3 The main tour operators predict a historic year for Fuerteventura in 2014 The Fuerteventura Tourist Board has published the Marketing Plan for 2014 including the external promotional strategies and the analysis of the markets made by the promoters in Berlin, Paris, Warsaw, London and Milan. Mario Cabrera, the president of the Cabildo and, Blas Acosta, the Tourism Minister, highlighted the work these promoters do and their usefulness as they are the representatives of Fuerteventura for the tourism industry in these important markets. The analysis of the markets and the slots that have been hired by the airlines for 2014, make us think that the projected growth of tourist arrivals in Fuerteventura in 2014 will be very important. Germany could grow between 25-35% in 2014 (almost 700,000 tourists from Germany visited Fuerteventura in 2013 but we do not know the final number yet); the United Kingdom could grow between 25-30% (422,000 tourists from the United Kingdom visited Fuerteventura in 2013) and Italy could grow between 55-68% (74,000 tourists from Italy visited Fuerteventura in 2013). France and Poland are two important markets for Fuerteventura and will grow as well although we do not have the numbers yet. Austria would grow between 2-5%, Denmark would grow between 5-10%, Finland would grow between 50-60%, Holland would grow between 35-50%, Norway would not change, Sweden would grow between 20-25% and the Czech Republic would grow between 20-25%. Only three markets would not grow in The Spanish market would decrease by 5%, Belgium would decrease by 3-5% and Ireland would decrease by 2 4%. In 2012, 2,1 million tourists visited Fuerteventura, in 2013 we think that over 2,2 million tourists visited Fuerteventura (we do not know the final number yet) and the projected growth for 2014 is that more tourists will come to Fuerteventura. Co-marketing, the key aspect The Tourist Board has been working hard to make co-marketing agreements with the most important tour operators and airlines. Through this agreement, the tour operator and the Tourist Board pay half of the total amount to promote the island in the market. This way, the tour operator has a keen interest in selling the destination and it works better than other types of agreements. The Marketing Plan for 2014 states that there has been a return on investment in the markets where we have made co-marketing campaigns in the last two years. The instability in Egypt will send tourists to the Canaries and Fuerteventura but the number will be fewer than in The Arab spring diverted many holiday packages to the archipelago in 2011.

4 The projected growth for 2014 is the result of the work made by the sector and the external promotion made by the Tourist Board. The main objective is to build tourists loyalty. Some of the goals for the Fuerteventura Tourist Board are: to collaborate with Gran Canaria and Lanzarote to promote the trips between these islands; to implement the Integrated Quality System for tourist destinations (SICTED) and to cooperate with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) to create the Chair of Tourism in Fuerteventura. The Fuerteventura Tourist Board has increased the promotion of the island in Germany as the German market will grow 35% in Westin Hotel in Leipzig: 180 agents attended the event. This promotion was done by our Majorero promoter in Berlin thanks to the co-marketing agreement we have with FTI Deutschland and in collaboration with Promotur Canarias. Marriot München Hotel: 180 agents chosen by FTI attended the event and wanted to know about the range of sports on offer in Fuerteventura. This event was organized in collaboration with Promotur Canarias. Le Meridien Hotel in Stuttgart: 170 travel agents chosen by FTI attended the event. Sheraton Pelikan Hotel in Hannover: 120 travel agents chosen by FTI Deutschland attended the event. Le Royal Meridien Hotel: 210 travel agents invited by FTI attended the event. This port and industrial city from the north of Germany is the third city that sends more tourists to Fuerteventura (the first one is Dusseldorf and the second one is Frankfurt). That is why the Fuerteventura Tourist Board is really interested in building tourists loyalty. Steigenberger Airport Hotel: 230 travel agents attended the event. They mainly wanted to know about the Navigation, Sun and Beaches, Ecotourism, in Family and Active life in Fuerteventura. This event was organized in collaboration with Promotur Canarias. Roadshow in collaboration with DER Fuerteventura organized a Roadshow in collaboration with DER Touristik (we have a co-marketing agreement with them) in Nuremberg, Bayreuth (Bavaria) and Erfurt (Thuringia). Our promoter in Berlin explained the characteristics of the island and what it has to offer to the agents, and gave them leaflets and maps.

