We will welcome you and deliver the necessary documentation, and we will do a detailed review of the program.

2 Overnight in Lima Meals: None Private transfer. DAY 02: LIMA HUARAZ Free time in the morning to walk around Miraflores or Barranco streets. Transfer to the bus station to take a bus to Huaraz (3,050 m. over the sea level). The drive is quite long and tiring (420km in about 8/9 hours), but increasingly scenic as we enter the mountains; the journey includes the crossing of the 4100m Conococha Pass and we should arrive in the evening. A staff member will picks us up and take us to the hotel. Overnight in Huaraz Meals: B Bus VIP Service, 160º Reclination (*). Note: Alternative way to get to huaraz is by plane, ask for flight supplement. DAY 03: HUARAZ - LLANGANUCO LAGOON HUMACCHUCO RURAL COMMUNITY Early morning we ll go to Humacchuco rural community, passing through Callejon de Huaylas towards Yungay village. Then headed to Llanganuco lagoon where we can find its two stunningly beautiful lakes, their emerald colour changes in hue as the sun moves overhead, they are one of the spectacular natural sights of the Callejón de Huaylas. The inferior lake (Chinancocha) is much bigger and deeper than the smaller superior lake (Orconcocha), which is in fact only 5m higher. Deeply wedged in between the Huascarán and Huandoy, whose glaciers can be seen to the right and left. Our local host will tell us about the myth of their origin and the importance of the lakes to the local flora and fauna and the ecosystem. Then we will have a short walk through a quenyual forest where the famous Maria Josefa trail leads towards Humacchuco village where a local healthy meal is waiting for us. If times allow us and we feel lik it, we can walk around the community, do any agriculture activity or simply rest and enjoy the peace. In the afternoon we ll go back to Huaraz. 3 DAY 04: HUARAZ CHAVIN DE HUANTAR Today we ll visit the Archeological Monument of Chavín de Huantar* (900 AC.), considered a sacred and magical place for about thousands of pilgrims from ancient and one of the oldest and most important ceremonial centers in the country. Not only will we visit the archeological site of Chavin, but also its museum and the beautiful Querococha lake along the way. We will get to Chavín at noon. We can have lunch or go straight to the site of Chavín. Guide s lunch is not included, if you d like the guide to go with you, please invite him to lunch. Chavin s iconography, is very interesting, its squares, canals and distinctive symbols such as the stone head, the stone of seven holes and the famous monolithic Lanzón. It is now our time to explore! Later we will visit the National Museum of Chavín de Huantar, our guide will explain lively in detailed the history of Chavín and the importance of this Andean civilization. Free afternoon. Overnight in Chavín Meals: B *Entrances to Monument and Museum of Chavín not included payment in situ 20 peruvian soles. DAY 05: CHAVIN HUARAZ. HUARAZ / TRUJILLO NIGHT BUS After breakfast, we go back to Huaraz. Will have the rest of the day free to rest and wander about. We ll have a hotel at our disposal until bus departure. We recommend a bath at the Monterrico hot springs (not included, see supplements). Transfer to bus station to board Huaraz Trujillo bus, about 8 hours. Overnight on the bus Meals: B, D Bus VIP Service 160º reclination (*). DAY 06: ARRIVAL TO TRUJILLO. FREE DAY We ll arrive in Trujillo at around 7:30 am. A driver will pick us up and transfer to the hotel. Trujillo is the starting point to explore and learn about the legacies of ancient pre-inca civilizations. It also has an interesting architectural heritage, well-preserved Republican style mansions and a deep-rooted culinary tradition based on seafood. After the long trip we will have the day off to rest. Overnight in Trujillo. Meals: B

