2 Stevens County Fair Open Class Exhibits ENTRY TIMES Open Class Exhibit Building Wednesday Aug. 8 th 2018: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Individuals with more than 20 exhibits must come before 2 p.m. on Wednesday. OPEN CLASS EXHIBITS Stevens County Fair Rules & Regulations 1.The Stevens County Fair reserves the final and absolute right to interpret these terms, rules, and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and differences in regards there to, or otherwise arising out of, connected with or incident to the Stevens County Fair. The Superintendents of their area shall be the final arbitrator of any disputes involving exhibitors and day to day activities. The Stevens County Executive Board backs the Superintendent 100 percent. 2.The Agricultural Society reserves the right to amend or add to these rules as in its judgment may deem advisable. 3.Entries for premiums by adults may be made by residents of Stevens County and adjoining counties only. Limit 200 entries per exhibitor. 4.Exhibits must be grown, made or owned by the exhibitor. 5.One exhibit per person will be allowed in each lot and one exhibit cannot be entered to compete in more than one lot or 4-H. 6.All exhibits except livestock must NOT have been previously exhibited at the Stevens County Fair. 7.The Stevens County Agricultural Society wishes to promote a wholesome and educational event for the entire family. All exhibits and displays are subject to review by the Agricultural Society. Any items or material deemed as inappropriate for display must be removed by exhibitor upon request by fair officials. The following items are included in the above ban: Weapons (death stars, butter- fly knives); sexually explicit/pornographic material; and vulgar/profane materials. Exhibits and displays are meant to be enjoyed by all fairgoers. Please help us make the fair a pleasant experience for people of all ages. 8.Exhibits must be entered correctly, ticketed properly and ready to be judged when entered, to be judged and premiums awarded. The responsibility of determining the proper classification shall rest on the exhibitor. 9.The Agricultural Society will take every precaution for the preservation of the articles and stock on exhibition but will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur in the delivery, exhibition or removal of exhibits. 10.If anyone has issues or disagreements with how things are run in a building or on the Stevens County Fairgrounds overall, the Stevens County Fair board reserves the rights to ask said person(s) to leave the fairgrounds. 11.Any person or group that conducts a protest action must limit its activity to 10 am 7pm in the location designated by the Stevens County Fair Board. The designated location is the southeast corner of the bunker, which is in the southern parking lot on fairground property. No entrances or exits can be obstructed or limited in any way. 12.No dogs/animals are allowed on the fairgrounds except for service dogs/animals with service registration, and in designated areas only. Dogs/animals may be allowed when part of an exhibition or demonstration authorized by the Ag Society. Carnival owner/operators, camping- dogs must be housed during fair hours. 13.No animals or livestock may be sold or given away on the fairgrounds. 14.Exhibits left after fair. Any person, corporation or club owning any property left on the grounds after the close of the Fair without having approval of the Fair Board to leave the same, shall forfeit the same to the Fair Board for disposal. 15. Smoking and E-cigarettes are not allowed in any building or rides on the fairgrounds or within 50 feet of any building doorway. Designated smoking areas are posted where smoking is allowed. 16.Vehicles, golf carts, 4-wheelers, gators, and the likes of which are for the express use of the fair personnel during the fair time (week) are only to be driven by Stevens County Fair personnel designated to use such units. Underage members of fair board members, families, are not permitted to operate these units. 17. Use of motorized vehicles on fairgrounds during fair week limited only to golf carts, 4-wheelers, gators and the likes of which are in use by the Stevens County Fair board, EMS, or Security Staff will be permitted during fair week. All other private units will not be permitted on the fairgrounds! Insurance coverage will not allow private units on the grounds. 18. For Informational Purposes Only: Accidents or injury reporting is required if you are injured at the Stevens County Fair. Please report to the Information Booth located on the midway across from the Grandstand Entrance. 19. The Stevens County Ag Society is not responsible for any Accidents/injuries/damages etc. that may occur on the grounds or premise. Anyone Entering onto the fairgrounds is doing so at their own risk. AWARDS 1.The awards in open class entries will be designated by ribbons, stickers or cards as follows: 1st Premium, blue; 2nd, red; 3rd, white. 2.Grand Champion ribbons will be awarded to exhibits of exceptional merit. 3.Premiums will not be awarded unless the judge deems the exhibit worthy. 2

