2 Event information for central London, the world s greatest festival of cycling featuring the world s top riders and fun for all the family, returns for its sixth year to London and Surrey over the last weekend of July More than 100,000 cyclists will participate in seven events taking place in central London on Saturday 28 July and in London and Surrey on Sunday 29 July. was developed by the Mayor of London, Transport for London and London & Partners in partnership with Surrey County Council and is sponsored by Prudential. It is Europe s most successful cycling fundraising event and riders have raised more than 53 million for charity since the event was first staged in The event is managed by the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership with live coverage on BBC and worldwide. This booklet contains important information to help you plan your travel around central London on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. Events on Saturday 28 July FreeCycle A family friendly ride for cyclists of all ages and abilities to explore an eight mile traffic-free loop in central London including seven festival sites. Classique See the world s best female professional cyclists compete in this Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Women s WorldTour race on a spectacular 5.5km circuit in central London. Handcycle Grand Prix The final event on Saturday sees the best men and women handcyclists in the world compete on closed roads around St James s. The event routes for Saturday 28 July are on pages Events on Sunday 29 July -Surrey ,000 amateur cyclists will take on a 100-mile cycle challenge through the closed roads of London and Surrey, starting at Queen Elizabeth Olympic before finishing on The Mall. -Surrey 46 A 46-mile ride for 5,000 amateur cyclists within the existing 100-mile challenge created specifically for newer and younger riders, also starting at Queen Elizabeth Olympic and finishing on The Mall. -Surrey 19 New for 2018, this 19-mile ride starts at Sandown and finishes on The Mall. The event is specifically for families and young people with children aged years old able to take part if they are accompanied by an adult and have completed the Level 2 Bikeability training programme or are a member of a British Cycling club. -Surrey Classic The first British men s race ever to attain UCI WorldTour status and featuring the best teams in the world. The race starts at Horse Guards Parade, St James s before heading into Surrey and returning to the capital to finish on The Mall. Brompton World Championship The 13th Brompton World Championship Final will take place on closed roads around St James s. 5 Local information River crossings A number of bridges in central London will be closed on Saturday 28 July until the evening of Sunday 29 July. Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge will remain open on Saturday 28 July. Waterloo, Blackfriars and London Bridge will be open on Sunday 29 July. Vehicles cannot be parked on the event route from 00:01 on Saturday 28 July until the road reopens. Any vehicle left on the route or parked in a suspended parking bay will be removed from the route. Public transport There will be some planned engineering works taking place on the Transport for London network on the event weekend. Due to event road closures, some bus services will need to be diverted temporarily, suspended or will terminate earlier than usual. Some stops may also be temporarily relocated. There will be significant delays to road journeys. To get around more quickly use Tube and rail or consider walking for shorter journeys. Cycle Superhighway Check tfl.gov.uk for real time travel information and the TfL journey planner. Tower Hill to Bridge Street (Westminster Bridge) during the morning. Emergency services Emergencies will be treated as a priority in the usual way. If you require the emergency services, call 999. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained and prioritised throughout all of the Prudential RideLondon events. During the event There will be stewards and volunteers positioned along the route. If you require assistance during the event that is not a 999 emergency please ask event staff to help. Alternatively, contact the helpdesk on Pedestrian crossing points Pedestrian crossing points are located along the event route. These will be under supervision to help pedestrians cross the road. Usual crossings may be suspended, but an alternative will be signposted where it will be easier to cross. Please be patient during the event and listen to instructions given by stewards.
