2 SPORTS AND CULTURE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL Engadin St. Moritz The Engadin has a long tradition of golf at the highest level. In 2018, the Engadine Golf Club celebrates its 125 th anniversary. This is Switzerland s oldest golf club and a real institution. The club s magnificent courses in Samedan und Zuoz lie at an altitude of 1,700 metres in an unrivalled natural setting. When we consider that as far back as 1889 a 9-hole course was laid out by Lake St. Moritz for a while, we can even say that the Engadin is the cradle of Swiss golf. Alongside golf, the Engadin St. Moritz holiday region offers an endless variety of other sporting activities. This year, the theme of the Swiss mountain summer is Back to nature. And for an impressive and eco-friendly experience of nature, it is hard to beat the Engadin. Hardly any other Alpine destination can offer its guests such a variety of pristine and spectacular natural landscapes. Explore on foot, by mountain bike or e-bike or on horseback; sail or windsurf across the sparkling lakes; play the scenic golf courses: whatever your preference, the Engadin offers an inspiring setting and a tremendous variety of possibilities for finding your way back to nature and experiencing it up close. You can look forward to a close-up experience of culture, too, in the Upper Engadin. The organisers of leading events such as the Festival da Jazz, Opera St. Moritz, Engadin Festival and the Nietzsche Colloquium invite worldclass artists and renowned thinkers to a variety of small but stylish venues in historic buildings or surrounded by nature. With our attractive Mountain railways and cableways included offer, you can access our uplifting mountain landscapes easily and inexpensively. Any stay of more than one night at a participating hotel or holiday apartment includes your ticket for travel on up to 13 cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts and funiculars in Engadin St. Moritz. Treat yourself to an escape, let yourself be inspired by our dramatic natural landscapes and enjoy an unforgettable holiday in Engadin St. Moritz whatever your budget. Gerhard Walter, CEO Engadin St. Moritz

26 Page 24 Sports SPORTS A WORLD OF OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Kitesurfing on Lake Silvaplana Adventures on rivers and lakes Sailing Glorious wind conditions as well as spectacular mountain scenery make the lakes of the Engadin (1,800m/5,900ft above sea level) a paradise for sailors. Every day around noon, the Maloja wind builds up to force 3-6 and drops again only at sunset. The lakes and rivers of the Engadin also offer excellent fishing. Further information and details of other water sports: water-sports Kitesurfing Enthusiasts of this graceful sport have long appreciated the superb conditions on Lake Silvaplana. The dependable Maloja wind makes for speeds of up to 80km/h (50mph), with jumps as high as 30m (100ft) and flights lasting up to 20 seconds. Windsurfing and stand-up paddling The play of wind on water is a sight guaranteed to set the pulse of windsurfers racing as they catch their first glimpse of beautiful Lake Silvaplana. Mornings, before the wind has built up, are perfect for stand-up paddling: set off across the mirror-like surface of any of the Engadin lakes and enjoy the blissful tranquillity.

27 Sports Page 25 Canoeing and kayaking The beautiful Engadin lakes, framed by breathtaking mountain scenery, are ideal for exploring at leisure by canoe. Thrill-seekers will enjoy the high-adrenalin alternative: a guided kayak trip along the wild river Inn. Swimming As well as the four big lakes along the main valley, the Engadin is home to many smaller lakes and pools hidden in the mountain forests, perfect for a refreshing dip on hot summer days. Among the most attractive are the Lägh da Cavloc near Maloja; the Lej Nair, whose surface mirrors the massif of the Piz Corvatsch; the Lej Marsch, just below the Lej Nair; the popular Lej da Staz; and the golf lakes outside Samedan. Mountaineering, climbing and hiking up high With numerous peaks topping 3,000m (10,000ft), the Engadin offers a thrilling variety of challenges for mountaineers. Even without ice axe and crampons you can enjoy spectacular high-altitude adventure: hiking boots and poles are all you need to explore the attractive Alpine routes with their distinctive white-blue-white markings. More thrills are to be had at the via ferratas (fixed-cable climbs) of La Resgia and Piz Trovat, at the high-rope adventure course near Pontresina and on the 17 rock climbing walls, which are suitable for beginners and families as well as experienced climbers. In poor weather, the stylish Serlas Parc indoor climbing centre offers the chance to improve your skills, whatever your level of ability. 30 Page 28 Authentic nature AUTHENTIC NATURE EXPERIENCE AUTHENTIC NATURE Morteratsch Glacier and the Bernina massif Climate and weather in the Engadin Further information on the region s unspoilt nature: authentic-nature The Engadin enjoys a dry, continental climate. This is characterised by low humidity and great variations in temperature between summer and winter and between day and night. In summer, on sunny days, the celebrated Maloja wind usually rises around midday, reaching speeds of about 40kph (25mph) bringing a refreshing coolness and providing excellent conditions for windsurfers, kitesurfers, sailors and glider pilots. The fresh mountain air also makes for a wholesome night s rest: it is well worth sleeping with the windows open. The region is famously sun-blessed, with the number of sunny days well above average. On those occasions when the sun chooses not to shine, the Engadin still offers plenty to do remaining true to its reputation as an exciting holiday destination full of variety.

