message from mary making a difference in... education In 2006 I was thrilled to be elected as your local MP in the Victorian Parliament for the seat of Doncaster, and the last eight years have been the greatest privilege of my life. Together we have achieved some substantial things for our community, including upgrades to bus services, a redeveloped Box Hill Hospital, refurbished schools and community facilities, enhanced community safety and support for vulnerable families and individuals. I have loved every minute of working with you for our community and am obviously disappointed that the Victorian Electoral Commission has abolished the seat of Doncaster at the upcoming State election. As a result, I won t be able to continue as your Lower House representative, however, I will be seeking re-election for the Upper House in this area, the Eastern Metropolitan Region. Thank you for your support and encouragement in my role as your Parliamentary representative over the past eight years. I look forward to continuing to be a part of, and contributing to, the wonderful community in which we live. Birralee Primary School Wonderland Childcare and Kindergarten Doncaster schools and kindergartens have successfully attracted a range of funding. This has included the award winning redevelopment of Birralee Primary School and significant expansion of Wonderland Kindergarten, the demolition and replacement of old buildings, IT upgrades, anti-bullying initiatives, languages, energy audits, sustainability projects and volunteerism. Sincerely Mary Wooldridge MP Member for Doncaster Doncaster Schools
making a difference in... health and wellbeing NDIS Launch Box Hill Hospital Chinese Family Playgroups The $447 million redevelopment of Box Hill Hospital will make a significant difference for Manningham residents with 200 additional beds, a larger emergency department, a dedicated women s service, 11 new operating theatres, a new 18-bed intensive care unit and specialist cardiology services. In addition, support has been provided for a variety of programs to improve access and reduce social isolation, including Doncare s Chinese Family playgroups, East Doncaster Cricket Club s No Boundaries Cricket program for people with a disability and Onemda s accessible development at the Ted Ajani Community Hub. In my capacity as Minister for Mental Health and Community Services, Manningham and Eastern region have benefited from enhanced home based mental health support, safer facilities for women in mental health inpatient units, a new youth mental health hub, improved access to alcohol and drug treatment, expanded respite for people with a disability and improved support for women and children who experience violence in the home. For people with a disability the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme from 2016 will make a significant difference in their lives and the lives of their family and carers. No Boundaries Cricket Program Onemda Sensory Room
making a difference in... roads and public transport making a difference in... community safety Doncaster Rail Study As promised, a comprehensive independent study on a train line from Doncaster to the CBD has been completed. The report identified that due to capacity issues Melbourne Rail Link (MRL) needs to be built and the Hurstbridge and South Morang lines separated before Doncaster Rail can be built. The Government is building MRL and in the meantime enhancing bus travel with cheaper fares, bigger buses, priority road access and building a new dedicated outbound bus lane along Victoria Parade and Hoddle Street. There have also been a number of new pedestrian crossings built outside retirement villages and trees planted near Eastlink to reduce the freeway noise. Neighbourhood Watch Doncare s imatter While Manningham continues to be one of the safest places to live we now have more police, including a specific family violence unit and youth support officers. Manningham has also received a number of crime prevention grants for things such as security alarms, floodlights and fencing for community facilities, graffiti prevention and community education programs and Doncare has received funding for innovative and much needed prevention and support programs to tackle violence against women. Pedestrian crossings Tree planting Doncaster Police
making a difference in... community infrastructure MC 2 Opening Jackson Court A great asset to Manningham, the Manningham City Square, MC 2, community hub was opened in 2012 with a $5.2 million contribution from the State Government and offers a wide range of services and activities for families. Further improvements to community facilities include the new cenotaph at the Doncaster RSL, the new roof and seating at the Doncaster Playhouse, a new kitchen and bathroom at the United Muslim Migrants Association (UMMA) Centre, enhanced pedestrian amenities at Jackson Court and 16,000 native plants and shrubs planted at Mullum Mullum Creek to support the local colony of platypuses. Doncaster RSL Doncaster Hockey Club Doncaster Playhouse Our sporting grounds have improved including an electronic scoreboard at Zerbes Reserve, improved lighting at Donvale Reserve, upgraded tennis courts at Doncaster Tennis Club and a new synthetic mini pitch at Doncaster Hockey Club. UMMA Centre Mullum Mullum Creek Donvale Reserve Zerbes Reserve
making a difference... out and about Pink Ladies at The Pines Community Conversations Listening to and talking with locals residents has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my role, whether it be at my annual Community Conversations Town Hall meeting, the annual Pink Ladies stall at The Pines, or at the Tunstall Square Twilight Festival, the Multicultural Festival or Manningham Carols by Candlelight. Together we have Cleaned Up Mullum Mullum Creek and Ruffey Lake Park, raised money for the Breast Cancer Network and the RSL, Relayed for Life and provided gifts and food to Doncare at Christmas time for vulnerable families. Women s Friendship Group Clean up Australia Day Christmas cheer I have also taken my role representing you in Parliament very seriously, having regularly raised issues of concern and celebrating the achievements of Doncaster residents. Representing you in Parliament
