1 ALTRINCHAM & DISTRICT RAMBLING CLUB ( JULY CIRCULAR All walks meet at Altrincham Station car park at rear of station. When submitting a walk indicate the transport mileage from Altrincham Station to the start of the walk (one way only). The cost will be calculated automatically. 2. The decision to cancel or change a walk is taken at Altrincham. 3. Dogs (on a lead at all times) will only be taken on a walk with prior permission of the leader. 4. Addresses of organisers are in the Membership Card. Cheques to be made out to Altrincham Rambling Club. 5. It is a condition of our insurance that the names of all walk participants be recorded. The list should then be passed to the relevant walks organiser. 6. The Club will not be responsible for any personal injury or loss or damage to personal property 7. It is the responsibility of any Club Member who introduces a guest to a walk to ensure that their guest has read the document Guidelines for Members taking part in Walks Next Year s Club Holiday from 5 th to 9 th April 2017 We are going to the Regina Hotel, Torquay, again with Alfa Tours, at a cost of 214 pp. An Application Form and Insurance Waiver Form is attached to this Circular which must be returned to John Drinkwater by 13 th August Further copies can be obtained by down-loading from the Documentation Section of the Members Area the Club Website or directly from John ( ). 60th Anniversary Celebrations Programme Tickets are now available for both 60 th Anniversary social events from Derrick Hamer, , 3 Carlyn Avenue, Sale, M33 2EA, or Judy Bailey, , 17 Bow Lane, Bowdon, Altrincham, WA14 3BU ; 5 for Memorabilia Party on Sat 3 rd Sept. and 25 for the Dinner on Fri 23 rd Sept. Details This clockwise circuit to the south-east of Hathersage will call at Longshaw Lodge, White Edge Moor, White Edge, Eaglestone Flat, Curbar Edge, Froggatt Edge, Nether Padley, and Yancliff Wood. WEDNESDAY 6 th JULY Area LAMALOAD RESERVOIR Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 4.00 Leader(s) Ron Goodman, , and Frank Dockry, Park Cars Lamaload Car Park. GR SJ From Macclesfield take the A537 Buxton road after approximately 3.5 miles, turn left on a minor road signposted Saltersford & Goyt Valley. Car park is on the left 1.2 miles from the A537, where leaders will meet. Details Form car park to Chapel House Farm, then to Chest Hollow, up to Shining Tor and back to Lamaload Reservoir. Area WORSLEY WOODS Leave Miles Category 4 Transport 2.00 Leader(s) Brian Warburton Park Cars Dukes Drive Coach & Car Park (free), Monton Green, Eccles. GR Take M60. Leave at J11 (Peel Green, Eccles). Follow A57 (Liverpool Rd.) to New Lane (on left of A57). At its junction with Worsley Rd, it becomes B5211. Immediately after going under M62, turn right in to Parrin Lane (B5229). Continue for approx. ¾mile and car park is on left, just after canal basin. Details A figure eight walk, mainly the Bridgewater Canal and Worsley Woods, taking in some fine architecture most of which belonged to the Earl of Ellesmere and his heirs.

2 SUNDAY 10 th JULY Area AROUND HASLINGDEN GRANE Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 6.00 Leader(s) Peter and Susan Darby (Mob ) Park Cars Clough Head Visitor Centre. Toilets and Cafe available. GR SD752232, Post Code BB4 4AT. M60 to J18, M66, continue onto A56 and take the exit towards Haslingden, B6232. Turn left at Grane Road towards Darwen. The visitor centre is signposted and is about 2.5 miles on the right. Details Undulating with only one steep climb but sometimes rough underfoot. The walk is on paths of varying quality, through woods and across moorland, incorporating parts of the Rossendale Way. Calf Hey Reservoir, Great House, Causeway End, Hog Lowe Pike, Haslingden Grane, Pickup Bank. Area CARRBROOK, HOLLINGSWORTH MOOR Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 4.00 Leader(s) Brian Billington, , and Alan Gerrard (Mob ) Park Cars M67 to end, continue to traffic lights and turn left, then at the second set of traffic lights, turn right into B6175, signed Millbrook and Huddersfield. Travel 1.9 miles to mini island, with Raja Bros Express shop on the left. Turn right and travel to end. Car park on the left (supposed to open at 9a.m.), otherwise park at roadside. GR Where leader will meet. Details From car park over Buckton Moor, Stack Head Brow, Chew Hurdles, Ogden Clough, Higher Swineshaw Reservoir, Turf Pits and return to cars. WEDNESDAY 13 th JULY Area COACH TRIP TO ILKLEY Leaving The Downs at 8am with the usual pick-up points. A walk 10 Miles Cat 3/2 Leaders Ian & Josie Stenhouse A circular walk round Ilkley Moor, taking in the Cow and Calf, Twelve Apostles Stone Circle and Swastika Stone. More details on coach. B walk 7.5 Miles Cat 3 Leader Keith Leslie A circular walk up on to the Moor further details on coach. C walk 6 Miles Cat 4/3 Leaders Elsie & Dean Edwards From Ilkley we follow the River Wharfe to Addingham, where we cross the river, returning via Nesfield. Map and more details on the coach. At far end of town centre, the A56 bends left and passes under a railway bridge, The car park is on the left shortly afterwards. Details A walk to Helsby Hill, then round the back and over Frodsham Hill. Mostly woodland trails with a few steep but short climbs. SUNDAY 17 th JULY Area WORLD'S END & EGLWYSEG MOUNTAIN Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 8.00 Leader(s) Nigel Gartside (Mob ) Park Cars In front of, or in lane behind, Ponderosa Café / Motel on Horseshoe Pass summit. GR SJ M56 west, A483 Wrexham to exit at J4, A525 Ruthin, then left A5104, then left onto A542. Details Fron Llwyd, World's End, then Offa's Dyke Path on shoulder of Eglwyseg Mountain, then steep descent down and up to Glyn Cottages and Bryn-yr-Odin back to cars. Area AUDLEM Leave ¾ Miles Category 4 Transport 7.40 Leader(s) Brian Warburton Park Cars Cheshire St. Car Park, Audlem. GR Take M6 south. Leave at J16 and take A500 (right) to B5071 at Shavington. Turn left here. Continue through Wybunbury, cross A51 at Walgherton and go through Hatherton, turn left on to A529, through Hankelow and in to Audlem. The Car Park is on the right of A529 just before town centre. Details A figure of eight walk around Cheshire s most southerly small town, taking in short stretches of the Shropshire Union Canal.