31 Authentic nature Page 29 Glaciers in the Engadin The Morteratsch Glacier stretches around 5.5km (3.5 miles), making it the longest in the Engadin and the tenth-longest in Switzerland. About 160 years ago, during the Little Ice Age, it reached almost to where Morteratsch station stands today. The mighty lateral moraines piled high with rock debris, which show the extent of the glacier in 1850, still dominate the flanks of the valley. Enchanting forests of larch and Swiss stone pine The spectacular display of colours staged by the larch trees through the seasons is one of the striking features of the Engadin. The pale green shoots, golden pollen cones and red cone blossoms of spring give way in summer to luscious green cones and needles. In autumn, the turning needles blanket the valley in gold. Also distinctive is the Swiss stone pine or Arolla pine: superbly adapted to the harsh winter climate, it can grow to 1,000 years old. One of the Engadin s oldest specimens stands on the slopes of Muottas da Schlarigna. These Swiss stone pines can withstand temperatures ranging from +40 to -47 C (+104 to -53 F), and so form the upper limits of the mountain forests. The tree also has medicinal properties: its scent has a relaxing, soothing effect on the body. National Park Special Discover the wild beauty of Switzerland s only national park! A stay of more than 1 night at a participating hotel includes a graubündenpass (valid 2 out of 7 days or 5 out of 14 days in either of the zones (north/south) of Graubünden s public transport network) plus admission to the National Park Centre in Zernez. 2 nights from CHF 261. per person sharing a double room in a 3-star hotel. nationalparkspecial-en Swiss National Park Founded more than 100 years ago, the Swiss National Park is the oldest in central Europe and Switzerland s largest area of wilderness. In 1864, the St. Moritz hotelier Johannes Badrutt invented Alpine winter tourism here. Since then, the resort has staged two Olympic Winter Games (in 1928 and 1948) and numerous ski and bobsleigh world championships. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships took place in St. Moritz for the fifth time during the winter season 2016/17. The summer season, too, offers a great variety of original sports and leisure activities as well as cultural attractions, seductive shopping and a packed calendar of world-class events. The superlative hotels and award-winning restaurants are also open throughout the summer. This attractive combination of nature, sports, culture, glamour and tranquillity, together with a beautiful lakeside location, makes St. Moritz the jewel in the Engadin s crown. St. Moritz is also famous worldwide for its champagne climate not a reference to its champagne-drinking holiday visitors, but to the sparkling and invigorating climate of the Engadin. The geographical location on the southern side of the Alps enables St. Moritz and the whole Engadin to benefit from Italy s warm climate in summer.

