Day 2: Sunday, October 9, 2016 Stratford-upon-Avon, England - Tour Begins Your tour opens in Stratfordupon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, England s most famous playwright. Walk in Shakespeare s footsteps as you visit his birthplace. This afternoon, it s your choice! You may choose to tour Anne Hathaway's thatch-roofed cottage, the childhood home of the author's wife; or, enjoy a leisurely cruise along the picturesque Avon River. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a private dinner at Hall s Croft, a 400-year-old Shakespearefamily home. As traditionally costumed actors perform some of the playwright s most renowned scenes, toast the beginning of a wonderful journey. (D) Day 3: Monday, October 10, 2016 Stratford - Stonehenge - Cotswolds - Stratford Your day begins with a trip to Stonehenge. Discover the legends of this mystical and fascinating site before traveling through some of England s most beautiful countryside. Explore the picturesque villages of the Cotswolds region before returning to Stratford for an evening at leisure. Explore the Welsh countryside before ending your day with an overnight stay in beautiful Ruthin Castle, situated in the north of Wales. You may choose to get acquainted with this regal city on a locally guided panoramic city tour. Or, for a different perspective, join a local expert to explore the city on foot. Both tours include visits to Edinburgh Castle, home of the Scottish Crown Jewels; and the Palace of Holyroodhouse,* the Queen s official residence in Edinburgh and former home of Mary, Queen of Scots. The remainder of the day is free to independently explore the city. (B) Day 7: Friday, October 14, 2016 Edinburgh - Borders Region - York, England Depart Edinburgh for Scotland s Borders region. Stretching across the country you will find Hadrian s Wall which once marked the northern border of the Roman Empire. Stop to see this ancient fortification that was begun in A.D. 122 to protect Roman Britain from the tribes of Scotland. Journey to the medieval city of York. Take a stroll through its charming streets to see the famous Minster and walk on the Shambles, a quaint, narrow street that appears today almost as it did during the Middle Ages. Here you ll find great shopping and a street that is so narrow in parts that you can almost reach both sides with your outstretched arms. Tonight, stay within the city s historic walls. (B) Day 8: Saturday, October 15, 2016 York - London Enjoy a leisurely morning to explore York before continuing to London, the cosmopolitan and historic capital of Britain. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore this iconic city. This evening, perhaps you will choose to join an optional dinner followed by one of the city s spectacular theater performances.