Fam Trip Itaka 51 Itaka agents from Russia, Bielorrusia, Ukraine and Lithuania have visited Fuerteventura for a week in collaboration with Barceló Hotels, Atlantis Hotels and R2 Hotels.

They have visited some of the most representative places of the island. They went on a jeep safari tour departing from R2 Rio Calma Hotel to the ravine of Los Canarios and enjoyed the amazing views of Cofete Beach. They made a stop to see a cactus which is an endemic species of Jandía and understood how important it is. They also visited the viewpoint of Cofete, where they took the attached photo. The story of the Villa Winter was explained to them. Then, they went to Punta Pesebre to enjoy its wonderful views and the smallest lighthouse in Europe. They tried our Majorero cheese and potatoes traditionally cooked in the lighthouse situated in Punta de Jandía. Water sports and activities like the ones done in Antigua (Barceló and Elba Hotels, golf course, mill) were enjoyed by them as well. The agents know the island more deeply now and they will be able to sell our destination much better. The tourism sector of Germany reinforces its confidence for Fuerteventura Alltours is a tour operator that works with the Fuerteventura Tourist Board and is really interested in organising a fam trip with 200 travel agents, directors of travel agencies and journalists. The Minister of Tourism, Blas Acosta, explains that the co-marketing agreements we sign with the main tour operators and airlines help us to promote our island. In the near future, they will choose Fuerteventura for holidaying. Last November, their first flight from Dusseldorf landed in Fuerteventura. The airplane had our logo showing its compromise with this new route and Fuerteventura. The Tourist Board and the airport made a baptism of the flight, gave promotional gifts and an official reception including a band of street musicians. The passengers also enjoyed it and even danced. The crew and the representatives of the tour operator also attended this event.

World Travel Market (WTM) brought good news for Fuerteventura Thalasso nº1, a French tour operator, announced that eight new routes will be introduced between Fuerteventura and France in 2014.

EasyJet has announced that its sales for this winter from Bristol have increased by 3 per cent; from Liverpool have increased by 17 per cent; from Basel have increased by 66 per cent and from London Gatwick have increased by 71 percent. Thomas Cook, which is another major international tour operator, thinks it will grow this winter at least 3 per cent and next summer it will grow 5 per cent. For the first time, Jet2 offers connections from April 2014 to Fuerteventura from Manchester (twice a week), Leeds (twice a week), East Midlands (once a week) and Glasgow (once a week). Lille is a city with a population of 225,000 but its metropolitan area is the fourth most important in France with a population of 1,100,000 and it is very close to the Belgian border (it is just 107 km away from Brussels). These facts make Fuerteventura a great destination. 8 NEWS Ridley Scott and Exodus in Fuerteventura The filming of this movie for the 20th Century Fox will be done in Fuerteventura until January, 12. It will invest 7 million euros employing almost thousand people (extras and professionals) and booking about 30,000 rooms in Antigua and Pájara. High-level actors will work for this blockbuster. Christian Bale, who will play the role of Moses, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and John Turturro. The film is about the journey of Moses through the desert to save the Jews from the Egyptians. The headquarters is situated in the old tourist hotel. The president of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, said that "the film gives us the opportunity to show the potential of Fuerteventura as a natural setting for other projects; it would be impossible for us to pay the external promotion this film will do." Blas Acosta explained that "we are proud of working together on this project to create jobs and wealth for Fuerteventura, we have been able to forget political ideologies and the municipalities and the Cabildo have worked together to welcome 'Exodus' in Fuerteventura. " The head of Production and Director of Volcano Films, Sebastián Álvarez, highlighted "the support" of the administrations of the island and said that "almost thousand people will be employed apart from 400 extras. The National Statistics Institute (INE) has published the results of the National Tourism Situation corresponding to October 2013 and highlighted the fact that Fuerteventura is the national tourist place where the average length of stay was the highest (8.42 days) and Pájara is the national municipality where the average length of stay was the highest (8.95 days). Sustainable City Award 2013 Puerto del Rosario s City Hall won the Sustainable City Award 2013 in the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, thanks to the activities it has developed for reducing energy consumption and increasing solar panels installations.
