2 OPTIONAL TOUR DESCRIPTIONS Friday, October 6 MCCHORD FIELD TOUR McChord is now basically a tenant on Joint Base Lewis McChord, with all of the base support activities handled by the Army. The Wing consists only of the Operations and Maintenance Groups and a Medical Squadron. The visit would consist of a wing/base briefing, a tour of a C-17 aircraft (based on availability), and a visit to the McChord Air Museum and its Air Park. LE MAY AMERICA S CAR MUSEUM TOUR Located in downtown Tacoma, this sleek, imaginative building opened in 2012, contains about 350 cars many of which are a rotating portion of display vehicles from the collection of Harold Le May. His collection was recognized in 1997 by Guinness Book of World Records as the largest privately held automotive collection on earth. The Museum contains other thoughtful, engaging exhibits that cover fascinating facets of America s love affair with driving. Examples are the nostalgic exhibit on Route 66, the mother road, and the Legends of Motorsport: The NASCAR Story. Lunch on your own is available. Saturday, October 7 INDIVIDUAL TOURS OF SEATTLE To save you some money and to provide individual flexibility, we are recommending you use the Seattle Light Rail system for touring various downtown sites at your leisure. There are 2 stations in SeaTac, one just 2 blocks from the hotel. The trains run from 5AM to Midnight on Saturday and 1 hour earlier each way on Sunday. Locations available along the route are Seattle s Chinatown; the Sports Stadiums; Pioneer Square and its Underground Tour; the Westlake stop, which is 2 blocks from Pike Street Market and a block from the Monorail to Seattle Center; located at Seattle Center is the Space Needle, EMP Museum, Chihuly Garden and Glass and the Pacific Science Center. At the far end of the Light Rail route is the University of Washington. To access the Seattle Aquarium and Great Ferris Wheel, there is a 3 block walkway from Pike Street Market to the harbor area down below. There are several food options at all of the locations discussed above. Sunday, October 8 MUSEUM OF FLIGHT TOUR or VISIT SOUTHCENTER MALL We are providing bus transportation to each of these locations, depending on your individual interests. The Seattle Museum of Flight and the Tucson Pima Air & Space Museum are both vying for the recognition of being the largest Air & Space Museums not funded by the Federal Government. From the Red Barn, which showcases the history of Boeing to the Personal Courage Wing, which highlights the dramatic histories of WWI and WW II, the history within the museum is sure to please the liveliest of history buffs and beyond. Entrance to the museum includes a 1 hour docent led tour through the evolution of aviation by examining the aircraft of its large world-class collection, including the first Presidential Jet, the famous Blackbird, the only remaining Boeing 80A and Aerocar III. Additional opportunities include 4DX and Pilot i360 Simulator rides, and 3D Theater with varied films being shown. Lunch on your own will be available at both locations. The Mall is the largest in in the Seattle area, with a multitude of stores, restaurants and entertainment. Monday, October 9 MOUNT RAINIER TOUR for those willing to stay an extra day, we will offer a tour of the Mount Rainier National Park. Naturalist John Muir called the park area among the best and most luxuriant and extravagantly beautiful of all the alpine gardens he had beheld in all his mountain-top wanderings. I m still looking at the best way to use the various guide options for the trip, but the Park Visitor Centers do have guides available for arriving groups. Driver gratuities are included in the tour prices. Please plan to be at the bus boarding area at least ten minutes prior to the scheduled time. All trips require a minimum of thirty-five people, except for the Mt Rainier tour
