I met a couple that were not NSC members and they were inquiring about our huge group. I proceeded to tell the couple about the club and all the cool things we do. They really liked our flash hikes and can t believe people our age flash! Dan the Man hiking Fool I went on Mondays flash hike and I don t know if I held them back but hopefully kept pace. Perfect weather, can t wait to see if I can make any other hikes, but will try to rearrange my schedule fun, fun. Thanks for a great meeting in October, we are over 90 members and going strong. Please if you did not make the meeting and have suggestions, let us know, we are committed to try almost (almost anything). Our November meeting will include the TAASC raffle, this has been a commitment for many years the club for many years now. For every $5.00 contribution you make you will receive a raffle ticket for gifts. The gifts are all new and hopefully you will enjoy the choices. We will have some high ticket items that we will be auctioning. You can scope the tables and contribute at the November meeting, or if you cannot be there you can contribute on line. TAASC is a year round program that makes skiing available to any person with special needs. Dig Deep! Read the Newsletter! So much going on, keep up with us. 3 Welcome New Members from the Editor: Starting with this newsletter I m adding Letters to the Editor/Board. If you have a question or concern, send it to me. And if you d like to direct your question to a board member, by all means do so. In the interest of being open to all sorts of questions, I ll code each sender with initials not related to their name. from JA: Was there an October 2018 newsletter that I never received? JA yes there was an October newsletter, granted it did come out quite late due to my work schedule. Thinking back on it I may have sent only to 2019 members at the time rather than the entire list. That was an oversight on my part. That said, always be on the look out for the newsletter the end of the previous month and if you don t see it, by all means send me an and I ll be happy to reply promptly. from LE: Will there be a Saturday or Sunday hike? I'll be sending out s to each and everyone of our 2019 members to verify information. Two things of note: 1. I'll be giving everyone the option as to whether you'd like you address, phone number, and/or listed. The directory will NOT be posted online so privacy concerns should be minimal, that said, you have the final say. 2. Pictures I really think it would be helpful to include your picture (couples will be listed together, so a picture of both of you). NON-TRANSFERABLE photo ID's are issued for these passes and need to be presented to receive a valid lift ticket each visit. Choose a season pass for a lift ticket only, or include rental equipment and/or lessons with your pass. There are no weekend/holiday restrictions for individuals. 5 Snow Trails Online Purchasing Procedure Go to and click where is says Seasonal Clubs. Make sure that you read the content then click Buy Now, it is a blue button. Select Seasonal Clubs from the Choose a Category column. Click on the desired attribute (Everyday or Once-a-Week) from the middle column, Choose an Attribute, and then select the pass you want from the 3rd column, Choose a Product and add to cart. To select an add-on, click Group add-ons from the category column then select the products that you want from the middle column. Note: All add-ons must be done at this time. The system will not let you add them unless they are done on the same transaction. Add to Cart (your cart will be located at the bottom of the page) and click the next button. From the Please Select drop down find your group code (example: W33-Bishop Hartley). They are in order by the 1st letter. Then click the assign button. If you are a returning pass holder, search your name as you will be in the database. Review information for accuracy (not all information will be displayed for security reasons unless you created and remember your username and password). If you are new to Snow Trails select add new guest and fill out the required fields shown, click next. Check to make sure the product selected is correct as well as the name and club code and click next. Enter your Promotion Code, which you should receive from your club leader, in the box provided and click submit. This will reduce the price to the current rate. Read and check the Terms and Conditions and check the box then click next. Click on the Agreement link and read as this is your waiver and will be kept on file, then check the box to the right. Below, check the appropriate choice as it pertains to you, the purchaser, and click next. Check out: Enter information as it pertains to the credit card you are using and then click on next. A confirmation will be sent to the address that you registered. Print off confirmation and keep for your records. OK the picture is not exactly what Jim has in mind but it did get your attention, right? Who knows, might be just what some of you Black Diamond Skiers want!) I m looking for others in the club who would enjoy planning a few one-day kayaking trips on rivers in Ohio. Ohio has a numbers of enjoyable, beginner-friendly, rivers that we can explore including the Kokosing, the Mohican, the Little Miami, and the Hocking River. If you re interested, let me know. 7 October Hikes Great way to enjoy the fall and get ready for ski season Something that popped up almost as an after thought during our October General Meeting has become a hit our club hikes. Great way to spend time with friends this fall and start getting in shape for the ski season. We had three hikes this month, two led by Dan Gartner and one by Daryl Shrider. Here's some pictures from the hikes. And just because the weather is turning colder don't think the hikes are over. Plans are under way for a January Hocking Hills hike. 7

For the history buff, a trip to Breisach, is just what the professor ordered. Even though the town officially celebrated its birthday in 369, people have lived in this beautiful Mother of the Breisgau for more than 4,000 years! The Museum of Urban History, an incredibly beautiful Baroque building, traces Breisach s history back to a few thousand years B.C. Amazingly enough, there is still plenty to see here although 85 percent of the town was destroyed by Allied bombings in the last days of the WWII. A few of those medieval buildings can be found in ruins, but it doesn t make them any less beautiful. There are ruins of three medieval castles around the area Castle Alzenach (13th century), Castle Breisach (12th century), and Castle Üsenberg, the oldest of them all, built sometime in the 11th century. More medieval wonders are the impressive churches that call Breisach home. As if the Romanesque St. Stephanmünster Cathedral isn t beautiful enough on its own, the artwork found within this church is nothing short of astonishing. One of the most beautiful pieces in its collection is a 15th century silver reliquary casket. 8 With many historical sites wherever you turn, an avid history buff will fall in love with this marvelous town.

10 Snow Trails Skiing and Tubing Friday, January 11, 2019 Snow Trails Mansfield, OH Join NSC members and friends for an evening of skiing and tubing. Enjoy tuning up your skiing ability before your big ski trips or join in a fun time tubing. Better yet, enjoy both. Bring friends, children and grandchildren.
