35 Gijón has a wide range of flats for rent and this is one of the best and most traditional forms of accommodation, especially for those that know the city. The average rent of an apartment is around 540/month. If you are a student looking for accommodation, in the Student Housing Information Centre (CIVE), we can help you find a place that will meet your needs. On the other hand, if you own a flat and you want to rent it, the Student Housing Information Centre can also provide a helping hand. This service is completely free of charge for students and owners. Likewise, for those people who own a flat and want to rent it, the CIVE has a database with more than 1,100 registers. 36 The Municipal Housing service of the Gijón City Council aims to facilitate access to housing for the citizens of Gijón, and especially for young people. Exceptionally, other citizens are also considered. 4 Municipal programmes 36

37 Young-Share Programme The aim of this programme is to facilitate young people (between 18 and 35) access to affordable housing by promoting flat-sharing among peers in suitable accommodation. The rent is 129 per month, including gas, electricity and communal expenses. Candidates may apply any time throughout the year. For further information: 37

38 CONVIVE plan: Intergenerational programme An alternative housing programme for young people (under 35) sharing a house with an elderly person (over 65) in exchange for some help, conversation or some company, as previously agreed. The maximum rent charged will not exceed 250 per month, of which the programme funds 50% with a limit of 100. Candidates may apply any time throughout the year. For further information: 38

39 Rental assistance Through the municipal programme Rental Assistance Payment, some specific beneficiaries get a percentage of their monthly rent paid. Additional assistance may also be provided to account for part of the expenses involved in signing the contract, such as deposit, first month s rent, etc. The priority groups of this programme are young people between 18 and 35 years of age. Rentals may not exceed 450/month. The maximum period of subsidy is six years. Candidates may apply any time throughout the year. For further information: 39

41 EPI Gijón has a good bus network. Several bus lines have stops connections with the campus. Lines 2, 4 and 18 drop you in the main campus area. Also line 1 can be used to get to the Aulario Norte Building It is one of the best ways to get to the Campus 41

42 Red lines: bike lanes. Violet lines: shared with pedestrians. Blue lines: recommended routes (with motor vehicles). Orange lines: shared with public transportation. EPI (AsturiesConBici) Far fewer people in Spain cycle to the university compared to other European countries. However, the increasing number of bike lanes in the city is contributing to a growth in the use of bikes as a means of transport Recommended routes 42