35 St. Moritz Page 33 The orientation of the broad valley, open to the south-west and the sun, gives rise to wonderfully bright, warmth-giving sunshine. Summer temperatures are never oppressive, however, thanks to the refreshing Maloja wind that blows from the south-west in sunny weather, bringing a pleasant coolness. These specific climatic factors, together with the high altitude at 1,800m (5,900ft) and the beauty of the landscape, all have a stimulating effect on the body in particular on respiration, circulation and blood formation. Sports enthusiasts and athletes appreciate the altitude-training possibilities here for example for athletics, triathlon, mountain biking or cycle racing. St. Moritz is home to an unrivalled concentration of 5-star hotels. These prestigious establishments, with their glamorous, elegant atmosphere and worldclass restaurants, are complemented by a range of other welcoming hotels and restaurants serving a mouth-watering variety of local, national and international cuisine. In addition, numerous exclusive restaurants showered with Gault- Millau points and Michelin stars serve a wealth of gastronomic treats to suit every taste. Stroll around the local shops and you re guaranteed a few surprises. Many well-known designers are represented with their own elegant boutiques. Traditional sports suppliers, tempting souvenir and gift shops and mouth-watering delicatessens all add to the wide variety of exclusive shopping on offer in this chic Alpine town. Turn off the main streets and into one of the small side alleys and you ll find quaint shops where you can pick up genuine Engadin products and perhaps make the odd lucky find to round off your shopping adventure. For a thrilling evening, nothing beats a visit to the Casino St. Moritz in the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains, where you can try your luck at roulette, blackjack or a variety of other games. Glamorous spa tradition St. Moritz, whose tradition of bathing in mineral springs dates back 3,500 years, has been awarded the Wellness Destination quality seal by the Swiss Tourism Federation. 56 Page 54 Celerina CELERINA Celerina Tourist Information CH-7505 Celerina T F celerina@estm.ch celerina Just because St. Moritz is its neighbour does not mean that Celerina stands in the former s shadow; on the contrary, this is the sunniest spot in the Engadin. Celerina s shining attractions also include its charming village centre, with its picturesque Engadin houses, and its incomparable range of leisure activities. The cable car will whisk you up to dizzying heights, with magnificent views all around. Mountain bikers will find challenging trails on the Corviglia, families a large playground high up at Marguns, and hikers an abundance of spectacular paths. The wide expanses of the main valley, too, cast a spell on visitors: fragrant larch forests frame the path to Lake Staz, one of the most romantic places in the whole of the Engadin. Basking in the sunshine on a rocky spur is the village landmark, the 14 th -century church of San Gian. Thanks to its central location, Celerina is just a hop from other highlights in the Engadin. In the evenings, too, the resort lives up to its reputation for variety perhaps with a jazz concert in an elegant hotel ballroom. In August, the resort hosts the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and all year round there are restaurants that serve the spirit of the Engadin in the form of mouth-watering local cuisine. 58 Page 56 Silvaplana SILVAPLANA Silvaplana Tourist Information CH-7513 Silvaplana T F silvaplana@estm.ch silvaplana Silvaplana is a lively, young and trendy hotspot in the Engadin. Set in beautiful, unspoilt scenery, at the heart of the wide, lake-strewn valley of the Upper Engadin, the innovative holiday resort has developed into a major international destination for sailing enthusiasts, windsurfers and kitesurfers, with its own unique lifestyle. The conditions for water sports are the finest far and wide: with the reliability of a Swiss watch, the Maloja wind rises around noon, causing sails to billow and kites to dance across the waves. The sight is especially impressive during big international competitions such as the Engadinwind, the windsurfing and kitesurfing regatta and the Engadin Surf Marathon on Lake Silvaplana. The resort is also known as the gateway to the Engadin, flanked by a resplendent row of imposing 3,000-metre (10,000ft) peaks including the local mountain Corvatsch which means that mountain bikers and hikers, too, find countless opportunities for high thrills right on the hotel doorstep. Guests who prefer a more relaxing pastime can pick up a rod and try their luck fishing in the lakes. Just as varied as the range of outdoor activities on offer is the lively hotel and restaurant scene in the three districts of Silvaplana, Champfèr and Surlej: refreshingly young, innovative and dynamic. Guests appreciate the peaceful tranquillity in a magnificent landscape, which offers a wonderfully enriching contrast to everyday life; they also value the relaxed style of Sils s hotels, guesthouses and holiday homes. With just 800 inhabitants, Sils is peaceful, relaxed and inviting. The village lies idyllically between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana at the entrance to the Val Fex, which visitors can explore on a romantic ride by horse-drawn carriage. Even a gentle stroll reveals the glories of this spacious landscape flooded with light, said to radiate a special energy. Those setting their sights higher find scenic and varied hiking and mountain biking trails up on Furtschellas, the local peak. Another way to enjoy the magnificent mountain landscape is on a trip on Europe s highest-altitude scheduled boat service on Lake Sils. The village also charms guests with its performances of classical music on Sunday afternoons, readings, talks, guided tours, theatre shows and exhibitions. During summer, Sils presents five cultural gems: the Sils Hesse Days; a series of recitals performed on a raft in a picturesque bay by the Chastè peninsula; the Kunst- und LiteraTourtage ( Sils art and literature days ); the Nietzsche Colloquium; and the Resonanzen international culture festival. 