The last Russian emperor, Nicholas II, entertained the King of Siam in the Krysha Ballroom, while Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky and even the infamous Grigori Rasputin visited the hotel with friends. With its stunning stained-glass ceiling and sparkling chandeliers it quickly became the most fashionable venue in the city. Today, this period chamber has lost none of its lustre, and continues to dazzle both with its elegance and the sense of occasion it creates. Countless historic events have been reflected in its beautiful mirrors, including the famous Six Presidents dinner in The ballroom itself has an adjoining foyer and terrace, where a bar can be set up to welcome guests. While these light-flooded rooms high above the streets of St Petersburg are perfect for weddings, large conferences and banquets, the ballroom can also be fully darkened for audiovisual presentations.

GORKY ROOM Magnificent windows allow natural light to flood into the Gorky Room, the perfect place to host business meetings and receptions. This distinguished venue, with period touches including a decorative fireplace, takes its name from the meeting held at Belmond Grand Hotel Europe in 1931 between Maxim Gorky and George Bernard Shaw. TCHAIKOVSKY ROOM The largest space in the Conference Centre, this can serve as the main conference room with beautiful views over picturesque Arts Square and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Hall. The room features historic elements of decor, while its name recalls the day in 1877 when the great composer visited the hotel with his young wife. These period details are backed up by discreetly-integrated technology added during a recent renovation, including sockets for computer equipment and a screen for audiovisual presentations. The result is a venue that is distinctive, practical and redolent with character. Well-known personalities who have attended events in this room include Vladimir Putin, Gerhard Schroeder and Jacques Chirac, who held tripartite negotiations here. It is named after architect Fyodor Lidval, who helped to redesign the hotel s interiors between 1908 and The decor features a fine Lichtenthal grand piano, inlaid with flowers and birds. Its delightful balcony overlooks the Philharmonic Hall and in summer is decked with plants. Adjacent is the turn-of-the-century Museum Room. St Petersburg s celebrated restaurant can be transformed into your private ballroom, illuminated by the magnificent stained-glass window of Apollo in his chariot. As you step inside the ballroom s luminous, art nouveau interior, it is intriguing to picture one of its most infamous guests, Grigori Rasputin, being trailed around the decorative alcoves by a posse of secret agents.
