2 INTENSIVE SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE PROGRAM (Barrio del Albaicín) This program is designed for university students who want to acquire Spanish language and culture or improve existing knowledge in an intensive format in between semesters or during vacation. Some of the programs main features are: intensive language classes, an interdisciplinary seminar. Formal sessions, as well as workshops and field activities, guided tours to places of historical and artistic interest, The use of Spanish as the working Language throughout the program. All program components follow the Experiential Learning Approach. Classes will be taught by language teachers with extensive experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, professors from the University of Granada, and other professionals The program is based in Granada, a vibrant historic city shaped by a blending of Christian and Muslim traditions. Granada is home to one of the largest universities in Spain. Our school is located in the Albaicin, the antique Moorish neighborhood.

3 PROGRAM COMPONENTS: Intensive Language Study: Spanish This intensive language course is designed to strengthen the students' communicative competency. The students work in the four linguistic areas: oral production, oral comprehension, reading and writing. The course utilizes a wide variety of materials: texts, literature, press articles, radio and television programs. It is divided as follows: Notional-functional Spanish: The study of the grammatical content and functions of the language; development of the following skills: oral and written production and comprehension through activities in and out of the classroom. Thematic Spanish: The study of the language through its thematic contents, offering the students an opportunity to explore different themes considering on students interests, fostering the active use of specialized vocabulary and emphasizing oral production. Culture and Society Seminar The Culture and Society Seminar is designed to provide first hand academic and experiential knowledge about contemporary Spanish society and the social changes the country has undergone in the context of the country s turbulent history, growing diversity, and deeper integration within the European Union. The seminar includes formal sessions as well as field activities and workshops. Students will receive lectures and practical sessions on sociology, arts, economy end politics, offering a comprehensive overview of Spanish society end culture.