4 *Early check-in included, you will have immediate access to bedrooms. DAY 07: TEMPLE OF THE SUN AND THE MOON, HUANCHACO, CHANCHAN CITADEL. The Temples of the Sun and Moon are the most visible remains of the ancient Moche capital. The Huaca de la Luna was an important Moche ceremonial center which only admitted privileged people. Its 12 thousand square meters with stunning polychrome murals related to the water worship, agricultural fertility and human sacrifice figures are an outstanding example of the adobe construction technology dominated perfectly by the Moches. Early morning we will make a tour along the archaeological complex located 8 kilometers to the south of Trujillo, we will also pass through the newly opened Museum of Modern Moche Temples. Then we will go to the nearby coast to visit Huanchaco. In this traditional cove fishermen still go fishing by "reed horses" (Caballito de Totora), these artisan rafts that we find represented in the Moche ceramics which tradition has continued until today. We will have lunch in one of its specialized seafood restaurants (not included). After lunch, we will go to the imposing archaeological Chan Chan complex, which quingnam or Chimu language means "resplendent sun." It is the planet's largest adobe city. It was built by the mighty Lordship of Chimu (S. XI to XV AC) who were conquered by the Incas after offering stiff resistance. The city has street, houses, water tanks, pyramids and all the typical work of a large urban center. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and was included on the List of World Heritage in endanger. Before that, we will have a tour to the Temple of the Huaca Arco Iris or Huaca El Dragon, remains of the Chimu culture. We will return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight in Trujillo Meals: B DAY 08: TRUJILLO EL BRUJO AND THE LADY OF CAO CHICLAYO - CHAPARRÍ We will take the Highway Panamericana Norte by private vehicle to the Chicama valley where we can see the extensive sugar cane crops. Before reaching Chocope we will take the road west to "El Brujo" where the archaeological complex consisting of 3 Huacas: Cao, Partida and Prieta are located. In Huaca Prieta the researcher Junnius Bird found evidence of human remains from 5000 BC. In the Huaca Cao polychrome paintings were discovered representing prisoners, dancing, fishing scenes, war and Moche mythological beings. More exciting is the visit to the Tattooed lady of Cao, a ruler of the Moche culture. We will visit her modern museum where we will see the details of the discovery about the Tattooed Lady of Cao s Royal Tombs. She was a major authority in the Moche society who surprised the scientific community due to the delicate work of her tattooed which are perfectly preserved on all over her body. They also found signs that she held the highest

5 position of political power. Before this discovery, it was thought that only men exercised high positions in the ancient Peru. The tour lasts about five hours. Then we will continue on the Panamericana Norte Highway to Chaparrí Reserve. Overnight in Chaparri Meals: B, D DAY 09: CHAPARRÍ TÚCUME Today we will visit one of the best protected areas for dry forests and home to a wide variety of wildlife including many endemic and threatened species as the Spectacled or Andean Bear, the Andean Condor, the White-winged Turkey, the Costeño fox, the Guanaco, and the Tumbes Pitajo. The reserve is named because of the spectacular mountain Cerro Chaparrí dominates the landscape. This mountain was considered sacred by the Mochica Culture and remains so for the healers throughout Peru. Currently it is a model of community conservation and ecotourism project where local people benefit from the protection of their natural resources. Additionally, Chaparrí is a scientific research center dedicated to the dry forest ecosystems and the species that inhabit it. It is during the early hours of the morning that there is more chance to see more wildlife species such as birds and deer. We have three routes: (you will pick the route in situ, after a brief talk to the community guard) a) The Bear Path.- Approximately 1,200 meters (round trip) it takes about 1 hour, recommended for children, old people or people with some kind of handicap. b) The Huachuma Road.- It is the most popular and requested road. It is a short trek with a total length of meters and the duration is about 2 hours. c) Pavas Road.- This one is a little bit longer and requires fitness people. It is recommended for birdwatchers. It may take between 3-4 hours and a distance of 6 km round-trip. Recommendations: Carry a small backpack, a bottle of water, a good hat; avoid white clothing or bright colors, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, binoculars, camera and appropriate footwear for walking in rough terrain. After lunch we will take a private car to Túcume where we will have free time for the rest of the afternoon. The Jjourney to Túcume takes about 2 hours. Upon arrival we will lodge in a country retreat whose architecture is similar to the developed by Moches using local materials such as carob wood and bricks. Overnight in Túcume / Meals: B, L, D DAY 10: ROYAL TOMBS MUSEUM - HUACA RAJADA, SIPÁN

