interesting coastal walk. Bring your Wild Card or entrance fee.gifkommetjie is off the circular drive KOGELBERG - LEOPARD'S GORGE Starting at Oudebosch in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, ascend the Oudebosch river valley the p of Leopard's Gorge, where the waterfall plunges in Leopard's Kloof and there are excellent views of Betty's Bay. Descend Harold Porter Botanical Gardens via the gorge path. Car shuttle required. Cell SIMONSTOWN HISTORICAL WALK & NAVAL MUSEUM Start at the Simonswn Railway Station taking in some fascinating Dutch, British and South African hisry along the way. The museum is fascinating. EASTFORT TO SKYLINE Difficult Hike A long hike marvel at the magnificent views over Hout Bay. Starting at East Fort on Chapmans Peak Drive we climb up Blackburn Ravine the viewing platform. From here we walk along the skyline path Noordhoek Peak for lunch then back along the conur path East Fort. Rain cancels AGATHA'S GULLY A relatively new, very scenic route on Trails Club program! The Gully was damaged by a rock-fall some seasons ago and became off-limits. Now the rocks are more settled but care is required on some slopes.the fynbos is re-establising itself. Route up is past Eagles' Nest then winds above Orange kloof for some distance before the scramble up Agatha's Gully. Then up the skyline joining the Constantia Corner path down. Rain cancels. After early tea, we will wind our way across Rhodes Drive and proceed De Hell, one of the Constantia greenbelts. Rain cancels. From there, hike around Abdullah's Cave for tea. Lunch on Muizenberg Peak then back Boyes Drive. CEDERBERG CRACKS & MALTESE CROSS Weekend at Sanddrif resort, 250k from CT in well appointed cottages or camping. On Sat hike Wolfberg Cracks (Arch optional); on Sun hike Maltese Cross. Maybe just do your own thing. More details and costs follow. Contact if you are interested KIRSTENBOSCH BREAKFAST WALK Take a brisk, easy walk around Kirstenbosch. Bring picnic lunch and money for entrance fee. CONSTANTIABERG VIA ELEPHANTS EYE Starting at the dam we will hike around the dam and along the ridge and up the Elephants Eye path the p of Constantiaberg. We will descend the p of Blackburn Ravine and return the start where we can swim if the weather is suitable. Bring entrance money or your Wild Card CONTOUR PATH KLOOF NECK CNR TO CECELIA FOREST A long day, but worth it for the views and waterfalls along the way. Car shuffle necessary. Rain cancels. TOKAI FOREST RAMBLE Walk up the river, turn right and see where it takes us. Bring water and tea snack. Rain cancels SCARBOROUGH GROOTKOP Hike up the sea side of the Scarborough mountains, arriving at Grootkop for a late tea and returning via Platberg. Enjoy a afternoon braai at Geoff Tinker's Scarborough home make the out-of-wn journey worthwhile. 7 26/10/ /10/ /12/2013 Tuesday 07/01/ /02/ /02/ /04/2014 Monday 21/04/2014 Anthony Sneath : for meeting options 15: LLANDUDNO SANDY BAY VIA SUNSET ROCKS See p82 of 's book for details Start at Llandudno Beach Parking.The picturesque path from Llundudno takes us next the ocean and winds through milkwood trees, wild olives, fine ironwoods, camphor bush and massive granite slabs the beautiful beach, Sandy Bay. Here, being a nudist beach we can decide swim either with or without a costume, so be warned, there may be some exposure! ( which can be bypassed) even though the gradient is flat and easy SUIKERBOSSIE CIRCUIT Difficult Hike A long walk from the Suikerbossie Restaurant in an easterly direction below Geelklip Buttress Myburghs Waterfall ravine. The route goes up the ravine, then across the p, past Judas Peak, and down via the Llandudno Ravine Meet at Suikerbossie Restaurant car park at 08h30. Parking on the verge near the sne pillars of the Ruyterplaats Estate. Contact convener for more information. Rain cancels GARDEN ROUTE/WILDERNESS/HARKEVILLE & NEW YEAR SPECIAL This trip is from 29th December 7th January, depending on whether you do the Harkeville trail or not. We will travel up Wilderness on 29th December, where we will stay for 4 nights at the Wilderness Fairy Knowe backpackers, in various accomodation options. We will spend the days doing the many hiking options in that area or canoeing or just relaxing. New Year will be spent here. Cost here is between R550 and R750 per person for the 4 nights, depending on accomodation options. Next we travel through Harkeville Forest Lodge, where we stay from the 2nd January the 5th January. We will hike in Natures Valley and also do the Robberg hike at Plettenberg Bay. Cost here is R550 per person for the 3 nights, which includes breakfast. We have booked the Harkeville overnight trail for 12 people, leaving on the morning of the 5th January and finishing on the 6th and which costs R250 per person (slightly cheaper with a wild card). Accomodation at the Lodge can be extended for those who are not doing the trail and who want stay longer. So overall the cost per person will be between R1100 and R1300 per person, excluding the trail. Obviously travelling costs and food are extra. WILD COAST- PORT ST JOHNS TO HOLE-IN-THE-WALL Hike from Port St Johns Hole-In-The-Wall for five days, up hills, through the villages, through unspoilt indigenous forest. You will sleep in village-based accommodation run by the local people but in a separate hut or rondavel with clean shower and ilet (bedding, dinner and breakfast included), or you can camp. You will also learn a little bit of Xhosa and experience the culture of the Xhosa and Pondo people. The Guide will show you local plants and tell you about their medicinal purposes. EASTER 2014 AT KUNJE Spend 4 days in the Kouebokkeveld on the Kunje farm, where the club has stayed before. Hike up the p of Geelberg for great views and interesting rock formations, maybe this time the Sandfontein arch or just wander around the farm orchards or just relax in beautiful surroundings. Travel up early on Good avoid the heavy traffic. Phone for more details or book your place. Day 1: Climb over Potberg and stay at Cupidos Kraal hut. Day 2: Hike down Noetsie Bay. Day 3: along the coast via Stinkgat (swimming) Hamerkop. Day 4: along the coast Vaalkrans. Day 5: along the beach Koppie Alleen. Lots of whales from July November. See for further details. Portage service available.
