2 Welcome to the 2014 Netball Season This booklet provides you with all the information that you require for this season ahead including coaches information, training times, matches, venues, etc. Please take the time to read it carefully and if you have any questions please see Miss Macready or Mrs Osborne Miss Sally Macready Netball Co-ordinator Mrs Ann Osborne Head of Sport Competition Dates 19, 26 July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 August 6 September semi finals 14 September finals Match Duration All matches consist of 4 x 10 minute quarters, with 3 minutes at half time and 1 minute between other quarters. A team must have at least 5 players available throughout the game or a forfeit is declared. Uniform Maroon netball skirt Polo shirt or capped sleeve polo shirt White ankle socks School tracksuit or fleece tops are the only acceptable items to be worn with the netball uniform Girls are reminded that when participating in sport: fingernails must be cut short and filed round jewellery is not to be worn hair must be neatly tied back. A uniform is worn with pride and brings respectability to a team when it is worn well. It creates self-respect amongst team members and fosters team morale, as well as representing the teams values. At Roseville we ask that the girls who represent the school are consistent with the expectations put on them when they wear the uniform.

Morning training sessions start at 6:45am and finish at 8:10am. The afternoon sessions start at 3:30pm and finish at 5:00pm. As a matter of courtesy to staff and coaches, we ask that parents are prompt in collecting their daughters from school at the end of the day and likewise when dropping them off in the morning. If it is stated that a training session begins at 6:45am, girls are required to be at the session by that time, not just arriving at the school. By arriving late to a training session the girls risk injury by not participating in the warm up prior to the skill development component. This applies to Saturday as well and girls are required to be at the venue 30 minutes prior to the scheduled match time to warm up and sign on before the start of the game. Girls arriving late will not be allowed to take any further part in the game until their coach considers them fully prepared to do so. It is disruptive to the team, and disrespectful of their coach, if girls are arriving at all times of the morning. Girls may check their team s progressive pointscore on the IGSSA website Go to Sports, Term 3, and then select netball.

4 Registration Costs A fee of $105+ gst will be invoiced on your Term 3 account Captains Duties Ensure all team members sign on with the convener before the game. Each girl must sign her own signature. Check the result sheet at the end of the game, and sign it. Ensure all equipment, including all netball bibs, is packed in to the kit bag. Inability to Play The IGSSA season is a short season and girls are expected to be available for all matches and training sessions. If, for a very valid reason, you are unable to play on a particular date please notify Miss Macready in writing, via on smacready@roseville.nsw.edu.au or on as soon as possible. Pocket Criteria Sport pockets are awarded to girls who represent Roseville at the highest level in the IGSSA competition, who are committed and achieve sporting excellence. To be eligible for a netball pocket you must be in Roseville s 1st Team, attend at least 80% of all training sessions, compete in all matches for the season, and display a positive attitude and good sportsmanship at all times. Wet Weather Training Sessions In the event of poor weather or oval closure information will be updated on the netball page on Rosepod. This method will be used to communicate cancellations and last minute changes to training sessions should they occur during the season. In the case of any changes Rosepod will be updated by 6:30am and after 2:30pm on the day of training. Saturday IGSSA To determine whether a venue is open or closed on a wet weather/extreme heat day, SMS your keyword to Your keyword is the name of the sport and the first initial of the venue. For example, playing netball at Pymble, TEXT netballp. A return SMS will be sent to your phone that gives you the status of your venue - open or closed. Users incur one 55c charge for the combined, sent and received, message. Please check that your phone is able to access and then store the number in your phone for future reference. If you are experiencing difficulties using the SMS service, phone Information about all venues can also be accessed on the IGSSA website at nsw.edu.au/igssa.aspx IGSSA aims to provide the maximum number of playing opportunities for girls and the decision to cancel games is made very carefully, and on a venue by venue basis. Games are only usually cancelled when the weather makes it unsafe to go ahead with the game. The decision is made by the venue convener usually in conjunction with staff, coaches and the AHIGS Sports Director.

5 Due to changeable weather conditions, decisions are generally not made until Saturday morning and each round of play is reviewed to ensure that girls are given every opportunity to play their matches. Should any decision to abandon games be made on Fridays, a message will be posted on the IGSSA website. It is appreciated that parents and girls drive considerable distances to attend Saturday sport and that it is frustrating to arrive at a venue only to find that your game has been cancelled. To minimize this, every attempt is made to communicate information as soon as a decision is made in relation to wet weather. As soon as such information is received by the AHIGS Sports Director, it is recorded on the IGSSA website.

6 Code of Conduct Roseville has adopted the AHIGS-IGSSA Code of Conduct. It is an expectation that all girls, parents, spectators and coaches will abide by these guidelines. A full copy is available from the Sport Department. Principles of the Code of Conduct Participation fosters social, emotional, personal and physical development Participation should be enjoyable Sport must not damage or endanger a school s reputation or the relationship between schools The outcome is relatively unimportant compared to how the game is played Players Code of Conduct Honour your commitment to your team Treat your team members, opponents, officials, etc., with respect and courtesy Arrive at the venue on time Wear the correct uniform Understand the rules of the game and abide by them Never argue with an umpire or any other official Applaud good play, and demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times Violent, abusive and offensive language or behaviour are not acceptable under any circumstances Parents Code of Conduct Applaud good play from all players regardless of team Show respect and courtesy towards all players, coaches, officials and spectators Never criticise an official. If you have a grievance follow the procedure as outlined on the IGSSA website Discipline for breaches of code of behaviour Referees and coaches are requested to note, on the bottom of the result sheet, the name of any girl and her school whose behaviour is unacceptable e.g. any swearing, unsporting gesture or language, etc.