6 We will leave early morning to visit the museum of the Royal Tombs, where we can find the remains of the Lord of Sipan. Located in the city of Lambayeque, this museum replicates a truncated Moche pyramid. We will go through a journey that attempts to replicate the experience of the tomb discovery by archaeologists. The entrance is at the third level through the ramp like the ancient religious centers like the Temple of the Moon. Then we will go down into the museum to finish the tour in a sunken plaza. Note: the museum is closed on Mondays. We will have lunch in Lambayeque (not included). Then we will drive to the Sipan burial complex of Huaca Rajada (33 km south east from Chiclayo) where the intact tomb of an elite character (Moche ac) was found; because of its ornaments and the high degree of technological cultural development it is considered the most important archaeological discovery of the century. We will also visit its museum and excavation of exploration. Overnight in Tucume Meals: B DAY 11: TUCUME PYRAMIDS, POMAC FOREST AND SICAN MUSEUM CHICLAYO / CHACHAPOYAS NIGHT BUS Today we drive into the world of Sican. The Sican Culture (also known as Lambayeque) was born in the eighth century from the ashes of the defunct Moche culture. Its capital, Batan Grande, located in the carob forest of Pomac, was a ceremonial and administrative center where an elite worship the god Sican, and the Moon. The Sican developed textile art, pottery, and a complex hydraulic system. Naylamp, the hero of winged eyes, is its legendary founder and is part of the fascinating mythological world that we are going to know today. We will leave early in the morning to visit the Túcume pyramids, the largest concentration of adobe pyramids on the north coast of Peru. According to evaluations, over 130 million adobe bricks dried in the sun were needed to build the largest pyramid 450 m long, 100 wide and 40 high. Unlike Egypt, the pyramids of South and Central America had no point, but large platforms where the temples were located. Many myths are still associated with the site. We will walk around the area, visit the local museum, and find out about the "Educational Program for Conservation" which aims to involve the local rural community in its sustainable development plans based on the conservation of natural and cultural heritage. Eleven kilometers from Tucume is the Pomac Forest Historical Sanctuary, political and religious center of the Sican culture which flourished in the Lambayeque region after the collapse of the Moche domain, around the year 600 BC. Crossing La Leche River, the Japanese archaeologist Izumi Shimada discovered two important tombs in the the Huaca "El Loro" belonging to a high dignitary and accompanied by countless pieces of gold. Here, in 1937 great discoveries were made like stylized golden Tumis and pieces from all eras of the ancient Peru.

7 Then we will go to Ferreñafe where we will visit the Sicán Museum opened in This Sican Archeological Project was the result of 23 years of continuous research. Late afternoon we will pick you up to go to the bus station to take the night bus to Chachapoyas (2,335 meters above the sea level), the capital of Amazonas, an area still unknown by conventional tourism and it is only accessible by land. The bus will leave at night at 21:00 hrs. The trip extends from the coast through the Andes to this geographically characterized by both Andean and Amazonian areas. The northern part of the Andes of Peru is less steep than the south. The Amazonian jungle offers a large mountainous or high forest area so-called cloud Forest which offers a particularly beautiful landscape. Overnight on the bus Meals: B, D Bus VIP Service 160º reclination (*). DAY 12: CHACHAPOYAS, HUANCAS POTTERS AND SONCHE CANYON The bus arrives at Chachapoyas at around 06:00 am. Someone from our staff will be waiting to take us to the hotel. We After some rest and breakfast we ll have a visit around the small but nicely preserved city of Chachapoyas. Afterwards we ll go to Huancas village well-known for its pottery and other crafts. Then to the Sonche Canyon to see the beautiful panoramic views, a great spot to watch eagles soaring above the canyon. Note: Early check-in included. Overnight in Chachapoyas Meals: B DAY 13: REVASH MAUSOLEUMS AND LEIMEBAMBA MUSEUM Visiting the Leimebamba museum and Revash mausoleums allows us to know the main features of the Chachapoyas culture. To visit the Mausoleums of Revash there are two alternatives: an uphill walk of 2 hours or horseback riding this same trail. On the way, we will observe different mausoleums built by the Chachapoyas, which are stationed on ledges of the Revash cliff. Then we will descend (1.5 hours) to the vehicle to continue towards Leimebamba which is 30 kilometers away. The Leimebamba Museum is 5 km from the town, displays 219 mummies and an archaeological collection from the Chachapoyas - Inca culture, rescued from the Lake of the Condors in This lagoon, with very difficult access, is located nine hours from Leimebamba by horse. The museum, though small, is very well organized and allows us to study historically the Chachapoyas culture, and learn about the work and discoveries that are made around it.it also contains a number of objects of this culture.

