The collection of composers we have assembled represent the finest in the UK they include Kenneth Hesketh, Nigel Clarke, Martin Ellerby, Adam Gorb, Philip Sparke. You and your musicians will have the opportunity to experience the brilliance of one of these composers firsthand as they work with you and your band in rehearsals and clinics. They will also be present as you perform one of their works in front of an enthusiastic audience.

4 COMPOSERS KENNETH HESKETH is a professor of composition and orchestration at the Royal College of Music. Hesketh has received numerous commissions from international ensembles and organizations including the Fromm Foundation at Harvard University, the BBC Philharmonic Philharmonic and Hans Werner Henze and the Endymion Ensemble among others. NIGEL CLARKE is a composer of a wide variety of genres, and has written several works for band including the well-known work, Samurai. As a film score composer, he co-wrote the score to the feature film Jinnah starring Christopher Lee and James Fox, and The Little Vampire starring Jonathan Lipnicki, Richard E Grant and Alice Krige. He also co-wrote the score to The Little Polar Bear, the biggest Warner Bros. animation to be made outside of the USA, Ultimate Picture s Rocket Post, and most recently Thief Lord (Warner Bros) recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. MARTIN ELLERBY is a composer of international standing, whose works have been performed, broadcast and recorded to critical acclaim across Europe, Asia and the USA. His catalogue comprises compositions spanning a diverse range of media, including orchestral, choral, concert band, brass band, ballet, instrumental and chamber, together with a substantial number of commercial orchestrations and arrangements. 2

5 COMPOSERS ADAM GORB is Head of School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. His international recognition came in 1994 with the US Walter Beeler Prize for his work Metropolis. With it began what has developed into probably the most important wind ensemble catalogue by a contemporary composer, ranging from extremely challenging to the most accessible, at all technical levels, seized on by players internationally, widely recorded and now absolutely central to the world s wind repertoire. PHILIP SPARKE is known world-wide for his wide variety of compositions ranging from young band works to the most sophisticated compositions written for elite ensembles. International commissions for wind bands include Celebration, commissioned by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and Dance Movements, commissioned by the United States Air Force Band. George holds degrees from the University of North Texas, Southern Methodist University and Ithaca College. He is Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Chair of the Department of Music at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. His work as a conductor/clinician has taken him across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, continental Europe, Ireland, the UK, Australia, Japan, China, Brazil and Argentina. He has served as Artistic Director for several international music festivals in Australia, Europe and China. He is currently Music Director of Grand Symphonic Winds and is the founder and past Music Director of the Banda Sinfonica at the Escuela Nacional de Musica in Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. George s ensembles have appeared at major music conferences including the College Band Directors Association, Music Educators National Association and the Minnesota Music Educators Association. Under his direction, the UST Symphonic Wind Ensemble appears on the Innova record label. Dr. George has commissioned close to 75 new works by prolific national and international composers.
