5 possible to include the new species in a new couplet in the key by Martins & Galileo (2007) (couplet 1 translated): 1. Anterior tubercles of pronotum notably elevated. Paraguay P. machadoi sp. nov. - Anterior tubercles of pronotum slightly elevated (1 ). Elytra with anterior half orangish or reddish, and apical half black, separated by whitish macula or band Elytra reddish or yellowish, except, sometimes, small basal and apical portion, which may be reddish Apomecynini Thomson, 1860 Ypomacena gen. nov. Type species: Ypomacena monnei sp. nov. by original designation Description. Body elliptical, dorsally convex. Frons wider than long. Distinct coronal suture distinctly from clypeus to anterior edge of prothorax. Clypeus large, about two times wider than long; edge close to frons semicircular. Eyes small, narrow, C-shaped; superior ocular lobes very far apart from each other; inferior ocular lobes about three times shorter than gena. Antennal tubercles very far apart from each other. Antennae short, at most reaching base of distal third of elytra; scape very slender, gradually enlarged towards apex; antennomeres III and IV distinctly longer than other antennomeres. Prothorax transverse, slightly wider at base than apex; sides rounded, without distinct tubercle. Pronotum without distinct tubercles. Prosternum hidden by head. Prosternal process wide. Mesosternal process obliquely elevate at base, emarginate at apex. Metasternum short, about as long as mesosternum. Elytra distinctly wider than prothorax at base, basal fourth with strong gibbosity; each elytron with, at least, three distinct, elevate carinae. Femora clavate. Etymology. Anagram of Apomecyna, type genus of Apomecynini. Feminine gender. Remarks. Ypomacena gen. nov. differs from nearly all American genera of Apomecynini by the elliptical body shape, and resembling some genera of Acanthoderini Thomson, 1860, Acanthocinini Blanchard, 1845, and Parmenini Mulsant, Usually, in the American Apomecynini the body is elongate, except in Phrynidius Lacordaire, 1869, and Potiatuca Galileo & Martins, 2006, that have the body shape more similar to Ypomacena gen. nov. This genus differs from the former by the transverse prothorax, by the antennal tubercles very far apart from each other, and by the slender scape. In Phrynidius the prothorax is longitudinal, the antennal tubercles are near each other, and the scape is thicker. From Potiatuca it differs by the distinctly slender scape (distinctly thicker in Phrynidius), and by the prothorax which is less distinctly narrowed at base and apex (distinctly so in Phrynidius). Ypomacena gen. nov. can be included in the alternative of couplet 11, from Breuning (1971) (translated): 11. Metasternum shortened Metasternum of normal length (11). Antennal tubercles distinctly protruding Phrynidius Lacordaire, Antennal tubercles not distinctly protruding (12). Body elongate; elytra without gibbosities Parmenonta Thomson, Body elliptical; elytra with distinct gibbosities ypomacena gen. nov. Key to species of Ypomacena 1. Pronotum distinctly convex at disc; elytral basal gibbosity somewhat small, conical or sub-conical (sometimes slightly elongate), and low; elytra with small, slightly elevate gibbosity about middle (sometimes absent). 10 prothorax (between apices of tubercles), ; anterior width of prothorax, ; posterior width of prothorax, ; humeral width, ; elytral length, The smallest dimensions are those of the holotype. Etymology. Latin, carinata = like a keel; relating to the lateroanterior carina of elytra. Remarks. Cacostola carinata sp. nov. differs from C. sulcipennis Melzer, 1934: anterolateral sides of elytra with carina from humerus to near middle (absent in C. sulcipennis); antennae longer in female (as long as 1.7 times length of elytra) (in C. sulcipennis male = 1.7 times; in female = 1.5 times). From C. apyraiuba Martins & Galileo, 2008, it differs by the antennae slightly shorter in female (as long as 1.8 times elytral length in C. apyraiuba female), and by the scape without ring of dark pubescence (present in C. apyraiuba). New synonyms During the identification of specimens sent to study, we found two new synonyms in Lamiinae. Bebelis lignea (Bates, 1866) Dorcasta lignea Bates, 1866a: 35. Bebelis lignea (Bates, 1866); for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 370 (cat.). Dorcasta prolongata Fisher, 1947: 173. Syn. nov. Bebelis prolongata (Fisher, 1947); for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 372 (cat.). Comparison of the holotype of Dorcasta prolongata with photographs of the holotype and original description of Dorcasta lignea allows us to conclude that they are the same species both currently under Bebelis Thomson, There is no recorded difference in the original descriptions, and the types are very similar in all characters, including the position of the spots of pubescence on head, pronotum and elytra. Thus, Bebelis prolongata is considered herein a new synonym of B. lignea. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii Thomson, 1868 Bisaltes buquetii Thomson, 1868: 111. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii (Thomson, 1868); for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 373 (cat.). Bisaltes batesi Aurivillius, 1923: 609 (cat.). Ptericoptus forsteri Tippmann, 1960: 152, pr. 9, fig. 21a. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) forsteri (Tippmann, 1960); Breuning, 1971: 284 (rev.). Bisaltes (Bisaltes) fuchsi Breuning, 1971: 284; for full synonymic list see Monné, 2014b: 374 (cat.). Syn. nov. Comparison of the original descriptions of Bisaltes (Bisaltes) buquetii and B. (B.) fuchsi, and photographs of the holotype of the latter with specimens of the former deposited at MZSP allows us to conclude that they are the same species. The description of B. (B.) buquetii sensu Breuning (1971) does not agree with the specimens of that species deposited at MZSP or with photograph of holotype of Ptericoptus forsteri Tippmann, 1960, that was synonymized with this species by Tavakilian (1997). Breuning (1971) separated B. (B.) fuchsi of B. (B.) buquetii and B. (B.) fuscoapicalis in the alternative of couplet 3 (translation): 3. Elytra with a very small premedian circular black spot, common to suture B. fuchsi - Elytra without such a spot Third antennal article shorter than fourth, the articles 5 to 11darker at apex B. buquetii - Third antennal article slight longer than fourth, the articles 5 to 11 red monochrome B. fuscoapicalis" In the redescription of B. (B.) buquetii, Breuning also did not mention the presence of a black spot on basal half of elytra. Breuning (1971) separated B. (B.) forsteri of B. (B.) buquetii in the alternative of couplet 2 (translation): 2. Each elytron decorated with a very large dark-brown apical spot Elytra without such a spot (conducting to B. (B.) forsteri, etc.). 11 However, the comparison of the photographs of the types of B. (B.) forsteri and B. (B.) fuchsi shows, very clear, that the apical third of the elytra in both species are identical. This reinforces the conclusion that B. (B.) buquetii sensu Breuning (1971) corresponds to another species however, we could not identify the species involved. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) fuchsi is considered herein a new synonym of B. (B.) buquetii.