8 We will have lunch at a nearby restaurant and then return. Overnight in Leimebamba Meals: B, L, D DAY 14: KUELAP FORTRESS This day we will visit the impressive Kuelap fortress for which we must prepare early. The landscape of this place is unique because it is located on the top of a mountain surrounded by a cloud forest. On the way, we will visit small villages, such as the Maria village where the villagers have been trained by some NGOs to provide accommodation and food, and are working to integrate local people in the tourist circuits. We will stop for a moment to pre order our lunch and maybe take local herbal tea. From the faraway we will catch a glimpse of the stone fortress that dominates the Utcubamba valley. The fortified citadel of Kuelap belongs to the main architectural Culture of the Chachapoyas strategically built on a mountain ridge on the left bank of the Utcubamba valley (3.030 meters above the sea). Kuelap exceeds all expectations for their gigantic walls that reach 20 meters high forming circular structures hosting platforms between houses and temples. The citadel is partially covered with trees laden with bromeliads, orchids, ferns, mosses, fungi and lichens. We will walk around the complex and we will go back to have lunch at the Maria Village. Later we will take a turn to Cocachimba to spend the night at the Gocta Lodge. If it is rainy we will hear the murmur of a waterfall deep in the forest. Overnight in Gocta Meals: B, L, C. DAY 15: GOCTA WATERFALLS Early morning, the daylight will allow us to distinguish in the distance our destination: Gocta waterfall. It is the third highest waterfall in the world (771 meters). The surrounding landscape is beautiful and remote; far away we could see a green set of rock walls that are covered in vegetation. In rainy weather, dozens of smaller waterfalls are sighted in the distance. Here, most of the time, there is no phone or internet coverage. Until recently the Gocta waterfall was inaccessible, very few visitors. Today it is possible to reach its base; just on foot (part of the way can be made by horse, transportation of the inhabitants of the area). The Cocachimba community where the waterfall is located has been organized with the support of an international NGO to provide guiding services and basic accommodations to the visitors. The trail is managed and preserved by the organization as a vehicle to generate additional income. We can rent boots and ponchos if it is necessary.

9 The trek will last six hours. (three hours each way). If we depart early we will have opportunities to observe toucans, parrots and the famous cock of the rock. Along the route we will enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife. We will hear the roar of the waterfall as we approached and we could walk within a few meters. We will have the opportunity to bath (depending on time of year). We could have a picnic ordered in the hostel the day before (not included), after the picnic we will return to village of Cocachimba where we will have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy nature and the facilities of the hotel. Overnight in Gocta Meals: B, LB DAY 16: GOCTA TARAPOTO. FLIGHT TO LIMA After breakfast (approx. 08:00 am) we will check out the Gocta Lodge and we will go to the Huembo Interpretation Centre where we could observe an endemic wonderful hummingbird declared in Birding World's Fair as "the most beautiful in the world due to its long forked feather like a type of racket or spatula. Half an hour later we will pass by the Pomacocha lagoon named that way because cougars once came down to drink. Shortly after we will stop at the viewpoint of Miguel Pardo open about 2,270 m, where we will see the spectacular panorama of the forest protection in Alto Mayo. Before reaching the reserved area of Yacumama we will visit Tumbes area where we will take a short walk down a path to visit this new forest ecosystem between mountain forest and the Amazon basin. We will continue walking along a paved road which also allows us to see the effects of deforestation and increasing pressure in areas of extensive cultivation. We will arrive in Tarapoto a at approximately 17:00 hours. You will be transfer to the airport to board the flight to Lima. Once you arrive in Lima you will be transfer to the hotel Once you arrive in Lima you will be transfer to the hotel in Miraflores Overnight in Lima Meals: B DAY 17: INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT Transfer to the airport to take the International flight. - Meals: B Private transfer.
