RESIDENT OF THE MONTH david and betty rowe David and Betty started Rowe and Jarman Sports Store along with partner, Australian and State cricketer, Barry Jarman in a small basement in Rundle Street

The Rowe and Jarman sporting Empire expanded and stores were opened Interstate. The business continued to expand until the late 80 s when they sold out to Amart Sports.

2 RESIDENT OF THE MONTH david and betty rowe David and Betty started Rowe and Jarman Sports Store along with partner, Australian and State cricketer, Barry Jarman in a small basement in Rundle Street in The business flourished and they moved to larger permanent premises in Grenfell Street, (pictured) where they grew the business State wide to Whyalla, Port Lincoln, and Alice Springs. David said the only regret with the sale was Amart changed the Rowe and Jarman iconic name. Over the years Rowe and Jarman employed many sports people, including the well-known Cricket identity Nugget Rees, pictured with David. David is a keen golfer, and has been a member of Kooyonga Golf Club for 70 years, and a former President and Captain of that club! David s sporting prowess was Tennis and he played in the State Team. David and Betty moved to The Ashbrook in 2013 and although he still misses his seafront location on the Glenelg Esplanade, he said it is the best move they have ever made. It s like living in a 5 Star Luxury Hotel, said David. It s secure, hassle free, life is made so easy. It s fantastic! I d recommend the move to anyone. 02 / February 2017 Newsletter

FROM THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE BBQ BRUNCH JANUARY 2017 A BYO BBQ with a difference!

partake in the BBQ Brunch. Sausages, eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection by Clive, Barry, Denis, and Nifty Nev, and at 10.

Many residents took advantage of the opportunity to sit at the new outdoor furniture in the Sky Garden to partake in their brunch.

4 FROM THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE BBQ BRUNCH JANUARY 2017 A BYO BBQ with a difference! Clive promised to purchase and cook the food this resulted in almost 60 residents, family and friends indicating their desire to partake in the BBQ Brunch. Sausages, eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection by Clive, Barry, Denis, and Nifty Nev, and at 10.30am served by Yvonne and Lyn. Three toasting stations were set up for residents to toast their own with bread and butter supplied. Many residents took advantage of the opportunity to sit at the new outdoor furniture in the Sky Garden to partake in their brunch. Thank you to Clive, Pam, and their many helpers for making this enjoyable event possible. A perfect day, delicious food, and excellent company what more could one want? 04 / February 2017 Newsletter

NEW RESIDENTS AT THE ASHBROOK Welcome to 3 New Residents who all moved in to the Ashbrook prior to Christmas.

JOYCE BALL Ground Floor Joyce moved in from Unley where she lived for the past 27 years. Over the years all her neighbours and friends have moved away.

A big thank you to Chris Alexander for assisting Joyce in preparing her Unley house for sale to make the move as easy and smooth as possible.

Graham has a background in Management in the Finance Industry. Where there is a will there is a way.

5 NEW RESIDENTS AT THE ASHBROOK Welcome to 3 New Residents who all moved in to the Ashbrook prior to Christmas. If you pass them in the corridor or at the lift, please say hello and make them feel welcome. JOYCE BALL Ground Floor Joyce moved in from Unley where she lived for the past 27 years. Over the years all her neighbours and friends have moved away. She is looking forward to a new set of friends at the Ashbrook. A big thank you to Chris Alexander for assisting Joyce in preparing her Unley house for sale to make the move as easy and smooth as possible. GRAHAM AND JOY JANZ 1st Level JAN HARRIS Graham and Joy moved from leafy Belleview Heights where the huge garden and slopes became too much to handle. Graham has a background in Management in the Finance Industry. Where there is a will there is a way. On moving day Graham and Joy encountered a major problem - how to get a cherished large dining table into their new Apartment. The lift was not large enough, the stairwell didn t work so the excellent team at Complete Removals lifted the table up the light well. JOB COMPLETE. 2nd Level The convenient location and security suited Jan, who still works full time in a senior role in a Government Department. Jan is a keen bridge player, so will fit in well at the Ashbrook. She commented how having a bus stop virtually at the front door of the building was a great benefit. 05/ February 2017 Newsletter

On checking through the listings of the DVD s in the upstairs theatrette, it appears that a number of DVD s are missing.

In a Rhodes tailor shop: Order your summers suit. Because is big rush we will execute customers in strict rotation. Would you mind checking to see if you have borrowed any DVD s from our DVD library and forgotten to return them after watching the movie. Many joined in the programmed activities with others being an enthusiastic support crowd. As usual, the Social Committee, with a band of very willing helpers, worked hard keeping everyone fed and watered with sandwiches, lamingtons, watermelon, biscuits and Billy T and coordinating the running of the activities. A special thank you to Annie and Dick Windsor who spent many hours planning and coordinating the day with their usual aplomb.
