2 Favourite campsites around New South Wales These are some of our favourite campsites around New South Wales. We have selected a few from each region around the state of which we consider to be some of the best around. We hope these will inspire you to find your own favourites aroound the great state of New South Wales. Central West Big River Camping Area Goulburn River National Park Bridle Track Camping Areas Bathurst Area This 4wd only accessible site is perched above the beautiful Goulburn River. It is well grassed with shady spots available and easy access to the river to launch the canoe. Goulburn River National Park is about 40km south of Merriwa with access to the camping areas including Big River via Mogo Road from the township of Wollar. Facilities here include picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets Scattered along the Macquarie Turon Parkway beside the Bridle Track on the bank of the Macquarie River are numerous delightful camping areas. Some are more shaded than others with each having its own attraction. The Bridle Track is located between Bathurst and Hill End in central western NSW. AWD access to the Bridle Track is recommended with the Monaghans Bluff section about half way along closed to all traffic due to a large landslide in Access is available from the south via Turondale Road from Bathurst or from the north via Hill End township. 3 Batsh Camp Government Town Camping Area Yerranderie Blue Mountains National Park This top little campsite hidden deep in the forest is located along the Oberon Colong Stock Route on the way to historic Yerranderie. Facilities here include fire pits and pit toilets. Located on the outskirts of the historic ghost town of Yerranderie is this large open grassy camping area with plenty of room for hoards of campers. Facilities here include fire pits and pit toilets. Newnes Ruins Camping Area Wollemi National Park The Barracks Camping Area Coolah Tops National Parks Located on the eastern side of the Wolgan River near the historic ruins of the old Oil Shale Mining complex this is a great vspot to camp whilst checking out the ruins. Accessible only by 4wd vehicles after fording the Wolgan River. Facilities here include picnic tables, firee pits and pit toilets. Located high up on a plateau just east of Coolah this is a very scenic national park great for bushwalking and four wheel driving. Views from the lookouts are breathtaking. Facilities here include a shelter shed, picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets.

4 South Coast Green Patch Camping Area Booderee National Park Killalea Camping Area Killalea State Park This large well laid out camping area has numerous sites catering for all styles of camping setups from walk in tent based to drive in caravan and campervan sites. It is located on the beautiful shores of Jervis Bay.Facilities here include picnic tables, gas barbecues, hot showers and toilets.fees apply and advance booking are essential. This park is a great alternative to a caravan park and with surf beaches on your doorstep it is a popular weekend and holiday destination. Located between the coastal hubbs of Shellharbour and Kiama it is easily accessible and is within a short drive to many local attractions and amenities. Perched high on a hill with great views facilities here include picnic tables and shelter, electric and wood barbecues, hot showers and toilets. Fees apply and bookings are recommended. Pretty Beach Camping Area Murramarang National Park Six Mile Creek Rest Area South East Forests National Park This is a top beachside camping spot just north of Batemans Bay in the northern section of Murramarang National Park. It is very popular during weekend and holiday times so advance bookings are essential. Facilities here include electric barbecues, hot showers, toilets, laundry facilities and even some powered sites available. Fees apply. This well shaded secluded site is located beside Six Mile Creek and easily accessible to conventional vehicles as well as camper trailers via Tantawangalo Mountain Road which heads west from the village of Candelo. This section of South East Forests National Park is south west of Bega. There is a short walk from here to a series of delightful cascades as well. Facilities here include fire pits and pit toilets.

5 New England Bowling Alley Point Recreation Reserve Peel Valley Dangars Falls and Gorge Camping Area Oxley Wild Rivers National Park This tranquil spot is located on the shores of Chaffey Dam in the delightful Peel Valley about 40km south east of Tamworth. It is easily accessible to conventional vehicles as well as camper trailers via the Fossikers Way. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues, toilets and coin operated hot showers. Camping fees apply and are payable at an onsite honesty box. Perched on top of the picturesque gorge within an easy walking distance to the falls this is a great camp spot in this region. Access is via Dangar Falls Road. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues and p[it toilets. Dawsons Spring Camping Area Mount Kaputar National Park Ironbark Camping Area Kings Plains National Park High up near the summit of Mt Kaputar in the New England region of New South Wales is this great high country camp. Numerous individual sites as well as self contained cabin accommodation is available. Mt Kaputar National Park is easily accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers via Kaputar Road from the town of Narrabri. Facilities here include picnic tables, shelter, wood and gas barbecues, toilets and hot showers. Camping fees apply and are payable at self registration stations in the park. High up on the New England tablelands of New South Wales Kings Plains National Park is a stunning park to the north west of Glen Innes. It is easily accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers via Kings Plains Road from Inverell. Facilities here include picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets.

6 Koreelah Creek Camping Area Koreelah National Park Mann River Nature Reserve Glen Innes Area This is a little not so well known park in the far north of the New England tablelands of New South Wales near the village of Woodenbong not far from the Queensland border. The park is dry weather access only and is accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers via White Swamp Road off the Mt Lindesay Highway. Facilities here include picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets. Another great free camping area on the banks of the Mann River along the Old Glen Innes Grafton Road. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues and pit toilets. Rocky River Fossicking Area Uralla Area This is a great little free camping area not far off the New England Highway near Uralla in the New England Tablelands. Access is west of Uralla via Kingstown and Devoncourt Roads. Facilities here include picnic tables, pit toilets, and is pet friendly.

