2 Welcome! To Our 70th Anniversary Edition Welcome to the latest and possibly greatest edition of the Langstone Cliff Hotels what s on or Specials guide. As many of you will be aware we have now reached yet another milestone in the history of the Langstone Cliff Hotel with this being the 70th year of trading since the hotel was established way back in 1947 by Stanley and Marjorie Rogers and it is still run today by the ever-growing Rogers dynasty There are booklets available all around the hotel with a brief history of major dates in the 70 years, one of the most significant, and most costly, being the construction of the Washington Suite in This enabled us to present cabaret, bands and acts to a high standard rarely found in hotels, these normally being the preserve of theatres, large clubs (a shrinking breed) public halls and the like. Of course bringing names to the hotel adds significantly to the costs but just for a moment consider the value! As always the residential packages are the best deal, these invariably generate a really good atmosphere and a few days break is always a tonic isn t it? For non-residents even one of the most expensive events in this brochure the Back to Bacharach on page 6/7 is just a ticket. This show ran in London s West End at the Criterion theatre on Piccadilly Circus for several months in 2016 with possibly buying you a mid-theatre seat. At the Langstone Cliff Hotel you will be able to see the very same show (subject to cast changes), enjoy a five course dinner, in a dinner dance setting with dancing to a popular disco to follow through till all for your same none of the notorious theatre booking fees apply, no parking problems, or expense, and very much reduced transport costs. Oh and by the way bar drinks at the Langstone are cheaper than many of the local pubs, never mind London theatres or clubs. We enjoy our modest attempts at playing impresarios and try to bring you the best possible entertainment, at affordable prices, but quite obviously without your support we could not continue. And of course all the usual Loyalty Weekend extras Lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, afternoon tea and cakes each day, pre-dinner drinks in the bar each evening, flowers in the bedrooms will all still be in place. This is a very auspicious occasion for all of us here at the Langstone and we shall be doing our utmost to assure that the three days are particularly memorable for you too with the odd surprise or two, of course. Paul Da Vinci s 60 s and 70 s Explosion - Friday 28th April 2017 Paul Da Vinci started his musical career as a session singer, doing demonstration records for major songwriters, Tony Macauley, Don Black and numerous others, pitching to artists like Tom Jones and The Hollies. He appeared on Top of the Pops with Justin Hayward (Forever Autumn) and Elton John (I Guess That s Why They Call It The Blues). In the 70 s he had solo success as the legendary original voice on The Rubettes world-wide number 1 Sugar Baby Love, and his self produced and composed top 20 UK and European number 1 hit Your Baby Ain t Your Baby Anymore. He has sold over 8 million records world-wide. Paul has appeared as a starring act on P & O Cruises, the QE2, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean. Paul Da Vinci s 60s and 70s Explosion features a kicking band of seasoned session men who can really sing and play. The hits, plus a wide range of classic music (Motown, Swing, Rock and Pop) from the 60s and 70s and featuring his amazing three and a half octave voice, and the showmanship you would associate with such a seasoned professional ensures that we shall surely get the weekend off to a lively start. Back to Bacharach - Saturday 29th April 2017 Ok we have to own up the presentation of this particular cabaret show is pure self-indulgence, we just love the music of Burt Bacharach. This show was presented in London s West End for a long period during 2016 and we had hoped to go to see it, regrettably that did not happen but when we learnt that the show was to tour wow! The temptation was just too great and we are now proud to present one of the most expensive shows we have ever offered but then, we are not expecting to present another 70th Year Anniversary are we?! This exciting production has been touring throughout the UK from September 2016 and is performed by three of the finest West End singers accompanied by a live 10 piece band recreating Burt Bacharach s timeless hits. The productions vocalists have performed all over the world most recently seeing them perform on tours with The Strictly Come Dancing Arena Tour, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Miss Saigon, West Side Story and Whistle Down the Wind. The Musicians are regular performers for BBC orchestras and various touring shows throughout the UK and internationally, as well as recording with many famous artists. Songs featured in the show include: Alfie, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Arthur s Theme, Always Something There to Remind Me, Close to You, I Say a Little Prayer, Magic Moments, Walk on By, What s New Pussycat?, 24 Hours from Tulsa, Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head and many, many more. Songs everyone will remember and fall in love with all over again. Back to Bacharach is a fantastic show for all ages, friends and family! And now we bring it to you, here, live, in Dawlish! Late dancing with The Chris Snow Disco Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra - Sunday 30th April 2017 This great 12 piece orchestra was formed by Joe Loss in 1930 and has never been disbanded. Joe entrusted the leadership to Todd in Todd, who joined the orchestra in 1972, has continued the tradition of performing the best live entertainment for all generations. The orchestra has performed on 14 world tours, two Royal Weddings, many Royal Command Performances and premiers and is proud to have been presented to her Majesty the Queen on many different occasions. Nothing mimed, nothing tracked, Britain s best musicians and singers performing totally live. Absolutely tremendous entertainment! That this will be the seventh consecutive Spring Ball that Todd and the Orchestra have entertained us, surely speaks volumes? Graham on the keyboard will entertain through Dinner and during the orchestra s interval. 6 Summer School Holidays July 21st 4th September 2017 The long main school summer break varies slightly from school to school, but most embrace the period from Friday 21st July through to Monday 4th September It is when the children are on holiday that the Langstone Cliff really comes into its own it is ideal for family holidays, and children of all ages are genuinely welcomed. We are very proud of the fact that guests who first visited the hotel as children back in the 1950 s and 60 s still visit us to this very day with their children, grand-children, yes and even great-grand-children honestly! Kevin Bunclark entertains on most (not all) Friday evenings during school holiday periods and he certainly has the knack of appealing to both adults and children with equal success no mean feat! Kevin will be also be here on Friday 26th May. Whilst on Saturday 27th May we shall be presenting The Sixties Explosion a very lively rocking trio and also disco to give a very rounded spring bank holiday package of entertainment. In addition to our own regular entertainment featured in this brochure we offer specialised dance holidays with qualified leaders. Music can be a small band, keyboard player or CD s and tapes. 11 Leisure Breaks for all Tastes Bowls Holidays Enjoy a Lawn Bowls Holiday in South Devon There are several clubs in the immediate area the closest being the Marina Bowling Club located just a mile from the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Half a Mile further on is Dawlish Bowling club located on the lawns right in the centre of Dawlish. Teignmouth also has its own Bowls club as does Shaldon and Starcross. The Langstone Cliff Hotel reguarly hosts touring sides from all over the UK and for the last few years has been the venue for the the Devon Bowls Association awards ceremony in the 400 seat Washington Ballroom. The Langstone Cliff Hotel nestles in 19 acres of woodland overlooking the sea at Dawlish, South Devon, 5 miles from Teignmouth and Shaldon, a 20 minute drive from Exeter or Newton Abbot, 25 minutes from Torquay. The M5 can be reached in 20 minutes from the hotel then Bristol is around an hour from there. Plymouth is around an hours drive from the hotel.
