4 Call to Convention Put away your coats, but keep the sweaters handy. Step outside and look up at the big blue sky, watching big fluffy clouds float by and imagine the rolling hills and sweeping plains of Texas. Shake off the vision of cowboys riding the plains and make plans to join the Society of Military Widows for our annual meeting In San Antonio, October 11-15, We will be staying at the Historic Menger Hotel where Teddy Roosevelt recruited men for the Rough Riders. Right across the Street we will wander the sacred grounds of the Alamo by day or join the Ghost Walk around the plaza at dusk. Behind the hotel is access to the River Walk with wonderful dining, river tours and all kinds of adventure. If shopping is more to your taste, there is a huge shopping mall just outside the side door of the hotel. Horse drawn carriages and sightseeing buses pull right up to the front door. There are so many opportunities for things to do, delicious dining and fellowship with friends, you can t be bored. HM

6 For our adventurers, come in a day early and we will wend our way off into the hill country for a visit to the historic German town of Fredericksburg and the National Museum of the Pacific War, Home of the Admiral Nimitz Museum and the Japanese Garden of Peace, a gift from the people of Japan. Join us and find out why the ADMIRAL is honored in a sea of sand far from any large body of water. Shop the quaint shops and dine at the AUSLANDER where lunch comes with apple strudel for desert. We will finish the day back at the Menger in time to greet everyone at our opening reception. We have business to take care of, friends to meet and memories to make. Come and help plot our future and install our new officers who have stepped forward to lead us. Bring friends, family and interested guests who might like to know more about us.