7 North Coast Black Rocks Camping Area Bundjalung National Park Bluff Picnic and Camping Area Mt Boss State Forest This is a top beach side camping area on the north coast. It has numerous individual sites so even when it is busy you will still have your privacy. Access is via The Gap Road off the Pacific Highway south of Woodburn. Facilities here include picnic tables, gas and wood barbecues, pit toilets and even a clothesline to hang the beach towels at selected campsites. Located along the picturesque Wilson River deep within the rainforest this is the perfect spot to unwind for a day or two. Access is via Hastings Forest Road north west of Wauchope. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues and pit toilets. Copeland Reserve Camping Area Gloucester Area Dingo Tops Camping Area Tapin Tops National Park This is a great free camping spot on route to the world famous Barrington Tops. It is a large open grassy site beside a creek with limited shade. Access is via the Gloucester Scone Road west of Barrington township. Facilities here include picnic tables, shelter, wood barbecue and pit toilets. Located in the ranges to the west of the Mid North Coast Region of New South Wales. This is a great spot to base yourself whilst exploring these ranges. Located at the junction of Dingo Tops and Knodingbul Roads it is easily accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers. Facilities here include picnic tables, shelter, wood barbecues and pit toilets. Camping fees apply and are payable at a self registration station at the camping area.

8 Iron Pot Creek Camping Area Kylie s Beach Camping Area Toonumbar National Park Crowdy Bay National Park Hidden deep with lush rainforest this is an absolute must when up the north coast. The wildlife and scenery will amaze you. Access is via Murray Scrub Road north west of Kyogle. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues and pit toilets. Another superb camping area along this picturesque coastline. Access is via Diamond Head Road south of Laurieton. Facilities here include wood barbecues, pit toilets and an outdoor cold shower. Camping and vehicle entry fees apply. Melaleuca Camping Area Neranie Head Camping Area Limeburners Creek National Park Myall Lakes National Park This is a beautiful large grassy camping area beside the creek a stone s throw away from the beach. Access is via Point Plomer Road from Crescent Head. Facilities here include pit toilets. This is a top little spot right on the lakes edge. It is a large grassed area with numerous individually numbered sites. Access is via Seal Rocks Road off the Lakes Way. Facilities here include picnic tables and gas barbecues and pit toilets. Camping and vehicle entry fees apply.

9 Sheepstation Creek Camping Area Border Ranges National Park Swans Crossing Camping Area Kerewong State Forest Hidden within this world heritage listed national park this delightful shady camping area has numerous secluded camping bays surrounding a central larger grassed area. Easily accessible to camper trailers and even caravans via the Tweed Range Scenic Drive. Facilities here include picnic tables and shelter, wood barbecues and pit toilets,. Camping and vehicle entry fees apply. This idyllic large grassed camping area is located deep within the Kerewong State Forest south of Wauchope. Access is via Upsalls Creek Rd west of Kendall. Facilities here include pit toilets and is pet friendly.

10 Snowy Mountains Bullocks Hill Horse Camp Kosciuszko National Park Cooleman Mountain Camping Area Kosciuszko National Park One of the many horse camps scattered throughout Kosciuszko National Park. Bullocks Hill is just off the Snowy Mountains Highway in the north of the national park and north of the Mount Selwyn turn off. Facilities here include fire pits, pit toilets and horse yard. This large grassed area on top of Coleman Mountain is accessed along Blue Waterholes Road off Long Plain Road in the northern section of Kosciuszko National Park. Expect snow anytime of year up here. It is accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers off the Snowy Mountains Highway west of Kiandra. Facilities here include pit toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. Denison Camping Area Kosciuszko National Park Three Mile Dam Camping Area Kosciuszko National Park Located to the north of Lake Eucumbene this large grassed open area overlooks the upper reaches of the lake. It is easily accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers off the Snowy Mountains Highway east of Delaneys Hut. Facilities here include picnic tables, fire pits and pit toilets. Located on the shores of Three Mile Dam in the northern section of Kosciuszko National Park just near the entrance to Mount Selwyn Ski Fields. Only accessible in the summer months as it becomes snowbound during the winter. Facilities here include picnic tables, wood barbecues and pit toilets.

11 Western and Outback Culgoa River Camping Area Culgoa National Park Homestead Creek Camping Area Mutawintji National Park Located in the far north of New South Wales on the Queensland border this remote park has the Culgoa River running through it. It is a great spot to escape or to wet a line with the river only a short walk from the camping area. The park is accessible to conventional vehicles and camper trailers but an AWD or 4WD is recommended. Access from the south is via the locality of Goodooga near Weilmoringle north of Brewarrina and north east of Bourke or from the north via Culgoa Floodplain National Park in Queensland. Main Camp Mungo National Park North East of Broken Hill Mutawintji National Park is rich in Aboriginal history and culture with rock art galleries located in the park. There are also scenic gorges to explore and breayhtaking lookouts. The adjoining Mutawintji Historic Site is accessible via guided tour and includes some of the best examples of Aboriginal Rock Art in the state. Facilities at Homestead Creek Camping Area include picnic tables, shelter, gas and wood barbecues, hot showers and toilets. Fees apply and are payable at a self registration station at the park. Mount Wood Campground Sturt National Park This world heritage listed park south east of Broken Hill includes the famous wind and weather sculpted Walls of China and the historic Mungo Woolshed and shearers quarters which is also available as accommodation, another option if you want a night out of the tent. Facilities at Main Camp include picnic tables, gas and wood barbecues and pit toilets. Fees apply and are payable at a self registration station at the park. Located in the far north west corner of New South Wales near the tiny outback town of Tibooburra Sturt National Park contains some of the states best red snad dunes, jump-up country and gibber plains. Mount Wood is located in the east of the park in gibber plain country. Facilities at the campground include picnic tables, shelter, gas barbecues and pit toilets. No fires are permitted in Sturt National Park. Fees apply and are payable at a self registration station at the park.
