7 Saturday 15 th Footpaths and Water: sources of culture, life and health Development of the event of the brotherhood of the Waters of Europe The15th of October in 2011, as the closing ceremony of the Eurorando 2011, will be carried out in Granada a collecting of the Waters that the walking from all the participating nations in Europe would have collected from rivers, fountains, lakes, lakes, summits, glaciers, caverns, streams, springs from their own countries. For this event, 12 different routes have been designed starting in the villages closer to the city of Granada that will come together in the Fuente de las Granadas, placed in the centre of the city. This is an emblematic place as it is close to the junction of the two rivers of Granada: * El Genil, collecting the water from the snow of the Mulhacen and Veleta, the highest peaks of the Iberian Peninsula. * El Darro, from which the water that is used for the gardens and fountains in the Alhambra is taken. The twelfth lines of walkers are the symbol of the twelfth European footpaths and each of them will invite the walkers and water carriers (denominated A, the initial letter of Agua -water in Spanish- and their correspondent number) following that order: A-1 : 14,8 km. A-2: 12,4 km. A-3: 9,2 km. A-4 : 9,2 km A-5: 8,2 km. A-6: 7,2 km. A-7 : 13,2 km. A-8 : 7,8 km A-9: 7,3 Km. A-10.13,5 Km. A-11.11,6 km. A-12: 9,5 Km. The twelfth lines will deposit their waters in anphorae that will be located in a special place close to the Fuente de las Granadas. The different countries will pour their Waters in these nazarí pottery anphorae, and once that all of them have poured their Waters in these recipients, the amphorae will be taken to the Alhambra. At the Gate of Justice in the nazarí monument, the anphorae will be taken in a kind of processional parade by European leaders and volunteers towards the Patio de los Leones. There, in the fountain, worldwide recognised by the twelfth lions of stone pouring water through their mouth, all the water from the amphorae will be put together as a symbol of friendship and concord among the countries and cultures of Europe. Thousands of participants at the third Edition of the Eurorando, and the authorities attending the event, will proclaim in such an emblematic place, due to its history and culture, that footpaths and water have been always a source of culture, health and life. And, in our contemporary context, the age of communication and new Technologies, globalization and climate change, it must continue in this fashion for a long time. Pag.7
