3 INVITATION MESSAGE ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (ASEAN IPA) Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association, I have the honour and privilege of welcoming all councilors, members and observers to the next Annual General Meeting and International Conference of our Association which will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 11 th to 13 th March, The timing is just right after the 1000 th anniversary of this city. ASEAN IPA AGM and council meetings have proved to be an excellent opportunity for professionals in ASEAN and elsewhere to participate and observe the discussions in the existing and future direction of intellectual property laws and practices in the ASEAN region. As always, the event will also provide an unequaled opportunity for the attendees to see old friends, meet new ones and learn something about the cultural heritage of the hosting venue. The theme of 2011 Conference will touch on the impact of IP protection on the decision making of investors, and IP owner s perception of the infringement of IPR in the ASEAN region and ways for improvement and cooperation in this regard. 8 OUT DOOR PROGRAM OPITIONAL HALFDAY HANOI TOUR ( ) Option 1 - A Look into the Spirit of Hanoi s Traditional Culture This tour program will provide a meaningful chance for participants to review the traditional culture of Vietnam, which may go back hundreds of years. Participants will first visit Ho Chi Minh s Mausoleum and One Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards they are invited to go to Temple of Literature founded in 1070 as a Confucian temple, and Quoc Tu Giam Imperial Academy, the first university of Vietnam. Only parts of the Van Mieu complex date back to the earliest period, although much of the architecture dates to the Ly ( ) and Tran ( ) Dynasties. After Van Mieu, participants will be given a chance to taste diverse traditional Vietnamese food. Option 2 - Into the World of Ceramic Creatures Bat Trang ceramics village, a 500-year-old village, is located about 10 km northeast of Hanoi on the left bank of the Red River. Throughout the ups and downs of history, Bat Trang village has confirmed the value of its products. The traditional craft of ceramic making in Bat Trang has survived all challenges and continued to develop, especially over the past decades, with thousand of kilns on fire around the clock. Many kilns in Bat Trang are now fuelled by gas, thus helping reduce environmental pollution and ensuring the quality of products. After Bat Trang, participants shall be visiting Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is a valuable centre for the exhibition and the preservation of cultural heritages of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. At the Museum, people shall have the chance not only to visit and entertain, but also to learn about these ethnic groups cultural diversity and uniqueness, as well as the traditional values throughout the country of Vietnam.

10 ACCOMODATION INFORMATION How to Book Accomodation If you want to stay at Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel, you can simply book the accomodation by completing the Registration Form attached to this brochure. The completed form shall be processed directly by the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel. If you want to stay at any of other hotels, please directly contact Thienha Travel Agency for appropriate reservation. Check-in / Check-out Hotel check-in time is usually 14.00pm Hotel check-out time is 12.00pm Change of Hotel Booking Any change in reservation must be notified directly with the hotel no later than 2 March Cancellation must be made in writing. Deposit All hotel bookings must be accompanied by a minimum payment of one night in order to secure reservation. Attendees must settle the balance of their account with the hotel upon check-out. Hotel Cancellation and Refund All cancellation must be sent to the Hotel in writing. All cancellation, amendment made before 15 February 2011 is free of charge. 16 16 VIETNAM GENERAL INFORMATION Getting Around Meter taxis and hired cars are easy to find in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi. If you plan an extended visit you might consider renting a bicycle or motorbike. Climate Vietnam has a tropical climate, which is characterized by lots of sunshine, high rainfall, humidity and two distinguished seasons in general: the cold and dry one from November to April and the other, hot and wet from May to October. Annual average temperatures range from 22ºC to 27ºC. But the weather usually varies from the north to the south, and between delta land and mountains. Currency The currency is Vietnamese Dong (VND). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the banks, exchange bureaus or hotel reception desks. Travelers' cheque and most of credit cards are accepted in the major cities. We recommend that you bring some cash with yourselves. Currency exchange rate: 1USD ~ VND. You can check the updated currency exchange rate at Food and Drinks There is a wide range of dishes in Vietnam, including the very popular nem (spring rolls) and pho (Vietnamese noodle in soup). Not all foods are spicy. Vegetarian foods, dietary dishes & western menus are also available at certain restaurants. Imported beers and alcohols are available in hotels, restaurants and shops. For drinking water, please use bottled water, which has an unbroken seal. You should not drink tap water without boiling it first.