3 4. 1 st premium awarded $5, 2 nd $3, 3 rd $2 unless otherwise noted. Garden Special 1 st $8, 2 nd $5, 3 rd $2. Cattle 1 st $15, 2 nd $10, 3 rd $6. Chickens, Ducks, Turkeys, Pigeons and Rabbits 1 st $8, 2 nd $5, 3 rd $3. Sheep and Goats, 1 st $10, 2 nd $8, 3 rd $5. 5.Any interference by exhibitors to influence or dictate the decision of the judges shall be sufficient cause for excluding his or her entry from competition and may have exhibition privileges revoked in future county fairs. RELEASE OF EXHIBITS 1. All exhibits, including livestock, must remain on exhibit until specific area release times the Sunday of the fair. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Premiums will be forfeited if articles are removed before scheduled times. Hogs-6pm, Beef and Dairy-7pm, Horses-7pm, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits and Poultry-7pm, Lee center booths, 4-H exhibits, Open class building, and Homemakers building- 8pm 2.Exhibits will be released, and premium checks awarded from 8:00-9:00 p.m. at the Open Class Exhibit Building on Sunday of the fair. CLAIMS Persons having claims against the Stevens County Agricultural Society must present them in writing to the secretary within fifteen days after the last day of the fair. H & H Veterinary Service has been accepted as official veterinarians for the fair. Exhibition of Livestock and Poultry in Minnesota Summary of State Rule General Requirements Livestock and poultry that exhibit symptoms of any infectious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts, may not be exhibited. All animals must be examined by the official veterinarian on the day they are admitted to the exhibition and at least once daily during the exhibition. The Official Veterinarian will order the immediate removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any livestock with symptoms of infectious or communicable diseases. Animals placed in a quarantine facility must remain there until removed from the exhibition premises. They may not enter a show ring. This includes livestock with warts or ringworm. All testing must be conducted prior to the exhibition, and a record of the test results on a test chart or Intrastate Health Certificate must accompany the tested animals. Livestock and poultry entered in a petting exhibit are not exempt from the exhibition rules if the animals are from more than one farm or there are other animals at the exhibit. The official veterinarian may request and be permitted to test any animal appearing sick and has the right to test dead animals. Owners and responsible for removal coat of dead animals after released by the Fair Veterinarian. POULTRY Poultry, except waterfowl and pigeons, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band and accompanied by a form approved by the board to show compliance with one of the following: negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease conducted within 90 days prior to the opening of the exhibition; originate directly from parent stock tested and found negative for pullorum-typhoid disease with in the last 12 months. In addition, turkeys must be negative for Salmonella typhimurium, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Mycoplasma synoviae. SWINE Swine must be individually identified and must: Have had a negative official pseudorabies test conducted within 30 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or Originate directly from a qualified pseudorabies-negative herd; or Originate directly from a Stage IV or V county or area. All 50 states are currently pseudorabies Stage V, (Pseudorabies Free Status). SHEEP & GOATS Please make prior arrangements to entering to be sure there is a pen for your entry. Official Identification Required: All sheep and goats for show or exhibition, including wethers, must be officially identified. Official Scrapie identification includes Scrapie ear tags or tattoos that have been approved and registered with the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. Exhibitors should identify. HORSES All horses must be negative to an official test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months prior to the opening of the exhibition. A test is not required for suckling foals accompanying a negative dam. SLAUGHTER CLASSES All livestock and poultry entered in the class which are kept isolated in a separate building from all other livestock and poultry at the exhibition and which are slaughtered during or immediately following the exhibition do not need tests or individual identification. DOGS Dogs over 6 months of age must be accompanied by a current Certificate of Rabies Vaccination issued by a licensed Veterinarian. 3

