Day 1: Start at Port Alfred Eastern Beach Milkwood hut on Rufane Farm (±8,6km). Day 2: Rufane Farm Riet River Tree Houses (±13,67km). Day 3: Tree Houses Three Sisters (±6,97km). Day 4: Three Sisters Kleinemonde West River mouth (±2.9 km) then 9 km paddle & ±3 km hike Lily Pad Hut. Reaching Nyala Valley Game Reserve you shoulder your backpacks for the hike the overnight hut, where you can enjoy the beauty of the reserve, looking out for nyala, giraffe, impala, zebra, wildebeest, etc. The overnight hut is set in an indigenous forest. Day 5: Lily Pad Hut Sne Cottage (3 km hike & 8 km paddle back river mouth) plus ±10km hike cottage. Day 6: Sne Cottage Fish River Mouth (±14,34km). Bring tea and water. Wild/Green card or pay cash at the gate CAPE POINT- GIFKOMMETJIE TO CAPE POINT Walk from Gifkommetjie via Platboom and Neptune's Dairy along the Atlantic coast the Cape of Good Hope and ascend the cliffs past Dias Beach Cape Point. Spectacular views from the cliffs. Car shuttle required. Wild/Green card & ID or R76 & SA ID for entrance fee. Foreigners pay more! Meet at Glencairn Spar at 08:15 share transport or at Gifkommetjie parking at 09:00. SILVERMINE- BOKKOP & SILVERMINE RIVER Walk south from the carpark at the entrance along the jeep track and then turn west on a path that goes past Bokkop all the way the Noordhoek Peak jeep track where we turn north the Silvermine dam, then around the dam. After tea, the hike goes east down the Silvermine River return the carpark. The hike will be done at a moderate pace. Entry Silvermine is free with a Wild/Green card or pay the entry fee. Beautiful 360 degree view of the whole peninsula below. On a clear day you can see forever! Return the cars the same way. Optional lunch in Hout Bay after the hike. KOGELBERG- PALMIET RIVER Easy hike along the river swimming pool and back. Best fynbos in the Cape! Bring costume and money for permit and tea afterwards. Hike suitable for beginners. BUCHUKLOOF - LOWER SECTION Hike from Nuweberg Forest Station up a jeep track in the mountains, with stunning views, some lovely pools and waterfalls. Lots of time for relaxing and swimming at the pools. Bad weather cancels. Bring your Wild Card or money for the permit and coffee and cake afterwards. After tea we will descend the Cork Forest for our return trip. Bring a snack/tea & water. TABLE MTN- CONSTANTIA NEK TO WATERWORKS MUSEUM & AQUADUCT Hike from Constantia Nek the Waterworks museum then via the Aquaduct, the p of Skelen Gorge & Nursery Ravine the Overseer's cottage. A medium pace will be maintained. Return on the jeep track Constantia Nek. CAPE POINT- DA GAMA PEAK CIRCULAR We start at Cape Point parking and hike around Da Gama Peak past Rooikrans and then across the Atlantic side. Hike past Neptunes Dairy the Cape of Good Hope. Hike along the ridge accompanied by magnificent views back Cape Point. Bring your Wild/ Green card & ID or entrance fee of R76 & SA ID. Foreiners pay much more! Meet at the Glencairn Spar parking at 08:30 am share transport or inside the gate at 09:00 am. SILVERMINE- SUNBIRD CENTRE TO THE WATERFALL Hike along the attractive Silvermine River's edge and then head up the mountain wards Maiden Peak and traverse along the road until the waterfall where we will sp for tea. Return down the same route. ELANDSPAD Hike up the Elandspad river, first along the side of the valley and boulder hopping in the rive bed. Not for beginners. A long day. Wildcard numbers required for booking the permit, or pay the fee of R50. Go up the back way past Paradise Cottage (or what is left of it), up the side fence, up the road in the forest and across the stream where we will have tea. Circle round and back cars Bring car guard R5, snack and water. TABLE MTN- GROOTKOP FROM LLANDUDNO RAVINE Hike up from Ruyterplaats Eureka Face and scramble ups Lekkerwater Gully the p of Table Mountain, then heading north east on the path past Judas Peak until the turnoff Grootkop (857 m) where there is a scamble the p. SILVERMINE- STEENBERG RIDGE TO BLACKBURN LOOKOUT Walk along the ridge then up the road across the old burnout lookout at Blackburn Ravine for tea. Wonderful views over Hout Bay. Return the carpark. Bring tea & snack. Free entry with your Wild/Green card & ID or pay R50 entry fee. HAPPY VALLEY- WIT RIVER Hike from Eerste