2 Phoenix Park Visitor Centre and Ashtown Castle A lively and entertaining exhibition on the history and wildlife of the Phoenix Park is on display in the Visitor s Centre. Here the visitor can enjoy an historical interpretation of the park from 3,500 B.C. to the present day. They can also view an audio-visual presentation on the history of the park through the ages or on the history of Áras an Uachtaráin. FREE ADMISSION Open daily 10.00am pm summer time Open daily 9.30am pm winter time Last admission 30 minutes before closing Groups must be booked at the centre. Telephone: Also free guided tours of Ashtown Castle - enquiries at reception. Tours of Áras an Uachtaráin On Saturdays only - free guided tours every hour from 10.30am to 3.30pm leaving from the Visitor Centre. Tickets issued on a first come first served basis on the day, no group bookings. Telephone: for confirmation before arrival. The Phoenix Café Is within the courtyard of the Visitor Centre, serving delicious freshly made meals, coffee & snacks. 4 PHOENIX PARK EVENTS PROGRAMME 2014 FEBRUARY Valentines Eve Thursday 13th February at 6.30pm Romeo & Juliet at Ashtown Castle Scenes from Shakespeare s Romeo & Juliet will be performed on the different levels of Ashtown Castle. For booking enquires please contact phoenixparkevents@gmail.com or telephone MARCH Launch Seachtain na Gaeilge- Saturday the 1st-17th of March Traditional Irish Music & Dance will be performed on Saturday the 1st of March at 2pm in The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Pucá Puppets - Storytelling as Gaeilge will be performed at 12noon & 3pm on the day. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Conas Tá Tú - Coffee Morning as Gaeilge Every Tuesday in March at 11am in The Phoenix Park Café Informal Gathering of people interested in speaking conversational Irish. St Patrick s Day 17th March am-12noon- Celtic Art Workshops for children. Demonstrations on Celtic Book Binding & Stained Glass window art workshops inspired by Harry Clarke. JUNE Midsummer Street Theatre - Chesterfield Avenue Sunday 22nd June from 12-5pm An exciting family day with pop-up fairy tales, myths & legends performed along Chesterfield Avenue. On the day families can interact with theatre, music, storytelling, artists and the natural landscape. 5 AUGUST Classical Music Afternoon - 4 x Sundays in August from 2-4pm A series of light classical concerts suitable for lazy summer afternoons performed in the courtyard of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Heritage Week 23rd- 31st of August 2014 There s lots of fun in store for you during National Heritage Week. From classical music, poetry, theatre, traditional music, storytelling, historical re-enactments, local history walks and talks, food fairs, & traditional skills workshops.there s something for everyone and most events are free! 10 Primary School Modules The modules can be arranged at a time to suit school requirements on weekdays, normally between 10am - 12noon. Module 1 Trees - what would we do without them? Introduction: Identify exotic and native tree species in the arboretum beside the Visitor Centre. Break for 15mins. Then a 20min video on the history of the park, after which the group can look around the visitor s centre, which is self guiding over two floors. Module 2 Discover the animals that live in the park Introduction & power point presentation on deer, squirrels, badgers, and much more. Break for 15mins. Then a 20min video on the history of the park, after which the group can look around the visitor centre, which is self guiding over two floors. Module 3 Step back in time with our Heritage module. Introduction: Video and self guiding tour of the visitor centre. Break for 15 mins. Become a king or queen for the day with a visit to Ashtown Castle and find out about what life was like in medieval times. Module 4 Sustainability Module Introduction: Learn about Sustainability and its impact on the Environment. Break for 15mins Then a 20min video on the history of the park, after which the group can look around the visitor centre, which is self guiding over two floors. Module 5 Recycling Module Learn how to impact on our environment by recycling and reusing everyday items to help reduce our production of waste. Introduction; Break for 15mins Then a 20min video on the history of the park, after which the group can look around the visitor centre, which is self guiding over two floors. The Visitor Centre is located just off the Phoenix Monument beside Áras an Uachtaráin on the main road of the park.
