2 Page 2 Newsletter Trondheim CRUISE COORDINATOR TO WORK 100% IN 2018 Cruise coordinator works 100% in 2018 In 2017 the cruise coordinator represented Trondheim Port Authority and destination at both Seatrade Global and Europe. Due to an extreme increase in cruise calls in 2018 (88 calls) Trondheim Port Authority decided to employ Maria Kühnl as cruise coordinator in a 100% position from The formerly split position 50% Port Authority and 50% Visit Trondheim, will be merged. The cruise coordinator will continue to represent both port and destination. In 2018 the cruise coordinator will be present at the Seatrade Global - Cruise Norway stand. Maria Kühnl Photo: Visit Trondheim Meraviglia calling 17th of May and AidaVita staying over night 4 times in th OF MAY AND OVER NIGHT CALLS In 2018 we will have the pleasure of celebrating the Norwegian National Day together with the guests of Meraviglia. It will be very special for both the 4500 guests and us! Another lovely surprise is to have AidaVita staying in Trondheim over night 4 times next year. Their guests will have the chance to discover Trondheim and Trøndelag for 25 hours. The World will also be calling Trondheim for more than 24h next summer. 12 off-season calls are expected in 2018, that is 4 more than in Meraviglia Photo: MSC Cruises TURNAROUND OF ZENITH IN turnarounds with Zenith in 2018 In 2018 we welcome back Pullmantur with an all time high with 7 turnarounds of Zenith. Clarion Hotel & Congress at Brattøra will offer their facilities for the check-in area again on 4 of the 7 calls. vation of the land strip at Trondheim Airport Værnes. In 2017 the turnarounds had to be moved to Bergen due to the reno- Monarch leaving Trondheim
3 Page 3 Newsletter Trondheim CRUISE EXCURSIONS IN TRONDHEIM 13 new excursions this year This year we added yet another 13 new tours to the existing program. We focused on creating more offseason as well as culinary tour offers. The food hall unfortunately closed this February. But since 25% of the Norwegian produce comes from Trøndelag, we found replacements. We are happy to be able to offer you to visit the locals of Trondheim either at home or on a farm! We have also worked on possibilities for you to discover Trondheim by night! Next year we will work with more hands-on tours as well as focusing on other parts of the region like Frøya. Have you not received the cruise manual? kuehnl@trondheimhavn.no Free maps & 7% up in shorex sales INFORMATION IS CRUCIAL As previously we will have locals in traditional costume welcoming the guests upon arrival handing out free city maps the first couple of hours. Like last year, an average of 83% of the guests left the ship to discover the city within the first 3 hours of berth. Shore excursions sales went up by 7 percent from last year. We will continue to send a mail to the cruise agents two days prior to every call to inform the ship about opening hours and What s on in Trondheim during the call. FAMTRIP BY CRUISE NORWAY Score of 3.8 on port infrastructure as well as attractions This year Trondheim participated in the Famtrip organized by Cruise Norway. We had 11 representatives of 10 cruise lines visiting our city as the start of their trip down south to Ålesund. really happy about the 4.8 for our local guides. In average we got a score of 3.8 out of 5 on port infrastructure, as well as on the attractions. We were Famtrip Photo: Marit Karlsen
4 Page 4 Newsletter Trondheim MARKET SQUARE PARTLY CLOSED Market square partly closed The market square in Trondheim will undergo major reconstruction in the next two years. The work will not influence the shore excursions routes by bus, but probably a little the walking tours trough the city centre. However, the landmark can not be visited as usually. Bigger happenings like the farmers market, the food festival, Martnan and the Christmas market have to be moved. Photo: Jan Ove Iversen overpari.no trondelag.com TRONDHEIM S BIGGEST ANNUAL EVENT The St. Olav Festival will take place as every year with the following dates: usually during the last 3 days. Exhibitors present beautiful stalls with the best of what Trøndelag region has to offer There is a Medieval Fair at the Archbishop s Palace where one can participate in exciting historic activities such as stone-carving, and explore the old cathedral.. The local food and brewery festival in Trondheim is also arranged during the Olav Festival Photo: Trøndelag Fotobank 10% discount in the city centre TRONDHEIM LOVES TOURISTS The stores in Trondheim s city centre will offer 10% discount for all cruise tourists and crew members again in 2018! The tourist information is open everyday including Sundays (in summer). You may find a selection of souvenirs at Fjordbuda on top of the bridge to the city centre. While Pirbadet is reconstructing it offers tickets to the cruise guests with discount.
5 Newsletter Trondheim Page 5 TRONDHEIM - A PORT IN DEVELOPMENT Last year Trondheim Port Authority enlarged the bus parking ground within the ISPS area from 10 to 16 places. Due to the increase in both calls and excursions sold Trondheim Port Authority is enlarging even further to 20 places and a round about at the end. Additionally a new bollard (200 t) is to be built at 240m west of the cruise quay. Works are to be completed by August Furthermore we are discussing the option of investing in mooring dolphins at the cruise quay. In 2017 the indoor waterpark Pirbadet built an extension which restricted the space within the ISPS area. This project is to be completed by March Even larger bus parking and 200 t bollard to be build by 2018 TERMS, CONDITIONS AND PRICES 2018 In 2018 we will introduce discounts on harbour dues for ships registered in ESI.
