Each year, volunteers provide thousands of hours of service to parks, programs and community centers, and are essential to our success. Volunteers work in a variety of roles including providing tutoring, athletic coaching and mentoring to youth at community centers; planting flowers and helping with landscaping on park grounds; or assisting with special events such as the Ethnic Enrichment Festival, the Wilderness Run or Kansas City s Big Picnic. KC Parks has formal partnerships established with neighborhood, community, business and not-for-profit organizations for programs, events and projects. These partnerships allow our department to leverage resources and generate citywide interest and support for our system facilities, programs and events. We appreciate you! Rent the BayRider For your Private Party Available for private rental when The Bay is not open to the public. A 1 hour minimum is required and the following fees apply: 1 hour- $90, each additional hour is $60 Add-on Add the BayRider to a partial or whole facility rental for $60 per hour Coaching Want to learn how to ride? Add a coach for $45 per hour Participants must be 48 tall to ride and must have a signed participant wavier on file. Pre-registration is required with a minimum of 7 days advance notice and payment in full at the time of reservation. An ideal time for parents with children under the age of 10, avoid the crowds and lines while the activity pool and sprayground are open just for you. Other areas of the facility are closed during this special program. At The Springs, Mondays are FREE for season pass holder and 1 child. Tillinghast in This demanding layout has hosted major championships including the PGA Kansas City Open in the 1940s and more recently the 2005 USGA Women s Public Links. In 2001 Shoal Creek Golf Course became the new flagship of Kansas City s five courses. These two Championship Courses offer the most skilled players exceptional challenges and depict the true beauty and diversity of the Kansas City landscape. Hodge Park Golf Course in the Northland and Minor Park Golf Course in South KC both offer fun, affordable golf for players of any skill level. The course plays around the old municipal reservoir and is in one of the highest points in the city. Featuring a mix of long open shots and technical woods, this course will take its toll on both your body and your score. Plenty of wind and great views of the city add to the fun. Bring water and some good footwear for the woods. Course 18/5,940 or 6,272ft Swope Park Disc Golf Course 6900 Elmwood The course terrain is moderately hilly and moderately wooded with many elevation changes and tree lined fairways. A 1999 redesign added dual tees on 5 holes and at least 3 pin placements per hole. Swope has a country club atmosphere featuring a club house with deck. Course 18/5,000 or 8,500ft Water Works Park Disc Golf Course 3500 N Oak Trafficway The course terrain is very hilly and moderately wooded. It features many trees with lots of elevation changes, some extreme, and a good combination of long open holes and short accurate ones. The park has stunning skyline views of downtown and the Missouri River. From neighborhood parks to lakes, fountains, trails, and golf courses, the Kansas City parks system provides a wide array of settings and venues from which to choose. Below are some of the more popular wedding ceremony locations: Jacob L. Loose Park and the Laura Conyers Smith Rose Garden W 51st Street and Wornall Road The Rose Garden is the most popular wedding location, but Loose Park also offers a quaint pond area for smaller wedding ceremonies. For details, reservations or information, call Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Robert H. Hodge Park 7000 E Barry Road This authentic 19th century village offers a unique setting. Mt. Ararat Church is a one-room building with vestibule and raised chancel is available for weddings. The church seats up to 120 guests indoors, but you may set up anywhere within the grounds for an outdoor ceremony. For more information, call Mill Creek Park 47th and J.C. Nichols Parkway on The Plaza Home of the famous J.C. Nichols Fountain, Mill Creek Park provides a beautiful setting adjacent to the Country Club Plaza. Theis Park Volker Boulevard and Oak Street Theis Park rests alongside Brush Creek a waterfall and the Volker Memorial Foundation on the south side, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to the north and the Kauffman Memorial Gardens to the east. Southmoreland Park Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Oak Street Just to the west of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Southmoreland Park is a nicely shaded park with lots of tree coverage. Limited availability in June and July due to the annual Shakespeare Festival. Anita B. Gorman Park N Holmes Street at NE Vivion Road Home of the Northland Fountain, one of the few fountains that flows all year long, Gorman Park provides a pretty spot for ceremonies. Swope Memorial in Swope Park 6900 Swope Memorial Drive Just northwest of the golf course clubhouse, Swope Memorial sits upon a cliff, overlooking Swope Park. This location is not recommended if you have more than 150 guests. Richard & Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park Roanoke Parkway and W 47th Street Located on the west edge of the Country Club Plaza, Bloch Cancer Survivors Park is ideal for a smaller ceremony. The location provides pergolas on its south side and a convenient Plaza location. The Concourse in Kessler Park Gladstone Boulevard and Benton Boulevard Curved stone colonnades to the north and a fountain to the south, make this a beautiful and historic northeast Kansas City setting. Spirit of Freedom Fountain or the Hillside Fountain (waterfall) Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard at Cleveland Avenue Situated along Brush Creek, either of these water features provides a beautiful backdrop for your ceremony. Old Red Bridge in Minor Park East of Holmes on Red Bridge Road The Old Red Bridge in Minor Park is home to Kansas City s Love Locks tradition and, as such, is a romantic site for a wedding ceremony. The Old Red Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that sits over the Blue River in South Kansas City. The bridge provides a beautiful, historic and unique setting. The placing of love locks is a custom whereby couples affix a padlock to a bridge, fence, gate or similar fixture so pronouncing their unbreakable and everlasting love. The Old Red Bridge is adjacent to the new bridge located on Red Bridge Road between Holmes and Blue River Road in south Kansas City.