63 Maloja Page 61 MALOJA Maloja Tourist Information CH-7516 Maloja T F maloja@estm.ch maloja Maloja the village at the mountain pass with a distinctly artistic touch. Here on the border with Italianspeaking Switzerland, visitors appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, the spirit of famous artists, and the unique natural and cultural heritage of a mountain pass region. The fascinating interplay of light and shadow has long drawn artists. Giovanni Segantini chose Maloja as his final home as well as the setting for many of his paintings of nature. Giovanni Giacometti, the father of Alberto Giacometti, also painted here. 67 Bever Page 65 BEVER Bever Tourist Information CH-7502 Bever T F bever@estm.ch bever In the heart of the expansive, high valley of the Engadin, the charming village of Bever is a particularly idyllic destination for families. Bever delights in letting visitors into its little poetic secrets such as its delightful gardens, its quaint windows set deep into thick stone walls, and its abundance of flowers adorning step railings and balcony balustrades. The mighty church tower rises towards the blue sky and boldly strikes the time for the inhabitants time that seems to pass at a more leisurely pace than elsewhere. The sun, too, seems particularly kind to this pretty little village. However, Bever s most beautiful stories are told just beyond the confines of the village along the Fairy Trail through the Bever Valley. A path guides visitors through unspoilt nature from one fairy story to the next, all of them penned by Engadin women authors and brought to life by captivating sculptures created by local artists. These works mark the stations along the Fairy Trail and incorporate giant books with stories about witches, bears and fairies. Rumour has it that such fairy-tale characters may even come to life in the enchanted Bever valley. The former farming village of Chamues-ch, by contrast, is situated at the gateway to the mysterious valley of the chamois, the Val Chamuera. The people here are proud of the beautifully adorned farmhouses and patrician houses from the 16 th - and 17 th centuries such as the Chesa Merleda, with its bright white crenellated walls, the Albertini houses, with their ornate facades, and the impressive Chesa Sandoz. They are proud, too, of the Gasthaus Krone: a hotel more than 450 years old known for its superb cuisine and 15 GaultMillau points. The sun-blessed village stretches picturesquely between rugged peaks and fragrant pine forests, along the young river Inn and across the Engadin valley floor. Although this village, the smallest in the Upper Engadin, has just 200 inhabitants, it nevertheless succeeds in captivating visitors in a big way, thanks to its typical Engadin houses and its carefully fostered Romansh culture. Madulain enjoys an idyllic setting by the river Inn, far removed from the rest of the world, basking in the sun. Inline skaters, mountain bikers, horse riders and hikers enjoy a wide variety of trails. Although the village appears to be rather shy, it still knows how to impress visitors: such as with the Guardaval ruins dating from the 13 th century, the largest castle complex in the Upper Engadin. Or with an unforgettable visit to the legendary Es-cha hut, which stands at the foot of the Piz Kesch proud, burnished by the sun and boasting spectacular views. Some of the most beautiful hikes pass this way. And if you were to believe the entries in the visitors book, the mountain hut certainly lives up to its claim of being a haven in the storm. A visit is more impressive still when the weather is fine which is often the case, as the Engadin enjoys levels of sunshine well above the average. The hike from the village centre takes just two hours: the climb is well worth the effort! HOTEL CHESA STÜVA COLANI Fully restored in every detail in 2013 using the finest materials. 83 Terms of contract and conditions of travel Page 81 Terms of contract and conditions of travel This brochure was compiled by the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation on behalf of the service providers hotels, airlines, etc. listed therein. 01 Scope of these Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel These Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel govern the legal relationship between you and the service provider insofar as your contractual partner does not present terms and conditions at the time of booking. Unless expressly specified otherwise at the time of booking, your contract will be with the companies providing services, even if you place your booking through the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation. In such cases, the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation acts merely as an agent between you and the service provider; your contract is directly with the provider of the service booked. 02 Conclusion of contract and services provided Your contract with the service provider becomes legally binding when the booking office unconditionally confirms your booking. If the same booking office arranges other services and packages for you that are not booked from a publication of the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation, these Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel shall not apply. The services provided will be as specified in the booking confirmation and in the details provided of the service on offer. Unless stated otherwise in the product description, your activity will begin at the location specified in the contract. 