4 Requirements for Livestock and Poultry Originating from States Other than Minnesota: Livestock and poultry originating from states other than Minnesota must meet the Minnesota Importation requirements in addition to the requirements outlined in this summary. All imported animals must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection. Ruminants originating from Michigan may not be imported into Minnesota for exhibition. Health certificates must list the Minnesota Exhibition as consignee and will be accepted if examination and tests are conducted within 90 days prior to the exhibition except swine pseudorabies test must be made within 30 days prior to the exhibition. The differential pseudorabies tests are not approved for exhibition. Requirements for horses and dogs are the same as for those originating from Minnesota. Art ready for hanging: Exhibits need to be ready to hang (framed and/or matted). Limited to 8x10 through 18x20 inch size. Bars: Enter 2-2 squares on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Breads- Quick: Enter ½ small loaf or ¼ of regular sized loaf, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Breads- Yeast: Enter ½ small loaf, wrapped in a see-through plastic bag with twister, or self-sealing plastic bag. Cakes: Enter a 4 square piece of unfrosted cake, made from scratch, on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Candy: Enter 3 pieces of candy on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Canning: *Exhibits must be in standard pint, quart, or half pint jars, unless otherwise specified, with new lids and rings. *Jars must be manufactured for canning. * All foods must be processed according to the Extension Service of Minnesota. A boiling water bath is used for processing jam and jellies, fruit, tomatoes, and pickles, and a pressure canner must be used for low acid vegetables and meat. Your processing time must be written on lid or label. *Jams and jellies must be sealed using a 2-piece lid. Paraffin seals are not allowed. *All jars must be marked with the current year on lid to ensure against entry of same jar in the fair next year. Children s Exhibits: *Entries must be made and exhibited by the child *Exhibits must be entered by the child unless cleared with superintendent before entry day. *Food must be on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. *All models and Lego sculptures must be entered on a tray, cookie sheet, or low cardboard box. Lego sculptures will be judged on originality. *All pictures should be drawn on an 8.5 x11 paper. *All 5 photos should be placed on a 14 x22 tag board. *Flowers-enter 3 blooms per specimens. Check Specimen guidelines for Flowers for exhibit suggestions. Cookies: Enter 3 cookies on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Donuts: Enter 3 on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Flowers: *All plants and flowers must be grown by the exhibitor. *Specimen exhibits will be judged for quality of form, color, size, foliage, and condition. (No buds or excess foliage) *Specimen exhibits will be placed in white vases provided by the fair. No other container will be accepted or necessary. *Enter three blooms per specimen unless otherwise specified. *Arrangements will be judged for flower quality, design and suitability. The container will be considered part of the exhibit. *Plants which are flowering plants must be shown in bloom. Specimens: FOR BEST DISPLAY *Cut early in the morning or afternoon. *Use Sharp knife, cut on slant *Place immediately in warm water *Remove all foliage below waterline *Let flowers stand in a cool dry place out of drafts for hrs *Stems with sticky sap should be singed on cut edge or sealed by placing lower end of stem in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. *Woody stems should be crushed to increase water absorption. Junior Clothing: Must be entered by exhibitor under 16 years old. Photography- Amateur: All photos must be matted or framed-1print per related subjects/class. Must be taken within the last year. Photography- Professional: A professional photographer is someone who receives payments for their photos. All photos must be matted or framed-1 print per related subject/class. Must be taken within the last year. Pies: Enter a wedge of pie (1/6th of pie) in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Rolls: Enter 3 rolls on a 6 paper plate, wrapped in a see through plastic bag with twister or self-sealing plastic bag. Seniors: Senior is considered anyone over 65 years of age. Sewing: *All garments must be entered on plain wire hanger. *Garments will be dated when entered, as articles exhibited in any previous year are not eligible. *Garments may have been worn before, but if so they must be laundered or cleaned before exhibiting. *If a Serger is used in any part of a garment the item must be entered in the Serger classes. Vegetables: Judged on quality and uniformity rather than size. Vegetables are not to be washed but should be polished with a clean cloth. Tops on root vegetables should not be cut completely off; leave about 1 ½ inches. Trim roots. Stems are to be left on vegetables and fruit, except tomatoes. Leave a few outer leaves on cabbage. 4