Tol along the path Happy Valley, joining the jeep track and then descending the Wit River at the Limietberg hut or closer the weir. Swim at the beautiful pool below the weir and return via the Wit River gorge Eerste Tol. Lots of boulder hopping in the river. CONSTANTIA- ALPHEN TRAIL-CECILIA- KLAASENBOSCH TRAIL From Alphen Drive, walk up the Greenbelt of the Diep River up Southern Cross Drive and Rhodes Drive, then in Cecilia Plantation, heading up the Old Rhodes Drive, with tea by the river and benches, and then descend Cecilia carpark and return via the Klaasenbosch and Alphen Trails. HELDERBERG TRAVERSE A circular hike which starts from the carpark and goes up Disa Gorge, then traverses along the south side of the mountain and returns the carpark on a different path. Entry is R15 per vehicle plus per person.. mervyn.henderson@gmail.com or phone GROOTVADERSBOS- BUSHBUCK & GRYSBOK TRAILS Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is situated in the Langeberg, about 22 km northwest of Heidelberg, and comprises 250ha of indigenous forest. Hike the Bushbuck (10 km) and Grysbok (15 km) trails in indigenous forest and mountain fynbos. The cabins are all 3/4-sleepers, with two bedrooms, an inside braai area, kitchen, lounge with fireplace and an outside braai area. Kitchens are fully equipped with an electric fridge, freezer, microwave, aster and gas sve with four burners. Bedding and wels are provided. SILVERMINE- SILVERMINE RIVER & BOKKOP Walk from carpark at the entrance Silvermine up the Silvermine River the reservoir, then around the reservoir and along the Noordhoek Peak road, branching off the east on a path that goes past Bokkop before turning north return the carpark. Entry free with a Wild/Green card and ID, or pay R50 fee enter. Mostly on the conur with 13/03/19 30/03/19 some steep ups and downs. Lovely views of the southern Peninsula across False Bay. Drinks & eats at the Rhodes Memorial Cafe. Wonderful views. Bring tea and water and car guard money. CAPE POINT- CAPE OF GOOD HOPE HIKING R335 R395 TRAIL Only 1 place left 12 Distance: 34km The trail is over 2 days and one night and follows a circular route. The trail begins and ends at the Cape Point entrance, where there is secure parking available. The trail goes through some of the most pristine wilderness of the reserve, cutting through plains of fynbos and over isolated beaches, populated only by the occasional ostrich or baboon. Wildlife, though skittish, is often seen on the route, and dynamic plant and birdlife abound. On we hike down the False Bay (Eastern) side, ending at the beautiful Rooikrans cottages, where cutlery and crockery are provided. Wood for the braai facilities can be pre-ordered at the entrance gate and delivered the cottage by the time of your arrival. There is also a two-plate gas sve, solar powered lighting and showers in the huts. You must bring your own bedding. On we hike over the western shores and back the gate. Depending on weather conditions, the trail may be hiked in the reverse direction. A slackpacking service at an additional cost of R207,00 for 6 bags/items or less per hut. Thereafter it is R71.00 per bag/item over and above 6 bags/items, payable at the Main Gate (cost subject change). If you have a valid Wild Card you do not pay the daily conservation/entry fees. Continue on a new path up the 08/04/19 13/04/19 p of Duitskop Peak (1407 m) and descend Breakfast Rock and back the cars. STANFORD- WATCHTOWER PEAK, VOGELGAT & COASTAL HIKE R1420 R Distance: 40km We will be based at Phillipskop for 4 days & nights do the following hikes: - Watchwer Peak Trail : hike from Botrivier. The Watchwer 01/02/19 Peak Trail takes one right the p of the highest peak of this mountain range. It's peak 842 m offers views sea, Sir Lowry's Pass, Theewaterskloof dam, Riviersonderend mts.etc. A relatively easy day's hike! - Vogelgat Private Nature Reserve: hike in this beautiful mountain reserve. Route be determined. - Beach walk near Pearly Beach: hike along the coast Pearly Beach Reserve - Quoin Point Reserve: possible explorary walk - Phillipskop: a short walk in the morning before leaving for home. Accommodation in chalets Restio and Erica each consists of fully equipped 3 twin bedded rooms, one doubled bed with en suite, and one separate bathroom and shower; a