2 Park and Recreation Information St. Cloud is a community committed to quality living. This commitment has helped to create our extensive parks and recreation system. St. Cloud offers a wonderful network of regional, community and neighborhood parks, natural areas and open spaces, pathways and trails, recreational facilities, and year-round appeal. Go take a walk or bike ride alongside our Mississippi River, play a round of disc golf, sign up for a program offering, watch the leaves change colors in the gardens or ice skate around Lake George. In our busy lives, it s easy to forget that taking time to enjoy each day is so important to our personal health and wellness. Scott Zlotnik, Park and Recreation Director Whitney Gym Renovation Update We are excited to announce that the has gone through a major renovation! In 2017, we replaced the Whitney roof and installed solar panels. Spring 2018, the Whitney Gym floor was sanded down to the original wood, stained and refinished with new court lines. Additional updates include replacing the gym curtains and a fresh coat of paint on the gym walls. The hosts many events, tournaments, leagues, youth and adult programs, open gym, walking track, fitness room and much more for all ages. Stop in to the Whitney Recreation Center and try out our renovated facility as our guest for a FREE oneday pass during the month of September. We look forward to seeing you! Participants who live outside the city limits of the City of St. Cloud are asked to contribute to these costs through Non-Resident Fees. Non-Resident Fees equal 20% of the fee, prior to sales tax. 3 Aquatics/Lake George Complex St. Cloud Aquatics City of St. Cloud Park and Recreation and District 742 Community Education have a long-standing collaboration in Community Aquatics. Together we provide high-quality programs such as preschool swim lessons, school age swim lessons, private lessons and American Red Cross trainings. The indoor facility has two rooms available, each with capacity for up to 40 with numerous set up options; Wi-Fi internet connection is available. The multifunctional facility is available for rental Mon-Sun, 8am-10pm (closed holidays). Lake George Preschool Room (ages 0-5) Time to play! The spine-tingling event includes trick or treat stations, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, face painting, hayrides and so much more. New this year: get lost in the hay maze or bust a move at the screamin dance party on the mainstage with DJ Monster Bash Mash. Fun is lurking around every corner during this FREE, safe, family-friendly event! Winter Wonderland Santa and Mrs. Claus have taken time off from their busy schedule to join you and your family for a winter celebration on Saturday, December 8th from 1-4pm at the Lake George Municipal Complex. Pickleball Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, and is played with a hard-composite paddle and whiffle ball. People of all ages are getting a great workout playing pickleball at the. Beginners (3.0 and below) through advanced (3.5 and above) players are finding that Pickleball offers an aerobic workout and a great way to meet new people! The St. Cloud area currently features 18 outdoor pickleball courts, plus 6 indoor courts at the. Northern Paddles Northern Paddles Pickleball Club is a central Minnesota Pickleball Club actively promoting the sport of pickleball. Participants will be learning the fundamental skills and basics of match play. $15.00 Grade 1-3 Sa 11/17-12/ am Grade 4-6 Sa 11/17-12/8 10:15-11:15 am Winter Youth Volleyball St. Cloud Park & Recreation and Granite City Juniors Volleyball are teaming up to offer Youth Volleyball for kids in grades 3-6. 6 Whitney Memorial Park/Rentals St. Cloud Park and Recreation s 20th Annual Toys For Tots Drive Each holiday season St. Cloud Parks & Recreation assists the local Marine Corp League in the collection of toys for children in our community. Since 1998, we have collected over 17,000 toys and $13,000 towards the program. The and Lake George Municipal Complex will be drop off sites. Whitney Memorial Park Spanning 142 acres along the scenic Sauk River, Whitney Park is the sports headquarters of the St. Cloud Area. Whitney Sports Complex can host a wide variety of sporting events including Soccer, Softball, Baseball, Lacrosse, and Ultimate Frisbee. The complex consists of eight slow pitch softball fields, two fast pitch fields, two baseball fields, 8 soccer fields and a tennis court. Circling the park, Whitney offers a 1.5-mile paved trail. Whitney Memorial Park Rental Host a baseball/softball tournament, soccer practice or 5k walk/run at Whitney Memorial Park. All organized sports or walks/runs are required to have a permit. Riverside and Calvary offer sledding hills available for public use. Riverside Park also offers one 2.5k loop ski trail with both flat and rolling hill terrain, groomed for skating and classical skiing. 8 Munsinger and Clemens Gardens Munsinger and Clemens Gardens Weddings and Photography Looking for an outdoor venue for your wedding or photo session? Check out the Munsinger Gardens Special Events Area, which holds up to 50 participants and also offers a wonderful backdrop for your wedding portraits. Munsinger and Clemens Gardens Located on the corner of University Drive and Kilian Boulevard, visitors can explore over 20 acres of world-class gardens, plant collections, and historic hardscape along the Mississippi River. Open daily throughout the season from 6am-10pm; free admission. Please note: dogs are not allowed in Munsinger and Clemens Gardens. Contributions to support the Gardens are gratefully accepted. To donate to Friends of the Gardens, please visit: Munsinger Gardens is located along the Mississippi River and showcases the achievements of the Works Progress Administration of the 1930 s in a peaceful and tranquil cottage-style garden. Shade-loving plants thrive under the tall pine and oak trees of this forested location. Features include: ponds and fountains, historic cabin, special events and picnic areas, thousands of annual bedding plants and perennials, resident peacocks, swings, benches, and a gazebo overlooking the Mississippi River. Ceremonies at the Special Events Area, as well as photography permits for both Gardens, are scheduled between late-may and mid-october on weekdays between 4pm and 7pm, Saturdays at 11am, 2pm, and 5pm, and on Sundays at 10am. Reservations are still being taken for and we will begin taking 2020 reservations on January 1, We now also offer Off-Season Photography permits for Munsinger Gardens, in addition to the seasonal May through October Photography Permits. For $25 fee (plus tax), you can now take your fall or winter portraits in the Gardens! Photography in the Gardens 2018 Photo Contest Photographers! Start snapping those photos for entry into this area photo contest, sponsored by Munsinger Clemens Botanical Society. Photos will be judged in two categories: Landscapes (garden scenery) and Hardscapes (decorative features in the Gardens), and in both youth and adult age groups. Photographs must be taken between Jan 1-Nov 2, Any visitor to the Gardens is eligible to enter. Please visit for rules, submission form and more information. Clemens Gardens was developed in 1986 as a gift of love from Bill Clemens to his wife, Virginia. This area features six gardens: Virginia Clemens Rose Garden, Rest Area Garden, Formal Garden, White Garden, Perennial Garden, and Treillage Garden. Stroll along the red-brick walkways, make a wish in a fountain, or visit the gift shop and relax with refreshments on the deck or on a bench in one of the gardens. Features include: five fountains, including the 24 foot tall Renaissance Fountain with Cranes, over 1,000 roses, uniform garden design with thousands of sun-loving annual bedding plants and perennials, and a 100 foot long treillage with a 20 foot cast iron arbor dome.
