1 City Manager Briefing Report November 2016 Eric M. Soroka, ICMA-CM City Manager This report is prepared in order to inform the City Commission of the status of major projects and ongoing matters. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Bike Share Program The bike share program usage continues to be higher than anticipated as 936 trips were taken since this service went on line. City of Excellence School Highlights The ACES Green Team was awarded a grant from Fairchild Gardens to purchase rain barrels. The barrels will be used for students to pour unfinished water into them. This will make the plastic bottles recycle ready and the water can be used in the garden. The ACES Volleyball team finished IAL League runner-ups for the first time in school history! ACES Eagles Girls Basketball team made it to the IAL finals. ACES collected boxes for the Samaritan s Purse project. Over 700 boxes filled with nonperishable items will be donated for distribution to those less fortunate. ACES families donated $3,000 for the victims of the hurricane in Haiti. 6th 8th grade students attended the Fushu Daiko (Japanese Spirit Drummers) at the Arts and Cultural Center. Fifth grade students traveled to Johnathan Dickenson Park on an eco-field trip. Students hiked, canoed and visited a sea turtle rehabilitation center. Fourth grade students visited Saint Augustine where they learned about Florida history by visiting historic sites. City Manager Briefing Report
2 Gulfstream Conditional Use and Development Agreement Renewal At the October Workshop Meeting, the City Commission gave authorization for the City Manager to pursue the required actions to acquire two acres of property just west of Waterways Park based on the conditions outlined at the meeting. Founders Day Over 8,300 attended our annual Founders Day events on November 13, Movie Night Movie Night this month featuring Finding Dory saw our second largest crowd for a movie night at 1,456. Police Department Statistics & Highlights Monthly Crime Overview Crimes from September 2016 to October 2016 that increased: Robbery up by 6; Aggravated Assault up by 1; Burglary up by 9. Crimes from September 2016 to October 2016 that decreased Simple Assault down by 3; Larceny down by 51; Theft-Auto down by 2. Crimes from September 2016 to October 2016 that remained the same are: Aggravated Stalking. City Manager Briefing Report 2
3 Calls for service for October 2015 compared to October 2016 decreased by 87 service calls. The Officer of the month was Officer Daniel Marti. City Manager Briefing Report 3
4 Green Market The Green Market kicked off as part of Founders Day and based on feedback from the community it was a big success with many good vendors. The following week, 541 visited the Green Market. Due to a variety of reasons the number of vendors was less the previous week. 9 Major Capital Improvement Projects Status Report NE 29th Place 95% Complete NE 191 st Drainage & Roadway Improvements Due to the significant increase in traffic volume expected during the holiday season, and portions of the roadway will need to be closed to allow construction and storage of equipment, the Notice to Proceed will be after the first of the New Year. Country Club Drive Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Signs The bid was awarded at the October Commission Meeting. Permits have been submitted to the County for approval. NE 213 th Seawall Improvements The Notice of Award was and the contractor has accepted and provided required insurance and bonding documents. Due to the lead time needed for the pile jacket material, construction will not commence until December This project has a 360 calendar day contract time frame. NE 27th Ave, NE 28th Court, NE 30th Ave and NE 209th Road Resurfacing Plans will be ready to advertise for bids by February 1, NE 30th Avenue Lighting Improvements Plans will be ready to advertise for bids by January 9, LED Lighting Retrofit The electrical consultant is reviewing acceptable LED fixtures that can directly replace the existing metal halide fixtures. This is required to prevent the City from having to install additional pole and fixtures to address the illumination possibly lost by using typical LED fixtures. City Manager Briefing Report 9
