1 July/August 2011 Volume 46 Number 3 Organized 1966 Club located at the Marina, Treasure Island in the center of San Francisco Bay Commodores Report Matt Farnsworth he Recreation Boater s of California (RBOC) had a T call-to-arms to oppose SB623, which went to committee the end of May and may be voted on by the end of June. This bill will prohibit the sale of copper bottom paint across the state for recreation boats by 2015 (commercial and military vessels will be exempt); usage will be prohibited by RBOC is also lobbying against SB 595 bill, which would extend authority to the State Lands Commission to remove abandoned vessels, which is already a mandate of the Dept. of Boating and Waterways. We would like to take a shot at winning the Gale Force Wind trophy for supporting RBOC. Please let me know if you would like to make a special donation. TIDA is making progress on the redevelopment plans. The city of San Francisco held a hearing June 14 and the Navy is recommending Alternative 2b for Site 27 (the area east of the marina). This would only remove soil on the edge of the waterfront, and cover the bottom with gravel and not providing any dredging in the waterway. The public comment period ends July 2. Summer has taken its time getting here; and the wet spring led to a few cruise-in cancellations. At least there were a few good weekends, and June is getting a bit warmer; hopefully we ll have clear skies for the 4 th of July Chili Cook-off. We had a great time in YRA season opener, and had several entries in the race. I hope to join the Westpoint Regatta on July 16 (TIYC to SYC any other entries?) For August, we re looking forward to the Delta cruise and the International Dinner. Followed in September by the Castaway Weekend Rib feed, and Dragon Boat/Pig Feed on Sept. 17. The 2011 cruising burgees are available for member purchase. Please join me in welcoming our new members: Elena and David Esser, Barb and Randy Himes, Helene and Anthony Cirillo, Carol and Steve Lane.
