5 p r o f i l e A peaceful area with beautiful mountain views, The Preserve at McKay Shores offers the warmth of a small town atmosphere with homes surrounded by acres of open space and trails. Broomfield is centrally located just 20 minutes from both Downtown Denver and Boulder. Broomfield offers residents a wide range of entertainment, sports and cultural activities. There is also an abundance of local shopping, entertainment, beautiful parks and breathtaking open spaces. As a small farming community, Broomfield was founded in 1877 and was first known as Zang s Spur. It was named after the founder of the Zang Brewing Company, A.J. Zang. The town s name was changed to Broomfield at the beginning of the 20th century to reflect the broom corn fields growing in the area. In 1961 Broomfield was officially incorporated as a statutory city. The city s first master plan and home rule charter were adopted 13 years later. In 2001 Broomfield made Colorado history by becoming Colorado s 64th county. It was the first county to be added to the state in almost 100 years. Broomfield offers exceptional school systems, both public and private. For residents of Broomfield, the average education level goes well beyond high school. Broomfield is careful to maintain its rural charm while continuing to be an influential force in the Colorado economy.
