The RNZN is chartering general purpose boats for use as liberty and stores boats during the Review, and one of these will be available to take veteran s out to follow the Reviewing Ship with the Governor General embarked (HMNZS OTAGO) during the Review proper. This will be free of charge to former naval men and women of all ranks, and it is hoped to accommodate up to 90. A certain level of mobility will be necessary although everything possible will be done to ensure the comfort and safety of our veterans. Alcohol will not be served aboard this vessel (or any vessel operating under the aegis of the Navy). Exact details of timings and how to apply for a place will be promulgated by all possible means in due course. In addition to the opportunity that the RNZN will provide, the Old Salts Association has secured the tug William C Daldy for use during these celebrations, including a trip in the wake of the Reviewing Ship during the Naval Review by the Governor General. Use the booking form overleaf to reserve your places for these sailings and functions onboard. (All departure times are subject to change.) The question was asked: whether the Old Salts are running a ballot system for any of the sailings, especially the International Naval Review day on 19 November. The Old Salts committee has decided that it will be first up best dressed for places aboard the William C. Daldy. The only proviso is that for the Naval Review, preference will be given to ex serving members. If by chance the sailing is undersubscribed places will be opened to partners. Otherwise you must have served with the RNZN or RNZNVR. The William C Daldy is fully licensed, and the bar will be open for all sailings except the Naval Review proper. We would expect that up spirits is likely to be called on more than one occasion. If you do partake, please ensure that you have a dedicated driver or guide to get you back to your accommodation. THE WILLIAM C. DALDY PROGRAMME (All departure times are subject to change.) Thursday 17 November International Fleet arrives. The William C. Daldy will be at sea to welcome the visiting ships Approximately 4.5 hours at sea, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Old Salts and partners. Boarding time: 1000 $75.00 per head including lunch. Partners welcome. Friday 18 November ExWrens Cocktail Party Complimentary Orange Juice or Sparkling Wine served on arrival. Finger food. Partners welcome. $55.00 per head. Saturday 19 November International Naval Review. Boarding time Approximately 4 hours, lunch provided $85.00 per head. Preference will be given to ex Naval men and women who have served in the RNZN/RNZNVR/ WRNZNS. Sunday 20 November 3 x 2 hour cruises around the ships. This event is open to families and friends. Costs: Adult $20.00, children $10.00 or Family $50.00 (2 adults and 2 children). Tuesday 22 November Fleet departures. Boarding at 1000, departing hour cruise with a BBQ provided. $65.00 per head. Note: To participate in these sailings, Veterans will need to be reasonably active as unfortunately the William C Daldy, as a heritage vessel, is not suitable for persons with wheelchairs or walkers. Walking sticks are OK, but remember when you use one hand for the stick the other is required for the ship. Seriously, the old tug is a very stable platform and is an experience in itself, to just share a part of the by-gone-era of steam. Ladies are advised to wear flat OUR AIMS: Reinforce our reputation with the people of NZ Enhance our relationships with potential UN coalition partner navies Enhance the retention of our own people Support recruiting shoes and trousers. All guests will have the freedom of the ship, to visit the bridge, engine room and boiler room.