large open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room. We take the path all along the Silvermine River, cross over Ou Kaapse Weg and head for the waterfall, bypass the Sunbird Centre and before the bridge take a path the right and walk across the dunes, along the edge of Clovelly Golf Course and the wetlands and back the cars. CEDERBERG- HEUNINGVLEI HIKES This magnificent area of the northern Cederberg has many excellent hikes, interesting rock formations, lovely views and beautiful fynbos, and few people! Drive Heuningvlei and stay at the backpackers ( We will hike the Biedouw walk and Circular Route Krakadouw Pass as well as visiting Bergkraal hike the Circular walk via Boointjieskloof where there are wonderful pools have a swim. Only a few places left. 5 day/4 night kayak safari with Kayaktive Adventure Safaris from August Kayative paddling safari: Guests set off in kayaks around 9.30 am & kayak until lunch, around 1 pm, spping game view along the way. After lunch, we usually paddle until around 4 pm when we sp, set up camp and relax a bit before going on an evening walk of about an hour and half, returning camp shower and relax while dinner is cooked and served. Vegetarians, vegans and those with allergies and dietary restrictions are catered for if informed when the booking is made. The safari is inclusive of all food, some soft drinks and beers, dinner wine, snacks, sweets, drinking water and National Park and/or Community Controlled Wildlife Management Area fees. Tsunami 125 single seat kayaks are supplied. A morboat travels with the group carrying all equipment, food, inverters and solar panels for charging batteries, and the fridge/ freezer, etc. The morboat assists as a deterrent and for protection if hippos and crocodiles are encountered, responding any situation that may develop. First aid kits and satellite communications are carried. Accommodation: 2 man tents: 2,1m x 2,1m. Bedrolls with mattress, cotn sheet, duvet, pillow and extra blankets in winter. Kwai safari: There is a large, central luxurious and comfortable dining/entertainment/kitchen tent and surrounding accommodation tents, hot bush-style showers and long-drop ilets. Note that the camp is unfenced and curious elephants occasionally stroll through the campsite area. The days will be spent in the game-viewing vehicles in an area with good rivers and water generally, so there is a lot of game, including wild dogs the big 5 except rhino. Itinerary: Sat 10th: Arrive Maun SA Airlink 1:05 pm and transfer The Bridge backpackers overnight Sun 11th: Depart from Maun around 8.30 am. Morboat aprox. 110 km up Boro River through Community Controlled wildlife Management Area (CCWMA) Ng.32 Xaxaba, arriving aprox. 1pm. Have lunch, Spend afternoon morboat in Moremi Wildlife Reserve for game / bird viewing. Get back camp, Xaxaba in evening. Mon 12th: Breakfast around 7.30 am. Pack camp and start kayak, Kayak approx.30 km. downstream back ward Maun, Lunch en-route, arrive camp Moporota around 4pm. Set up camp, evening game walk Tues 13th: Wake around 5.30 am, Tea/Coffee, biscuits, go for game walk back in camp around 8 am, breakfast, Kayak approx.25 km, lunch en-route, arrive camp Loop around 4 pm. Set up camp, evening walk Wed 14th: Same as previous day kayak approx. 30 km. Arrive camp Chonomo around 4 pm. Thurs 15th - Sun 18th: Same kayak approx. 25km Buffalo fence (border of CCWMA) about 3 pm, Morboat back Maun, arriving around 3.30pm. Transfer Khwai, 125 km from Maun. Fri 16th & Sat 17th: Khwai Sun 18th: Transfer Maun airport & depart CT SA Airlink approx. 13:35 pm Bookings: Call Ant. Cost: R20 000,00 per person is an estimate only. Deposit: approximately R3700,00 per person, depending on the prevailing rate of exchange, payable TCSA after confirmation of an available space on the safari. NOTE: There is an element of risk on safari. As is normal for travel a foreign country, people participating in the safari are advised make their own arrangements mitigate the risks involved through the purchase of appropriate travel insurance that covers expenses that may be incurred due cancellation and curtailment, personal accident and emergency medical and related expenses, travel delay, missed connection and missed event that might arise during the period of the safari.