3 WEDNESDAY 20 th JULY Area LONGDENDALE Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 5.00 Leader(s) Phil Worsley Park Cars Torside Visitor Centre P&D car park on the B6105 at GR SK Cost to be shared. Details Travelling clockwise from the car park this walk will initially be at low level and pass Valehouse Farm, Bottoms Reservoir and Tintwistle. Crossing the A628 we will then continue along Arnfield Lane before turning into open country to climb steadily to Lad's Leap at 1,547'. Contouring now above Highstone Rocks we will eventually descend steeply to Crowden and complete the walk via the Longdendale Trail. One long, steady climb, one short steep descent. Area BOLLINGTON/KERRIDGE Leave Miles Category 3 Transport 3.20 Leader(s) Heather Wykes Park Cars GR From A523, Poynton to Macclesfield road, take the B5090 or B5091 into Bollington. Continue through to pass under the arches for the Middlewood Way and then the Canal on Palmerston Street. Watch for the Spinners Arms to the right, where car park is on the left and where leader will meet. Details Bollington, Ingersley Vale to Rainow. From here there is a gradual climb to Kerridge Hill, then a downhill walk to Swanscoe Farms. Walking from here on is flat back into Bollington. SUNDAY 24 th JULY Area SOCIAL COACH TRIP TO LLANDUDNO Leaving M&S, Sale at 8.30am with the usual pick-up points. Come along and enjoy a day at leisure in the premier North Wales resort. Non-members welcome. Go past Heatherdene and then turn left on to New Road, go over Bole Hill and past Dennis Knoll. Car park is on the left. Details This clockwise circuit on the higher ground above Hathersage will visit Stanedge Pole, White Stones, Brown Edge Farm, Ox Stones, Houndkirk Road, Burbage Rocks, the Iron Age hill fort of Carl Wark, Higger Tor, Fiddler's Elbow, and a section of Stanage Edge. Good scenery throughout the day, weather permitting. WEDNESDAY 27 th JULY Area ALSTONEFIELD Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 8.00 Leader(s) Beverly Harrison Park Cars Alstonefield Village car park, next to public conveniences. GR SK (near the George Inn, Postcode DE6 2FX) From Buxton take A515. Next right after the turn for Alsop en le Dale. Details Alstonefield to Wetton, Thor's Cave, Wetton Mill, Sugarloaf, Ecton Hill, Archford Moor and Narrowgate Hill. Some good views if the weather is kind to us. Area RUSHTON SPENCER Leave Miles Category 3 Transport 5.00 Leader(s) Frank Dockry Park Cars Gritstone Trail CP by Knott Inn, Rushton Spencer, GR On right off the A523 Macclesfield Leek road soon after crossing the River Dane. Details A nice walk. Not too hilly though one short sharp climb. If its been wet there will be mud. Sunday 31 st JULY Area HEBDEN BRIDGE Leave Miles Category 3/2 Transport 7.00 Leader(s) David Bona & Brenda Bailey, (Mob ) Park Cars Car Park in Hebden Bridge GR SD993271, where leaders will meet. Take M60 to J21, follow signs to Littleborough, take A58, turn left on B6138, continue to A646 and turn left to Hebden Bridge. Follow

4 Details signs Town Centre Parking. At traffic lights turn right into Albert Street (A6033) and then first right again into car park. Parking is 40 pence per hour. From Hebden Bridge we steadily climb through woods, fields and the Pennine Way to Studley Pike. We then drop down to Withens Gate and follow Calderdale Way to Withens Clough Reservoir. A gentle climb to moorland at Keelham, round Bell House Moor, and down to Broad Head, to Daisy Bank and then back along the Rochdale Canal and the car park in Hebden Bridge. Area MARTON Leave Miles Category 4 Transport 4.00 Leader(s) Mavis Wheetman Park Cars Park cars at Marton Church, GR SJ Take the A34 from Alderley Edge to Monks Heath continue towards Congleton. Church is on left just after Davenport Arms pub on right. Details Lovely easy walk across fields and paths near the Capesthorne Estate. Tea Shop at the end.