03 Prices and terms of payment All prices are quoted in Swiss francs and are to be paid in Swiss francs. Unless otherwise agreed in your booking or in the booking confirmation, the price of your trip shall be payable in full upon booking. If the price is not paid in full by the date due, your contractual partner shall be entitled to withhold services, to withdraw from the contract and to demand the cancellation costs listed in paragraph 05. Note that if you book your trip through a different booking office such as a travel agent, this booking office may make additional charges for advice, reservations, etc. 04 Price and programme changes The service providers and the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation are entitled to change the details of services and prices before a contract is signed. You will be informed of this at the time of booking. After the contract has been signed, prices can be increased up to three weeks prior to the beginning of your trip if the transport or accommodation costs, the charges for certain services, or the exchange rate have increased. Changes to the programme and scope of services may also arise owing to unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances. Should any of the essential features of your trip change considerably and if you cannot be offered an appropriate alternative, you have the right to cancel your booking. In these circumstances, price increases of more than 10% count as a considerable change. Unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances may necessitate a change of programme even after your trip has commenced. Your service provider will endeavour to provide appropriate alternatives in such cases. The Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation will not refund any services not delivered and accepts no liability for programme changes. 05 Changes or cancellations requested by you If you wish to change your booking or to cancel your trip, you must notify the booking office directly. Any travel documents you have already received must be returned to the booking office at the same time. A service charge of CHF 60. per person, max. CHF 120. per order, will be levied for cancellations and changes (affecting names of travellers, dates, accommodation or additional services, etc.). If you cancel your trip or change your booking (name, date, accommodation, additional services, etc.) less than 31 days prior to departure, you will also be charged, in addition to any processing fee, for the following costs as a percentage of the total cost of your trip: 30 to 15 days before departure 30% of the package price 14 to 8 days before departure 50% of the package price 7 to 1 days before departure 80% of the package price on the day of departure and in the event of no-show 100% of the package price The critical date is that on which the booking office receives notice of your intentions; if that is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the next working day shall apply. 06 Late arrival or early departure of your own accord You are responsible for arriving on time. Should you arrive late, you cannot claim a refund for any services you have missed owing to your late arrival. Should you depart early, your expenses will not be refunded. 07 Early departure or exclusion occasioned by the service provider The service provider is entitled to end the service/trip prematurely in the event of unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances that would render fulfilment of contract impossible, considerably more difficult or dangerous for those taking part. If no alternative is possible, the service provider shall be exempted from its obligation to fulfil the contract. Your claim to a refund in such cases shall be limited to unjust enrichment. The service provider can exclude participants from the trip if their actions or omissions justify such a step. In such a case, the cost of the package shall still be due in full and there shall be no refund for services not received. Any claims for compensation are excluded. 08 Liability The Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation and the service providers accept no liability, to the extent provided for by law, for slight negligence on their own part or that of their agents. No liability is accepted for loss of, or damage to, valuables, cameras/camcorders etc., fur coats or other expensive items of clothing, mobile phones, credit cards, cash and other valuable objects or for unlawful use of the same. For packages, liability for anything other than personal injury shall be limited to twice the cost of the package. The limitations to liability specified in paragraphs 04 to 07 also apply. 09 Travel insurance Participants are strongly advised to take out travel insurance to provide cover for cancellation or early departure, incl. accident or sickness. 10 Applicable law and jurisdiction The contract between you and the service providers or the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation is governed exclusively by Swiss law. Exclusive place of jurisdiction for any disputes arising will be St. Moritz, Switzerland.

General terms of business: This catalogue has been compiled on behalf of the tourist service providers named within, in accordance with information supplied by them. Your contractual partner is specified in the relevant entry, and is responsible for the proper provision of any services booked. Many service providers operate their own general terms of business that define contractual relations with you and specify the liability of the provider. These general terms of business are binding for you when you make a booking. Prices and services described in this brochure may be changed at any time. You will be informed about any such changes at the time of making a booking. Outdoor activities: these activities may be cancelled or broken off at any time if weather conditions or other circumstances require. You may book services directly with the relevant provider or via Engadin St. Moritz. If you book an activity via Engadin St. Moritz, the latter is dealing purely as an intermediary between you and the service provider. Your contract is directly with the provider of the service booked. In case of disagreement or any question of liability, etc., you should refer directly to the relevant service provider. Engadin St. Moritz is not your contractual partner and accepts no responsibility for provision of the service booked. Only Swiss law is applicable. Any disputes arising hereunder will be settled before a competent court of law in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
