Opening and registration The Latin American and Caribbean Regional Workshop on Ecosystem Services Assessment and Financial Costs and Benefits Associated with the Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Biological Diversity in Ecosystems under Agricultural Production will be held in Buenos Aires from Tuesday, 13 to Friday, 16 September The workshop will start at 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 13 September, and registration will take place at the venue of the meeting at 9 a.m. the same day. 2 3. Documents Participants are kindly reminded to bring their own copies of the pre-session documents for the workshop, as they will be available at the meeting venue in limited quantities only. 4. Visas Attached, as annex I, is a list of countries whose citizens require or do not require an entry visa to Argentina with the corresponding coordinates of the Argentinean diplomatic/consular representation participants should contact for their visas, as appropriate. Participants requiring an entry visa to Argentina are strongly advised to contact, as early as possible, the diplomatic/consular representations of Argentina to allow sufficient time for a visa to be issued as appropriate prior to departure. To facilitate and expedite the issuance of visas, the letter of invitation, nomination, and or funding where applicable should be attached to the visa applications. In the case of any difficulty or query on visa-related matters, participants should contact directly Ms. Laura Solari, the designated focal person, with a copy to: mzaccag@correo.inta.gov.ar. Services to participants Participants will have access to their s, free of charge, at work stations situated within the meeting venue. Other services, such as banks, restaurants, cyber cafés, public telephones, etc. are available in the immediate vicinity of the meeting venue. Please see map attached hereto, as annex IV. 6. Access to Buenos Aires Buenos Aires is serviced by the Ezeiza International Airport. Taxis are available at the airport and there is also a bus shuttle service. Fares are as follows: Buses (recommended) Manuel Tienda León bus stop is located at Terminal A, Ground floor. Attached as annex II is a timetable of the bus shuttle service from and to Ezeiza. The bus fares for a single ticket is AR$ 25 (approximately US$ 9) and the journey takes about 40 minutes. 2
3 Taxis Manuel Tienda León: Taxi stand is located at Terminal A, Ground floor. The taxi fares is AR$ 72 (approximately US$ 26) and the journey takes about 20 minutes. LeCoq Remise: Taxi stand is located on the right hand side of the main arrival hall. Taxis can be called on (11) / 9155 / 9391 / When ordering your taxi, from public phones or Telecom Locutorio, remember to ask for its number plates and colour. Other taxis (black/yellow): (not recommended) The fare is AR$ 35 (approximated US$ 13). 7. Hotel accommodation Attached, as annex III, is a list of hotels with indicative room rates. Participants in the workshop are kindly reminded that they are responsible for making their own hotel accommodation arrangements. For assistance or any queries about hotel accommodation, please directly contact (with a cc to: mzaccag@correo.inta.gov.ar) the designated focal person, Ms. Laura Solari, whose coordinates are indicated under heading 4 above. 8. Access to the meeting venue The workshop will be held at the INTA Communications and Library Building, in the San Telmo neighbourhood. Participants are requested to make their reservations at hotels that are from walking distance to the meeting venue or with easy access to the underground (Subterraneo). Please refer to the map in annex IV. It should be noted that an identification card with photograph (such as passport, driving licence) will be required to enter the INTA Building".. 9. Time zone Buenos Aires time in September will be 3 hours behind GMT. 10. Weather conditions During the month of September in Buenos Aires, the average temperature is 14 C and can reach a maximum of 19 C and a minimum of 10 C. Rain and thunderstorms are not very frequent. 4 11. Voltage volts, the plugs are two-pin type and three pin type. Adapters and converters are required for electrical/household appliances operating on 110 volts (adapters cost about: AR$ 4; and 100 volt converters about AR$ 35). 12. Credit Cards Major credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) are accepted in most hotels and restaurants in Buenos Aires. 13. Exchange rate (as of 15 August 2005) Euro 1 = 3.56 Argentinean Peso (AR$) US$ 1 = 2.88 Argentinean Peso (AR$) 14.
