2 DEPARTMENT 6 DAIRY GOATS RULES & REGULATIONS Section 1 OPEN DAIRY GOATS 1. A pen fee of $4 per head is required with registration. No refunds for no show goat exhibits. If an animal to be exhibited becomes sick a refund may be granted if a slip is obtained from a vet. 2. Livestock must be pre-registered by July 15. Livestock are to arrive on Monday, Aug. 21 between noon and 9 p.m. They must remain on exhibit until released at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug Dairy Goats must be neatly disbudded or dehorned per the American Dairy Goat Association standards. Other nondairy goat breeds must conform to breed standards. 4. Get of Sire shall consist of three does from a particular sire, with not more than one under one year old allowed, and not more than one animal from every multiple birth allowed. Get of Sire need not be owned by the exhibitor. Entries in this class shall be made in the sire s name. 5. Produce of Dam shall consist of two does of different ages, the product of one dam. Produce of Dam need not be owned by the exhibitor. 6. Dam and Daughter shall consist of a dam and her daughter. The dam must be owned by the exhibitor, and the daughter must be bred and owned by the exhibitor. 7. Best Three Females shall consist of three does of one breed of any ages. They must be owned by the exhibitor. 8. The Junior Championship class shall consist of the first- and second- place animals in the Junior Classes. 9. The Senior Championship class shall consist of the first- and second- place animals in the Senior Classes. 10. The Grand Champion class shall consist of the Junior and Senior Champions. 11. Best Doe in Show class shall consist of the Grand Champion from each breed. 12. Only does entered in the regular classes may compete in the Get of Sire, Produce of Dam, Best Three Females, Best Udder, and Dam and Daughter classes. 4 DEPARTMENT 10 4-H AND VOCATIONAL Eligibility: 4-H club members must have passed their eighth birthday but must not have passed their 19th birthday as of Jan. 1 st. Exhibitors must be 4-H members carrying a project in the field in which they wish to make entry and be under the supervision of their State University Cooperative Extension Service by their designated deadline. Open Class rules, regulations and entry times apply for all 4-H and Vocational Livestock Projects. Be sure to use only grooming products that are approved for use on meat and dairy animals when fitting your animals for show. Unapproved products may contain ingredients that result in unacceptable residues in the meat or milk. For exhibits, including live animals, please refer to the Beaver County 4-H Project Directory and/or the project book for project completion requirements not listed on the website or department 10 information printed from the website. 7 Goats Health Rules and Requirements All animals showing clinical signs of contagious, infectious or parasitic diseases will not be admitted to any show or other fair event. All drug and vaccine labels directions must be followed, including but not limited to milk and slaughter withdrawal periods. The vaccine must be administered at least 15 days prior to entry into the fair. Pennsylvania Goats Requirements: 1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1, 2017 is required. 2. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the CVI (statement is pre-printed on the CVI). 3. Individual official animal identification is required. Official ID includes: A USDA ear tag with a US shield; or A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database; or Goats having a breed registration tattoo and accompanied by a registration certificate are exempt from the scrapie ID requirement if the tattoo is legible and a registration certificate listing the current owner (copy acceptable) accompanies the animal at all times during transport from the premises of origin. Out of State Goats Requirements: 1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within the 30 days prior to the date of importation. 2. Vesicular Stomatitis (VS): (applies to states that experienced a Vesicular Stomatitis outbreak in the last 12 months). An accredited veterinarian shall determine whether the animals are free from VS, and animals shall be accompanied by a CVI with the following statement signed by the accredited veterinarian: All animals identified on this certificate of veterinary inspection have been examined and found to be free from Vesicular Stomatitis (VS). During the past 90 days; these animals were not located within 10 miles of a site where VS has been diagnosed. 3. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the CVI (the statement is pre-printed on the CVI). 4. Individual official animal identification is required for all goats includes: A USDA ear tag with a US shield; or A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database; or Goats having a breed registration tattoo and accompanied by a registration certificate are exempt from the scrapie ID requirement if the tattoo is legible and a registration certificate listing the current owner (copy acceptable) accompanies the animal at all times during transport from the premises of origin, and a certificate of Veterinary Inspection which lists the tattoo accompanies the animal. 5. Testing requirements: Tuberculosis: No test is required for animals originating from Accredited Free states or zones. All animals originating from states or zones designated Modified Accredited
8 Advanced must be test negative within the 60 days prior to importation. The negative test results and date of test must be included on the CVI or the animal must be accompanied by a negative test report (a copy of the original report is acceptable) All animals originating from states or zones designated Modified Accredited must originate from herds in which all animals 12 months of age and older are test negative within the 12 months prior to the date of importation; and the individual animals (all ages) to be imported have also tested negative within the 60 days prior to the date of importation and at least 60 days after the negative whole herd test was completed. The negative test results and date of test must be included on the CVI or the animal must be accompanied by a negative test report (a copy of the original test report is acceptable).
