2 1 Five 14,000-TEU Containerships Series Completion of the MILLAU BRIDGE and MANCHESTER BRIDGE Millau Bridge Containerships Strategic Group The construction of the 14,000-TEU containership No. 1, the largest containership in terms of scale ever built in Japan, was completed on the beautiful day of March 31 at Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Since the collapse of Lehman Brothers, circumstances have remained extremely difficult for the containership business, and each company has worked to reduce costs by making containerships larger and more economical. Faced with this environment, K Line has decided to manage ten new super larger-scale ships equipped with cutting edge energy saving technologies. The Millau Bridge is the first ship of this large-scale project. Manchester Bridge Following the completion of the first ship in March, the construction of the second ship in the M series, the Manchester Bridge, was safely completed. Just as with the first ship, the owner of this ship is SHOEI KISEN KAISHA, LTD., and ceremony was held to christen the ship and celebrate its completion.

3 2 The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Honorary Advisor Shintani, with the name being clearly announced by Senior Managing Executive Officer Suzuki, while the guy rope was cut by the daughter of Managing Executive Officer Arai. Conclusion of Long-Term Time Charter Contract for Newly Built LNG Ship for Mitsui & Co., Ltd. LNG Group Working through Trinity LNG Transport S.A., which is jointly invested in by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Mitsui ) and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Imabari Shipbuilding ), K Line concluded a long-term time charter contract with Mitsui on May 11, Under this contract, K Line will introduce one newly built 178,000 m3 (membrane tank) type LNG carrier for use in the Cameron LNG Project in the United States (Louisiana) that is proceeded by Mitsui. This carrier is expected to be built at Saijo Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding and completed in K Line LNG Shipping (UK) Limited is scheduled to be contracted to handle the carrier management operations.

4 3 Completion of CORONA TRITON, an 88,000-ton Coal Carrier Thermal Coal, Woodchip and Pulp Group On April 7, the construction of CORONA TRITON, an 88,000-ton coal carrier, was completed at the Marugame Headquarters of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This new carrier joins the K Line s mainstay CORONA series fleet. The naming and delivery ceremony was conducted in the presence of General Manager Minakami of Hokuriku Electric Power Company and his wife, Executive Vice President Kurokawa of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and many other related parties. After the carrier was christened by General Manager Minakami, his wife Kaori beautifully cut the guy rope, signifying the safe completion of the carrier. After being blessed by many related parties, the carrier set out on her maiden voyage to Newcastle, a coal port in Australia.

5 4 Conclusion of Contract to Transport Railway Cars for Intercity Express Railways in the United Kingdom Car Carrier Business Group K Line concluded a maritime transportation contract to carry the railway cars for Intercity Express Railways in the United Kingdom, which are manufactured at the Kasado Works of Hitachi, Ltd. On Wednesday, May 20, Hitachi Transport System, Ltd. and VANTEC HTS FORWARDING, LTD. were invited to K Line to take part in the ceremony to sign the transportation contract. Because this is the first full-scale train transportation contract for K Line, this article will provide an overview of the contract and its significance. The railway cars are the cars delivered by Hitachi, Ltd. for use in the Intercity Express Programme run by the Department for Transport in the United Kingdom. Under the program, it has been decided that a total of 866 cars (122 trains) will be delivered, with the shipment of 76 completed cars beginning in January The remaining 790 cars (110 trains) will be manufactured as knockdown cars, after which they will be transported to the United Kingdom and made into finished cars at the railway cars plant in Newton Aycliffe, Durham in the United Kingdom that Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd. is currently constructing. K Line is responsible for transporting the majority of the knockdown cars. It will transport the cars on a regular basis for several years from Tokuyamakudamatsu Port, a port near the Kasado Works of Hitachi, Ltd., to Trees Port, a port located close to the new plant in the United Kingdom. This contract represents the first time a Japanese shipping company has participated in a large-scale railway car transportation project involving the use of car carriers. The memorable first shipment of railway cars will be carried out at Tokuyamakudamatsu Port on July 21, which is shortly after the completion of the Hawaiian Highway. It will mark the start of a fresh voyage that will provide the company with a number of new experiences, such as using a new type of carrier to transport cars and making the first port call with a large-scale carrier. In the nice autumn season in this beautiful country, South America Agencies Meeting was organized, for which all containership agencies in Latin America plus guests from Asia (Tokyo Containership Business Group and K Line Container Asia Division in Singapore) were invited. In the last decade, Latin American countries have experienced good times & bad times. Latin American countries used to be one of the brightest emerging markets in the world, but in the last couple of years such incredible speed of economic growth has been slowing down due to various negative components such as financial instability, political confusion, lower price of natural resources, etc. Although difficult business environment should continue for a while, we have to (1) work hard to be stronger ( Fortaleza ), (2) let KKK Tokyo have confidence ( Confianza ) that we are competitive and (3) keep having hope ( Esperanza ) for our future business expansion those key words and spirits were confirmed through the official meeting and the post meeting function successfully with the tons of consumption of wine!
